The first reviewer clearly had a bad experience but I started going to this gym in May and am in love with it.

The people are fantastic and I have learned so much in such a short time. I feel like I am in the best shape of my life and I have totally been snake bitten by Muay Thai and now if I don't go in a couple of days I start to lose my mind.

It's truly a wonderful experience being able to learn this martial art. Don't let one person's bad experience with their first beginner's class (something that in every walk of life usually begins with a "lecture" on the rules) sway your opinion. Stop by the gym and talk to some of the patrons.

Really not sure what the first person is talking about as my experience differed greatly. I took the intro to Muay Thai through this facility and did a remaining one month membership after words and my experience was great.
The atmosphere was very accepting and perfectly able to treat all levels of commitment; I will admit the space was not as large as I expected but we seemed to go through the workouts with no issues.

I would certainly recommend this class/facility for anyone looking to get started in the art of Muay Thai. The gym members are knowledgeable and welcoming and contrary to what the first post stated, I saw no fleas or any such thing. As a matter of fact, keeping the gym clean was a big part of the introduction; I actually believe the person writing the first post is either a competitor of some sort or has a personal stake in writing it because it's extremely off-base from what I had experienced...

I have been attending this gym for over two years. Contrary to what the first person said, I have never seen any class taken into the parking lot without shoes on. And no one enters the gym directly from the parking lot. As to having to sign up for the beginner classes, the purpose is to make certain all members have the basics down. We have a handful of weeks each year where people can come and participate in a class and see if they want to sign up for the beginner classes. And as to fleas...no. I am sorry this person had a bad experience, but perhaps it was for the best.

But the enviroment @ Short North Muay Thai is nothing like he's described it. Check out pictures of the place yourself @ www.shortnorthmuaythai.com, and see if it's consistant with the image he's projecting.

The place is clean, and the instructors are professional: even friendly. You tend to see a lot of upscale cars i

This place likes to push itself as an 'authentic' Muay Thai gym. Allow me to describe a first evening's experience there.

You have to sign an agreement that you are going to take a series of classes , always a red flag. At the first class, first you sign in and are crammed into a crowded hallway and wait for the previous fitness class to finish. They then herded the entire crowd, many in their bare feet, outside into the parking lot to dispense a 15 minute lecture on 'behavior'. No concern at all for folks in bare feet, broken glass in the lot or the dirt they would track back into the gym and onto the mats.

They then had the entire crowd walk directly from the outside to the inside and stand on the mats. So much for clean and sanitary mats.

We then received ANOTHER lecture on behavior while we sat on the mats and tried to kill the many fleas that soon were crawling all over us.

This place tries to cram as many students as possible into each class. They lined everybody up (over 30 students in a small space) for 'warmup' calisthenics which, in my opinion, were way too long. You barely had room to move and folks were crashing into each other during the exercises. By the time the 'warmup. which lasted about 20 minutes was over, there was only 15 minutes left in the class.

The place is a flea infested, poorly run dump and despite their pretensions to authenticity, is a classic example of a money hungry McDojo! Avoid at all costs.
