One of my favorite restaurants in Cleveland this tiny fine dining place is pricey but worth it. Don't just stick to the Italian items, their Filet Mignon is the best I've ever had.

Recent transplants from New York, with little to no hope of finding a good neighborhood Italian joint, we were blessed to luck on Valerio's early on. Long story short: everything here is pretty good to excellent. To start, their mozzarella & tomato w/basil is strightforward and sublime. For pasta, their veal tortellini is exquisite. For an entree, their lamb chops, Florentine steak, beef filet and Branzino are all phenomenal. For desert, go with the tiramisu, unlike any you've ever had before. Cocktails are strong and well made and wines are moderately priced. It isn't fancy, but if you order right, you will return again and again.

This is the 1st time I went for dinner to Little Italy. Valerio's restaurant is located conveniently on Mayfield Road near parking areas. The place seemed nice and we went in. The menu offered several dishes for ~$15, and more choices for about $20-25. We ordered 2 entrees for 16, and that's probably why they were not tasty. One dish had almost no flavor, the other was bitter. Both of them seemed to be not completely cooked. I really should've asked them to bring us something else, but decided not to wait another 15 minutes while they cook. The service was ok, but other waiters had a distractingly loud conversation too close to where we were sitting.
A bad first experience. I will stick to spagetti next time I'm in an Italian place.

Pros: nice place, convenient location

Cons: the lower priced entrees seem to be terribe

While I don't find the main dishes exceptional or worth the price, this small restaurant has good food, especially pasta. The service is not great, perhaps because there is more demand than the restaurant could fit. After easily spending a hundred for two (pasta with no main course, one glass of wine for one of us), we found on the bill to be a dollar more than the listed price on the menu, on each of the items we ordered, from the glass of wine, to the appetizer, to the pasta dishes and dessert. We paid the bill as we weren't sure. But confirmed our suspecion when we checked with the menus at the door.

While I know going to a restaurant and getting poor food may be thought of as being taken. It's accepted as a risk of being adventuresome. Getting over charged on each and every item on the menu is my first and probably qualify as true fraud. I don't know what to think of this activity when it's done so blatantly. If they want to make more money, up the prices... at least their pasta is worth it. If they want to overcharge me, add it up wrong or something. I never check how it adds up, unless it's 50 dollars out of ballpark. But for God's sakes, don't be altering the prices on the bill cause it just insults your customers and make them want to write it up on Citysearch.

Pros: Good pasta

Cons: Check your bills against the menu price. Don't get overcharged.

Went to Valerio's last Sunday night and the food was excellent. But I have not had as bad an experience with the service. They had such a poor attitude like they didn't want us to be there. There are so many good restaurants in Cleveland that give excellent service that I for sure will never go back.

Usually when dining in Little Italy, I head straight to Mama Santa's for the best pizza outside of my kitchen. But on a Sunday, where to go? I can't say enough good things about Valerio's. Its intimate atmosphere enhances a romantic evening out. After asking my date and me a few questions, our waiter determined our taste in wine and knowledgably recommended the perfect cab/sangiovese blend (Carpineto- Dogajolo-- he even wrote down the name for us). The soup of the day, the filet, everything was exquisite. We hated being under a time constraint, and our hospitable waiter seemed sorry to let us go. Because it felt so tragic to leave without another glass of wine, a cup of coffee and dessert, we've made another date to eat at Valerio's.
