We went here for dinner on our last night 'down the shore' for our family's traditional summer vacation. The food was good, the service was fine, the management was TERRIBLE. We had two gift certificates for $50 each. Upon presenting them to the waitress at the end of the meal for our $190 bill, she said that she wasn't sure if we could use two certificates at the same time. She left the table to ask her manager and returned with a bill for $90. She said that we were, in fact, allowed to use these two together. We paid the bill with a credit card, signed the slip for $90 plus a $38 tip, and left the premises. Three hours later, my mother (who paid) received a call from the manager, Linda, explaining that the waitress was wrong and we could not use the two certificates together, thus she had billed my mothers card for another (unauthorized) $50. My mother discussed that matter we me, (I am an attorney) and I assured her that the manager, Linda, could not just tack charges onto a bill after the credit slip had been signed. That in effect, this is at best credit card fraud, and at worst, stealing. I returned Linda's call, and tried to explain to her that, whatever her general policy, at the close of the sale the waitress assured us that we could use the two certificates; furthermore, we only authorized the credit card charge of $90 plus $38 for tip. Linda proceeded to yell at me for the better part of half an hour about how "if she has to follow the rules, I do too". I tried repeatedly to calmly relay the point that we had not authorized these charges, were therefore not responsible for paying them, and would dispute them with our credit card. I further apprised Linda that, while we enjoyed the food at her restaurant I would, based upon the atrocious handling of this matter, be forced to write a negative review of her establishment, to which she replied I dont care! After a half hour of Linda, the manager, yelling at me, she hung up the phone on me! My mother received an additional charge of $100 on her card; apparently, as a form of retaliation, Linda decided to revoke both gift certificates, despite having honored them both at the time of the completion of the sale. My mother had already alerted her credit card company to the dispute, and Linda eventually removed the charges; however, the stain of the terrible management had already set. I will never go back here, and encourage anyone, who values good business practices, to avoid Olive Oils Eatery at all cost. It was a terribly disappointing and stressful experience.
