I have had a number of haircuts at the Hair Shop and had good luck when I did not ask for anything specific, but fair warning: as far as women's cuts go, they do one cut really well and that's it. If you want something other than conservative Washingtonian bob, go elsewhere. The last cut I had there I made the mistake of asking for something slightly (only slightly!) different and the result was atrocious. My friends called it the "Leather Tuscadero meets David Bowie (circa 1983)." I went to another salon for a clean up job and the stylist there said, "There are holes where there should be hair. This is going to take a year to grow out."

Since the Hair Shop is convenient to the K Street corridor and the price used to be quite reasonable for women's cuts, it was worth the occasional visit. However at nearly $60 a cut now, I'd have done much better (and saved myself some serious grief) by going to a real salon.

The men I've seen going in and out have appeared to be satisfied with a traditional barbershop kind of cut. They seem to do a good job with those.
