There are tons of bakeries across Manhattan and several stand out as being the most excellent. Why Magnolia? Maybe it??s the delicious tasting frosting, or scrumptious cake part. Or maybe it was the lovely surprise my secret Santa gave me one year. If you never indulged on one cupcake from Magnolia, then you should give it a shot. They have really tasty cupcakes topped with a large amount of icing. The line may be long but completely worth it!

Magnolia has super yummy flavors in addition to your classic chocolate and vanilla. Everything is so fresh looking and tastes that way too. I do have to warn you though, if you want to go there to get a cupcake or any other baked good, it probably won??t last long if you continue to smell and look at it on your way home. Not only do they have cupcakes but also they have other baked goods. I??m so tempted to try them as well but every time I see the cupcakes I give up and go for one.

Obviously lines are a pain but are to be expected when you go to excellent places. I can??t complain too much about the service. They kind of have to deal with ridiculous lines all day. On a nice day, wait in line for the most delicious scrumptious cupcake, you won??t be disappointed.

If there's no line, go to Magnola. The cupcakes are somewhat overhyped, but still really tasty, and their icebox cake is amazing! Cute spot in midtown, and great for satisfying a sweet tooth.

Love the convenience of parking on the street close to the bakery. So much space to move around from cupcake, cookies, cakes and drinks.

Pros: Party room and seating area

Cons: Help yourself with the cupcakes

inside smells like a dream, red velvet cupcakes are slapp your momma good, banana pudding tastes like what your southern grandma would make if you had one....

a little crowded, but well worth the wait.

Best cakes, good location. Magnolia Bakery made cupcakes a nationwide food fad. People claim the downtown location is best, but this Upper West location will fill your fix.

Pros: Best red velvet cake!

Cons: A moment on the lips, forever on the hips

I love cupcakes. I love cake. This upper west side branch of the village bakery has these galore. There's more icing than cake. There's also more lines waiting than I can understand. It's good. But is it really that good? Personally I've had better.

I love their cupcakes and their location. The only problem is, this place can be super packed in the afternoon. Once I went here around 3 p.m. on a Tuesday, and the line was out the door and around the corner.

This has the best cupcakes around. They are moist and they look beautiful. We bought some then walked across the street to the park and ate them. There is a small line to get in but worth the wait. It has great other desserts as well.

I have been a big fan of Magnolia Bakery down off Bleeker street for many years. I hated schleeping all the way across town and then having to wait in line for 30 minutes just to get a cupcake. I was very pleased to see that Magnolia opened up a branch on the UWS close to home. The cupcakes are just as delicious and there was virtually no wait. Even better, the cupcakes are a third of the calories of a Crumbs cupcake. This is a win-win situation for me!

The new location is super-convenient and the quality of the cupcakes is just as good as their downtown location - that is to say OUTSTANDING! I love Magnolia cupcakes and was excited to hear of their new uptown location. It's more spacious than the little shop on Bleecker St. which allows less confusion and congestion when picking out your self-serve cupcakes. The staff was friendly and I was more than happy to hand over my $$ and hang out at one of their cafe tables to enjoy my vanilla/vanilla cupcake with a nice cup of milk. As far as the flavor of the actual cupcake goes, my cake was nice and moist with a nice heap of stiff, yet creamy frosting on top. I'll be back for more! I don't live in the area so it's nice to know that there's a more convenient alternative to getting my Magnolia cupcake fix!

I will never eat another cupcake from this place, even if it was free. I love baked goods and was very impressed by the decor and ambiance of this place but the chocolate cupcake and the red velvet cake were the worse me and my husband have ever eaten. A Hostess cupcake from the corner bodega has more moisture than the stuff at Magnolia's. My husband and I ate half of it and threw the rest out. It was a waste of calories and a waste of money. Magnolia Bakery, shame on you!

The cupcakes here are highly overrated. They are very expensive and not worth the price. I have had better cupcakes in NYC. The service is quite rude - they do not seem to be interested in helping the customer just want to take their money. They start yelling at you as you walk in that it is self-serve and everyone is leaning over the cupcakes and it is quite a mess with some of the icing dripping all over. I was happy they were in my neighborhood but will not go back.

The cupcakes are what they are. They taste good enough, but they're a bit much and a poor value at $2.25+.

But the service was really awful! I was there yesterday afternoon, and the staff was pretty rude. Examples:

* Before we even reached the register with our one cupcake and one red velvet, a tall man yelled at us, "FIVE BUCKS." No "hi", no "welcome", no "please". Wow.

* We were standing at the cocktail tables at the front, and the adjacent window was open about 8 inches. (Mind you, outside it was 39-degrees and windy.) As I tried to close the window a little, a woman behind the register yelled over to me, "Excuse me! Oh are you cold? Because we're REALLY warm back here." And another employee added, "YEAH." Does the customer's comfort matter at all?

Then the employees starting joking around about how one of the men was going through menopause. I don't know if they thought they were being cool or funny or hip. But I would much rather be treated like a customer than an unwelcome neighbor.
