Pricey old world charm, with a nice bar and good but not fantastic food. For the price it should be fantastic. Nice leather booths, fancy silver and excellent service by good waiters. It looks and feels like a 1950's mens club; in a nice way. A good place to go if your close by and on an expense account. The bar is a nice quite classy place to meet friends and the drinks are good.

The Phantom of the Opera and ate at this place. It's a real railroad dining car. Full of history with pictures on the wall and complete with the cute outfits the waiter wear. Food expensive and nothing really memorable stuck out in my mind.

The original Pacific Dining Car is just west of downtown L.A. in a REAL Pacific Dining Car, the one in Santa Monica is the new one.

They both specialize in GREAT steak (aged beef at a hefty price) with huge portions & the food is a la carte. My favorite is the Delmonico (a grilled slice of prime rib). Menu is on a slate that is brought to the table.

Waiters are old school. Very good service.

Get the onion rings... you will think you have died & gone to heaven. Paradise is a platter (it will feed 4) of their onion rings, which are really not onion rings, but lightly battered, deep fried onion slices. NOT greasy but light & delicious.

Steaks are served with potatoes (your choice)... get the baked potato & the waiter will bring a cart to the table w/ FRESH chopped chives & real sour cream & after you insert the pats of sweet butter, he will ladle the fixin's onto your potato until you cry 'uncle'.

They serve chicken & pasta, but why bother? This is where you go for mid-western, corn-fed, aged Angus beef.

They serve breakfast, lunch & tea. The downtown location has big wigs from big oil & banking at lunchtime.

A delicious, artery blocking experience... you have not had a great steak until you've eaten here.

And, yes they serve dinner ALL DAY... which means you can get a steak cooked perfectly, even if you are a night owl or jet-lagged.
