I had the main rear seal and thermostat in my 2002 Toyota truck replaced by Kevin. I had it finished on a Thursday so I could leave for a small vacation in Blowing Rock NC about 2 hours away from Asheville. After I picked it up and got it home I noticed that it was still leaking. I called Kevin and he said that it would be fine to drive to Blowing Rock, so I did. It leaked oil big time we added 2.5 quarts at least and the thermostat he had changed out stopped working as well. I know it stopped because after the truck was warmed up and the gauge was reading normal it just suddenly dropped to cold. When this happens I was told its because the gauge is stuck open. So when we get back I called Kevin again and he agreed to look at it. He changed out the pc valve an 8.00 dollar part that he said could have been causing the main rear seal to leak in the first place cleaned off the engine and charged me another 57.00 in addition to the 498.00 I had already paid. He explained that he would have to move the transmission in order to get a better look at the main rear seal and that we would have to negotiate about how much that would cost. He would then access weather or not it was a faulty seal or his work either way it was implied I would have to pay again just to figure out what was wrong. I felt that since he had not replaced the pc valve in the beginning he would be able to say thats what caused it this second time and charge me. I felt taken for 550.00 and still had to have the job done again. I ended up taking it to another mechanic this time 480.00 all to find out that Kevin had not replaced the gasket that goes around the seal instead he had used the original one and that's why it was still leaking. 8,000 miles down the road and no leaks yet. I don't trust Kevin to do a good job. Sure he is thorough with the details of what he's doing but he does not stand behind his work and will make you pay more just to see what is going on. Kevin was recommend to me by a friend and I am really sorry this happened but it could have been handled better by Kevin he could have done it right the first time and if not made it right. Neither of which happened.

My daughter lives in Asheville. When she needs work done on her car, she always take it to Kevin. What's especially nice is that he is very willing to discuss the decisions with me in Nashville. His depth of knowledge of repair, his experience, and his skill at diagnostic process gives me a very high degree of confidence and his prices are extremely competitive. I highly recommend Kevin.

We have always had a great experience with Kevin. He takes care to explain the problem and possible solutions carefully. He has always been honest and upfront with us and never padded the invoice with unnecessary stuff. Be careful though, he will tell you in absolute detail about the issue with your car and what he did to fix it unless you ask him not to, personally my eyes start to glaze over after about 2 minutes of car talk, but I'm sure it's nice for those who understand.
