Corruption is the Birthright of Indians, What is happening in Indian Embassy -Washington is happening in Indian Embassies all over the world. The policy of Indian Govt. is anti NRI. Therefore NRI's should never expect anything good from any of the Govt. offices of India.

I don??t know how many of you have seen the ??office office?? TV serial but I felt that Mr. Musaddi lal was way luckier than I was.

My passport was stolen in March; it took 4 months for them to give me a new passport. (The usual process should take 1 week)The reason - my information is not verified by police in my home town. Surprisingly I was not considered a security threat in 2007 when they issued me a passport. Suddenly my police verification became critical after 4 years.

In fact they never gave me a reason why the process is delayed; I had to use some contacts in India passport office to find out the reason. Even after that I was acting as a mediator between embassy and India passport office for clearing my name. The shameless people at embassy were asking me to mail India office to get clearance, send fax at particular number, send email at some particular address. Everytime my relatives had to go to office to do that. They couldn??t do it themselves because they are technologically challenged people and didn??t know how to do it.
India office sent my clearance 5 times and embassy denied they received it. They kept lying and never bothered to check. Finally I had to contact a big guy at embassy who confirmed they have received clearance. My passport was ready after 4 months. I had given them a prepaid envelope to mail me the passport at home address. They asked me to come and collect it 400 miles away in Washington. At the embassy they gave me the envelope with my passport.

They are worlds most rude ba*tards..who don??t give a f*ck about other Indians?.Oh and I would love to see someone spank that bit*h at the counter ?

I was searching in insider pages for ZERO star(no star), but I am disappointed and regret that I give one star to the indian emabassy in washington DC. India achieved a lot . This is what I heard now a days. But thats not true. If you setpped into this embassy you should be wrong about that. This is just a model of how our governmnet works(either at state or at center or at any gov employee level). No respect, No answer, no mercy nothing.

I went to collect to my passport renewal at this embassy. I lost my token(a token given by them to collect passport), and I said the same to them.

This is the how conversation went:
at first she refused to talk and finally the following.

embassy guy:How could you lost your token?

I said people do sometimes, and please check my state driving licens id, and application was mine. So please check all the information.

embassy guy:please tell me your passport number

and I said the number and she pulled the information and she said passport was ready.

embassy guy:please write your name and phone number we would give a call after some days and collect the passport.

and i said, i drove two hours and came here, it would be difficult to come again, so please hand over my passport to me.

embassy guy:sir we can't help you, its our rule. We can't give the passport with out token.

And I said, I have my driving license you can check with that if you need my idnetity.

Embassy guy:Thats not with the identity, I had to search in bunch of passports where if your passport was.

Like in drama, a super(ior) officer entered.
And he also argued with me.

He said, they won't hand over the passports without token.

You know what he said at last:

Please make affidavit that I lost my token(Seriously). Please out from here.

I also argued with them where he metioned in the website about affidavit incase anybody lost token. He said that was not there, but it was the rule.

Guys can you beleive this?Where in the world that you make affidavit for loosing the token(a small piece of paper).

Unfortunately these are the guys who talk about corruption, politics in daily life..(they never see their ass back).

How could we complain and fire all these employees of this Washington DC embassy! From the top onwards.
Could we all write to the Prime Minister of India to read these reviews and make up their minds to do something about this Embassy!

I completely agree with all the points above. They are presenting the nation in different part of the world. They should be mindful about it. They should set example. But ironically, they have the worst service i have ever seen on the face of the earth. Inspite of this pethatic service, sadly they have not attempted to improve/work for the better. Employees there are either transfered from india by sheer luck or they are all spouse , who would not have a visa to work elsewhere. So we should understand how it would be to deal with

I agree for 100% about the service at the Indian ambassey's.
Never wrote about this, but now I have to do it.
I love India so much, so I have to go through this hell everytime.
My nationality is Dutch, and in the Netherlands I don't even try to get it, they are even worser than in Bangkok, Nepal, Sri-lanka, Cambodia etc.
These people are so powerminded, that everywhere I go, I see people crying at the ambassey's, because they are treated like dogs..t.
They change the rules without any announcement, they refuge giving visa's without telling you the reason, and then they even charge you for it, India wants more tourists, but it's getting less, and it's a joke if you see how many tourists visit India per year compare with the amount that visits Thailand for example.
They are to corrupt and have individual power to decide for you, if one person doesn't like you....forget your trip! pffffff......

I am one of those millions who suffered at Indian Embassy in DC. The website is useless. Visa fees is located under different pages, then postal charges are somewhere else. To get 1 info you wud have to look and read the entire site. you cant email them, coz they dont provide you with that option. there are 10 phone number and a fax number but no one answers the call, fax is always busy and if you are lucky to have your fax go thru NO one will respond to your question. FAQ's section is the worse to read. PLEASE DO NOT EVER SEND YOUR PASSPORT IN MAIL TO THEM. weather you send by priority or express, you will simply waste your time and money because they will lose your passport. I had send my passport by priority mail, I got a confirmation letter that it was received, by so and so person at so and so date/time. when I drove 6 hrs to ask these dumb ass why they never send my passpoirt + visa, all they did was send me to 2 different offices and finally said "we never received your passport" I tried to show them my confirmation letter from USPS but they dont even want to look at it. these people are so rude, worse customer service I have ever seen in US. what is even worse is that we have no option but to take their crap as we dont have anywhere else to go nor anyone to complain to. I have emailed many authorities but none of them have email me or paid any attention. Its sad that we live in a country where we are treated fair by americans but NOT by our own people.
If you are heading to DC at the Embassy be prepared to experience the worse customer service you would ever see. you may go with all the paperworks, forms, but I gaurantee you that they are going to say "we cant process your passport, visa because so and so is missing" if you ask where can I find the form, they will say LOOK ONLINE, ITS THERE. .....I wish I had the money and time to sue these worthless people who runs the Embassy

I went to this place to renew the passport. My experience:......a worst place on earth !!
I also went to the embassies of different countries to get visa (Japan, chinese, German, Australia....) but the service and response I received from our embassy was the worst.. The woman employee in the embassy was rude and she hasn't learned how to treat the fellow citizen. It's a shame... Indian govt. should take strict action on this.

If you're need of services from the Indian Embassy in Washington, I truly feel sorry for you. I can't even begin to describe how awful the embassy's customer service is.

If you go there as a regular citizen in need of the embassy's services, expect to lose a lot of time and gain a lot of gray hairs in the process. On all three trips I made to the embassy, I dealt with the same woman working behind the counter. She was downright rude and hostile to every single customer she "helped." She would give curt replies to questions, expect people to magically understand the intricacies of bureaucratic red tape, and treat them with utter contempt when they made simple mistakes stemming from their lack of such understanding. Like me, people would find themselves needing to come back to the embassy multiple times to fulfill what should have been simple requests, simply because the embassy was unduly harsh in its adherence to rules of red tape while at the same time refusing to make these rules clear so that people could actually adhere to them. It wasn't just me; I heard many a person walking away from the counter muttering unmentionable words about how rudely they were treated by this one woman.

However, for a number of reasons I am convinced that the embassy's mismanagement and poor service go beyond this one lady working at the counter. Not least of which is that if it didn't, they would have fired her by now. For example: on occasion, the embassy will randomly close down without any notice whatsoever besides a sign on their front door, leaving any person who made the trip to D.C. seeking embassy services SOL. "Well why not call them on the phone before leaving home to see if they're open?" you ask. Fact is, they barely ever answer their phones even when they are open, leaving you no way of ever knowing whether an answering machine means they're really closed or just too lazy to answer the phones. It's extremely frustrating to waste time traveling all the way to the embassy only to find out they are closed.

Unfortunately, with something like the Indian Embassy, there's really no way to "take your business elsewhere" in order to impel them to improve. I wish I knew what to say....
