.

I shop at this location for more than 85% of my families grocery needs. I'm in the store 2-3 times weekly purchasing their over priced merchandise and for one error of judgement on my part, I was publicly humiliated and threatened with jail time.
The hot food bar was closed and one pan of fried cat-fish remained for people to serve themselves. I decided to get one piece of fish to snack on while walking the store to do the remainder of my shopping. When I had reached the cashier, I was informed that I should have first brought the fish to be weighed and paid for it prior to eating it, and that now i was expected to pay for an entire pound $5.99 - for one piece of fish, are they crazy. I expressed that I would pay for one piece of fish, and that there were several left which could be weighed in its place, but the "head cashier" insisted that either I pay for an entire pound or be charged with petty theft, then proceeded to call the store security and loudly label me a cook in front of the entire store. The off duty Cleveland Police officer then sat me and the $50 worth of groceries that I had purchased, in the shoplifters room, went back into the main lobby of the store and called the police dispatcher. He then gave my complete name, address and social security number and asked that my name be ran in connection with a petty theft crime. Now, again, I am in the next room and hear him give all of my private information slowly and distinctly to the police operator, spelling out my last name and repeating my social security number and address so that no mistakes would be made, and yet he insist, when I confronted him about it, that no one else in the store could hear him, you tell me, how does he think thats plausible. Some delinquent is probably at this moment filling out credit card applications in my name, as a Cleveland police officer, has he never heard of identity theft. Then my significant other (who I called to come and pickup the groceries I had purchased) offered to pay $5 for the single piece of fish that this entire ordeal revolved around, but the store manager refused, he would rather send a loyal customer to jail than take into consideration situational circumstances, which is something well within his realm of capabilities. The manager held steadfast and strong to the idea that they do have some fish that weigh a pound and therefore he was justified in charging me as such, and I remain steadfast that he was looking for a way to pay for the left over 2-3 pounds of fried fish that would be thrown away for lack of purchase.
The Cleveland cop even had the nerve to tell me that they would no longer want me in the store after this incident...who the hell would want to come back after being treated with such disrespect. Obviously they didn't value my dollars or me as a consumer so I will never grace them with my purchasing power again.
Note, I did contact the corporate office and they were sympathetic but I was also told they had no decision making power in this instance because this particular branch is privately owned, but that they would have someone from the branch contact me directly (lets see if they actually care enough to do so).
In one short Sunday afternoon at Giant Eagle on Buckeye road, I was accused of shoplifting, treated like a criminal and subjected to possible identity theft all while spending my hard earned money. If I would not have been so upset at the time, I wouldv'e thought better about the situation and returned the $50 worth of groceries that I purchased. I would have rather paid court costs to the city of Cleveland and did a half of day in the work house as restitution than give another dollar to that store. In this days economy, why would I?
FYI: Daves is only a couple of blocks away in Shaker Square and a lot more caring about maintaining their customers.

Pros: good brand selection considering store location

Cons: unappreciative and disrespectful to customers
