Do not hire these scams even if it's cheap ..
From living social or groupon!!!!!

To make an appt, it takes days since they don't pick up their line.
When you actually make an appt, which in my case today from 11 to 1, mine is a no show no call!!!!!

I called their 1800 and their ny line and Noone seems to pick up.
This people are unprofessional and I had to make a complaint to groupon about them!

Thankfully groupon gave me a refund

Do not bother calling and if you hired them via Living Social, Living Social will refund your money (actually they will credit your account). Made an appt with them two days ago for today. They never showed up and will not answer their phone. I wish I saw the other reviews before I hired them.

We concur with other ratings - do not use this company. We hired them for chimney cleaning and a fast-talking salesman offered us a deal on a lock-top chimney damper. Although the damper is a good product our chimney had an existing double stainless steel chimney cap (expensive) that we had installed years before and that is cemented into our crown. This cap limits the amount the damper can open and we were told it should work fine with our existing cap. 3 months later when we made our first fire, our house filled with smoke because the damper was only able to open 2 inches as opposed the the 8 required for proper function! We called the company and our calls were not returned. After contacting the attorney generals office we did get a call from Tom saying it would replace it with a different type of damper but we never heard from him again. We have now gone 2 winters without use of our fireplace trying to find a resolution to the problem. If you have are dissatisfied with the service you received from this company, please file a complaint with the state attorney general's office so we can build a case and prevent others from being abused.

DO NOT USE. Trust me-total scam. It seems they are having a hard time keeping up with the scam as they rarely even answer their phones now.

I purchased the chimney cleaning from Living Social on February 5 2013, I called and made an appointment for February 8 2013 between 1 and 4 PM. I was told at the time that they will do the cleaning in the rain. They also told me if they were not coming because of weather they would call and reschedule.
At 4:30 on February 8 I called the company to see if they were running behind. To my surprise they told me that had already cancelled everyone because of the snow. I told them I had been sitting here waiting since 1:00 PM, then the man said I was not even on the schedule and he asked me who scheduled it. I said I didn't know I had only scheduled it the day before. (Later I find out it is the manager)
The soonest he could reschedule would February 23 between 8-11 . I also asked them to call first to let me know they were on their way since it was early.
I went to get my mail at 9:50 AM on February 23 2013 and discover a yellow piece of paper hanging out of my mailbox. The paper said they had been here at 8:30 and waited till 8:43 then left. I called the 800 number till I got a live person. I told her I had been up waiting for them and was doing laundry. I did not hear any door bell nor did I receive any phone call that they were on their way. That request was clearly stated on the yellow paper at my door with the correct phone number.
She said that she would send them back and asked for my phone number and would call me back. My phone call was never returned by either the repairman or the lady answering the phone. She said that they had called me and talked to me. I told her that no one has called me and I have no missed calls on my phone and no voicemail messages. I have talked to no one from that company or anyone else. She says she will call them and that maybe there was a mix up and she would call me back. She never returned my call again. I called and kept getting the machine so I kept calling til I got a live person I wanted this issue resolved.
She NEVER returned my call, which I also find out she is the manager,(so she says) she procedes to tell me to stop calling or she will report me because I'm tying up the phone lines. So was she avoiding my calls? She obviouly knew I had called a number of times. Now she has changed her story that the repair men have called me 3 times and left a message and that they did ring the door bell. I told her that my door bell was not rung I was in the laundry room doing wash and I could hear the doorbell down there and I also had my phone on, she then asks me if my house is so big that I wouldn't hear someone knocking on my door. I said that I was in the basement. She also said that they said they waited in front of my house for 20 minutes, when the yellow paper clearly states they only waited for 13 minutes. She also says you didn't see a truck I front of your house? No I was in the basement waiting for a phone call. I did not realize the repair men were so incompetent that I had to sit glued to front window because they don't know how to read directions to call first or use a doorbell.
Some how all the blame is being placed on me for not hearing a knock. Thats why we have a door bell. Who doesn't use a doorbell? Everyone who comes to my door uses the bell. Even little kids who want to do yard work for a few extra bucks. Your manager also said that they will not be coming back and will not reschedule my appointment. She also said that she will check the GPS, because GPS's don't lie and that will prove they were here.
I told her I am not disputing that they were here, that is not the issue. They are not telling the truth they did not ring the bell. They did not at anytime talk to me or leave messages on my cell phone. She said she will also check they cell phone to see if they called me, she could not even return my phone call, so I doubt she will even bother to check them.
I asked for the manager she said she was the manager. Very, very poor management skills. I asked for the owners name. She said I wouldn't want to talk to him. She gave me the name Mike Meyers, but the website says differently.
If the message written on the order form had been followed, that I be called when they were on the way this whole situation could have been avoided.
This company has some very, very serious customer service issues. I will also be reporting this to Living social and Angies List.

On Nov , 2012 National Chimney Cleaners and Repairs, Inc came to my home for a chimney clean for both a fireplace and a woodburning stove. We paid for the work at the time of the service.
On Dec 1 while the woodburning stove was being used, the stove pipe which connects to the ceiling suddenly broke free and began spilling tons of smoke into my family room (the stovepipe disconnected from the ceiling vent). The cleaning they had done the previous week had apparently loosened the screws on the stovepipe.
The reaction of National Chimney to my call astonished me
1. They were very defensive and did not admit they caused the problem
2.They showed no sense of urgency to fix the problem despite the fact that we were losing heat out the hole in the ceiling from the unattached stovepipe.
3.They were more interested in blaming the 2 service guys and wanted a receipt to show them who did the work ( I had my canceled check)??they apparently don??t keep records of who comes to your house to clean your chimney (??...very strange)
4.About a week later, they finally sent someone out to look at the damage but that person was not equipped to fix the problem . They informed us the manager/owner had to come and inspect the property / damage
5.No one called me after 2 weeks so I called them on Dec 24th to set up an appointment for after the holidays for the owner or manager to come and they refused to set an appointment. They told me to call back after the Holidays. When I objected, saying this was an emergency as we were living with a hole in the ceiling and had to turn the heat up to 85 degrees just to keep the room warm the man who said he was the acting manager got nasty started yelling and then hung up on me.
So much for customer service and their response to my ??emergency? situation. They never did call me back or fix the problem. We ended up taking care of the situation by hiring a repairman with a ladder tall enough to replace the screws in the stovepipe. Not a difficult job but it was sure inconvenient for us and cost us a bunch in heating bills.
I will not use National Chimney Cleaners and Repair again and would not recommend them to anyone else.

If you have an appt., it doesn't make any difference. I had a 8-11am window and the guy came past 2pm - after calling multiple times that he'd be there earlier. As the saying goes, "You get what you pay for." and in this case, you pay for soot and you get soot...

National Chimney was one of the most disrespectful and unprofessional companies I have ever dealt with. And they cheated us in the end. The saga begins with a Saturday morning 8am appointment that they missed and called to cancel on us at 8:30am. They promised to make it right, so scheduled us for 7:30am the next Saturday. I woke up and went downstairs to wait for them by 7:20am and by 8:00am I tried to call them. Nobody answers at the office, so I called back for 30 min straight till someone finally answered. The lady said she'd call the technician and have him call me. Another 30 min went by with no call, so I called the office repeatedly again, with nobody answering the phone. Finally, the technician did call and say he came and knocked, but nobody was home so he left. I asked what time he showed up, and he admitted he came at 7am; that is 30 min earlier than the appointment. To be fair, he did call and leave a voicemail on my cell phone, which I did not tun on until 7:15am. I called the main office again for 45 min until someone finally answered, and I told them that it isn't right for their technicians to show up 30 min early, and then leave right away because nobody answered. I happened to get the owner on the phone this time and he apologized profusely, and said that the following Saturday he would come personally and do it himself. He also said that his technician that came and left noticed some damage that needed repair and said he would take care of me with a very good price on the repair to make up for it. My 3rd Saturday appointment rolls around (this time I was supposed to be the first appointment at 7am). I woke up at 6:30am to wait for them to be sure. Nobody showed and by 8am I furiously started calling the main office, but nobody answered. Finally, at 8:30am (1.5 hours late), someone knocks on the door. As I walked to the door, I see through the glass that he already started walking away as if to leave. I opened the door and he came back, apologizing for being late. It turns out he is NOT the owner, since the owner is busy at another job. I said the owner was supposed to come and take care of the chimney problem. Mike, the technician, went on the roof to look at the problem, then came down and gave me a song and dance estimate that was higher than the original rough estimate of $400 I spoke with the owner about, BEFORE his "I'll take care of you, I'll make it right" discount. Mike pretended to call the owner (he walked outside and came back in a very short time) and said the owner said he would give us a price of $425 if we paid cash. I asked if I could talk to the owner, he told me no. I said that I would not do the repair today then, and I'll wait till I can settle on the price with the owner. The technician Mike got very angry then and said "have a good day" and left. I called after him "what are you doing, you are supposed to be here to sweep the chimney!" He said "get someone else to do it". I had to shout at his back as he was leaving to say this is extremely unprofessional and a scam if you are forcing me to buy additional stuff just to do a chimney cleaning which I already paid for with Living Social. He said my chimney wasn't dirty and didn't need a cleaning (although I have not cleaned it in 4 years). He eventually came back and agreed to just do the cleaning since I already paid for it. Mike came in and started to do the cleaning by sticking some pipe (with no brush) up the chimney. Some soot fell, and he was done in less than 10 min. He had a shop vac with him which he did not use, and he left the dirt on that fell in the firebox. I dont think the second guy, Dennis, did anything at the top to sweep the dirt from that side. At this point he said I could talk to the supervisor if I wanted (why not the owner?) and gave me the phone with Nick on the other end. Nick gave me a better price under $400 if I paid cash. I told him I did not have that much in cash and would rather pay by credit card. Mike the technician interrupted me and said "can I talk to him for a second?" I gave Mike back his phone and he walked outside and closed the door so I couldn't hear. He came back in a minute later and asked what I want to do. All of the sudden now, he was okay with cash or credit card, at the $3xx price. It all seemed very shady and I felt uncomfortable, so I said I'll pass. At this point he gathered his stuff and left.

All this ALONE would be enough to get these guys very bad marks, but the kicker is that I then looked up another chimney sweep company to get a second estimate on the repair. This time I selected based on the one with the highest/best reviews. They came and gave me some estimates for the repairs, BUT on top of all that, they said my chimney needed to be swept as it was dirty. National Chimney did basically nothing, on top of being rude, disrespectful, and shady.

Terrible company. I responded to their ad in a Valu-Pak for a $30 chimney cleaning. They arrived, went on my roof and told me I had to pay $300 for chimney repairs. When I said no, they left without cleaning the chimney. I called their office and was told they would, "look into it," I never heard from them again. Avoid this company.

I called and got an appt. for the following week for a chimney cleaning. They did not show or call. After repeatedly calling, someone finally picked up the phone and we rescheduled for 2 days later. First appt. of the day. They did not show up. I've called over and over again but they do not pick up. How do you run a business by doing no-shows and not answering the phone?

national chimney inc. is totally unreliable. they sold us a fix for smoke entering a lower room chimney when upper room chimney being used. they scheduled a return appointment to inspect and correct problem but 'no show'. they won't return phone calls. they have no location address on their advertisements nor their invoices. no local phone number just an 800 number. they are trying to remain invisible in the event of customer complaints. class action suit is required.

National Chimney & Masonry (Tom Casey) was contracted to clean my chimney. While cleaning they told my wife that the chimney was seriously deteriorated and recommended a stainless steel liner. Big surprise they had it on the truck and scared her into the installation that day - $1,100.

It was bad enough to get taken on the install but they did not even do it correctly and created a deadly situation in my home. I returned home a week later to find our home filled with smoke and soot. I called my oil company who told me that the insert was incorrectly installed and National had sealed the pipe with an excessive amount of cement, which fell into the chimney opening and completely sealed it off.

I called a real Chimney service to inspect and here is what they found:

?A 5 inch insert was placed into a 7 inch chimney opening which was not only against code, but was not large enough to support the existing oil burning furnace and gas hot water heater. This caused a backup of smoke and soot which clogged the furnace and the insert.
?The installer ran the hot water heater smoke pipe directly into the wall, instead of using the proper ??T? connection outside of the wall, which is against code.
?When the hot water heater was installed in the wall, the installer cut into the stainless steel insert, instead of using a ??T? connection, invalidating the lifetime warranty on the insert.
?Two new chimney caps were installed, one of which was the incorrect size for the chimney opening.
?Inspection of the top of the chimney showed that furnace cement was used to seal the new insert in place. Cardboard was packed around the insert pipe to keep it in place while the cement dried, which is not only against code, but caused an extremely dangerous fire hazard in the chimney.
?Inspection of the top eight feet of the chimney showed only normal wear and tear, a condition in which an insert is not recommended by a reputable chimney cleaning company.

Repeated calls to the company and messages left have been ignored and owner Tom Casey told me to take him to court. I took him to small claims court and the judge decided it was a clear case of consumer fraud and awarded triple the judgment. Of course I have not been able to collect from this crook

It was a simple inspection job to clear the way for obtaining a certificate of occupacy from the township prior to renting the home and was handled on time and expeditiously.

They were awesome. They came on time. Got the work done quickly and didn't rip me off. I had gotten another estimate from another company that was trying to rip me off so then I called National Chimney for an estimate and they were very fair. They did the same work but for thousands less. I would totally recommend these guys. I thank them because now I can use my fireplace and chill back with a glass of wine and not worry anymore.

Very Professional, Tricia was very accommodating on the phone and was able to schedule the appointment for same day service! Joe and his helper were very polite and efficient! Joe actually called to let us know when they were about 20 minutes away, swept our fireplace chimney, other one did not need at this time. Alerted us to some maintenance for the future and cleaned up all debris! Very happy and will use this company in the future!
Thank you!

The rep who visited us from National Chimney recommended that we not clean our chimney because it would not be necessary. Because we would not have known this ourselves, the recommendation shows integrity which is often hard to come by in the building profession.

They tell you everything to get the job, then perform everything in a big hurry, and when nothing works, they do not want to talk with you anymore. Even though they promised to "guarantee" the work, they will not even return to look at the problems. Besides that, they lie about it and put you off with false excuses. Stay away from this outfit.
