I got a 1 hour deep tissue massage... my first visit to Sankofa. This is a place I will definitely return! I am partial to deep tissue over relaxation massage - so this review will be for those like me out there:
Tye has great strength and pressure, which is something I look for, of course she asked if it was the right amount as she moved to a different body part. I like my massage to be somewhat uncomfortable so that the good feeling after the massage lasts for a LONG time! This massage was GREAT! I was a little sore that night, but woke up totally rejuvenated! My body was really starting to ache, and its all gone now! I will be a repeat customer for sure!

Pros: close to suburbs, clean, good pricing, RN

I've never felt comfortable getting a massage so when I got a gift certificate for Christmas (last year!) I kept putting off using it. All I can say now is Why Did I Wait!
Tye made me feel welcomed and relaxed right away. The massage was only for 1/2 hr. I'm looking forward to my next appointment and 1 hour massage!

Pros: Clean, comfortable

Cons: None

I am a frequent massage client at a competitive spa, but wanted to give Sankofa a try after a friend recommended it. The deep tissue massage and reflexology treatment I received at Sankofa was one of the best!! Several years ago I injured my hands boxing; the treatment I received at Sankofa is the first ever to make my hands feel great for an extended period of time. Sankofa is absolutely fabulous!! I look forward to my next appointment.

Pros: Reflexology

Cons: none

Had seen Tye before for a foot massage, which was great. Decided to treat myself to a body massage and it was worth it. Everyone is struggling these days with work or money issues.......this is the Best thing you can do to relieve all of that stress and tension. Felt like a new person when I left. Cant wait to go back :)

Pros: Soooooo relaxing

This was my first massage and a great experience. I wasn't sure what to expect, but Tye let me know up front exactly what to expect. Her storefront studio is well decorated - a great place to relax. She communicated throughout (minimally) just to make sure I was ok.

I would recommend Sankofa to anyone without reservation - though you do NEED a reservation before showing up.

Pros: professional, great ambience,

Cons: none I can think of

I was very comfortable talking with and getting a massage from Tye. In talking with her before the massage began, I was able to describe to her what I was looking for--and she got it exactly right. During the massage I was able to relax and completely zone out and found it easy to tell her if it was too much or too little. I will be back!

Pros: A comfortable place to have the perfect massage for you!

Sankofa Massage is one of only a few places that I have truly fell enjoyed receiving a massage from. Tye (Owner/Massage Therapist/All Around Sweet Person) is respect and sensitive to not just my stated needs for the appointment but often reads my body well to work out areas of stress and knotting that I did not know existed. Every time I go, I learn new things about my body and how the muscles, gravity, and skeleton interact. She's gentle in terms of aligning the body and placing in a position into which it can be worked on, but provides exhilirating deep-tissue massage that reenergizes my entire body. Her decorum and her personality provide a reflective and warm environment which allows clients to feel comfortable and relax so the work itself is proven even more effective.

Pros: Thorough, High-Quality, and Just Downright Amazing

Cons: None that I can think of

If you are looking for the perfect massage look no further than 44 Ocean St. in Lynn at Sankofa. Owner and masseuse, Tye, was completely in tune with my body's needs. Although she had never done work on me before it was if she knew exactly where my trouble spots were and applied the perfect amount of pressure during the entire session. The space is super clean and elegant (not to mention relaxing) and Tye makes every effort to keep you comfortable... she even asked if I enjoyed relaxing aroma or I preferred no scents. You got to check it out!!

Pros: 5 star massage, beautiful space, great price!

Cons: Can't think of a single con except you might get addicted!

I love massages, but hate going to someone new. I found Tye by searching for someone near my home. What a great result! Tye is attentive, hears what you are saying, and has a beautifully calming demeanor. She not only asked what I was looking for, but really heard what I said, and tailored the massage to my needs. She is both personable and professional. I will be going to my second appointment this weekend, and plan on going to Tye regularly.

Pros: easy parking, relaxation near the ocean

Cons: none

Ratings_icons Awesome Massage

What prompted my initial call to Tye was winning a free half-hour massage. My husband had told me for years that I should try massage therapy for my back and upper shoulders, but, of course, I always procrastinated because it always seemed a little outside of my comfort level to be lying on a couch while someone was kneading by muscles. However, I happened to tell him about winning, and he never stopped ?bugging? me about going so I finally gave in, and I have to say it was the best thing I ever did for myself. Tye is so gracious and such a beautiful person ? inside and out. She put me at ease from the first moment we met, and her wonderful abilities to relieve my body of the pain that has many times made me nauseous is just short of miraculous. I am a much happier person having met Tye, and I would recommend her therapeutic ministrations to anyone who is experiencing pain or stress in their lives.

Pros: So soothing

Cons: None

I would recommend getting a massage here to anyone! It's an amazing, relaxing experience. I feel great afterwards. I've been to many massage therapists and this is one place I keep coming back for more.

Pros: plenty of parking, professional, relaxing

Cons: some distractions in the office with noise sometimes

I starting going to Sankofa due to pain in my neck and between my shoulder blades due to a highly stressful work environment. Now that I'm in a different environment, I love to make an appointment at Sankofa as part of a virtual spa day I create for myself. I fast beforehand and after leaving I drink water, eat fresh fruits and put aside time to pray and meditate.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Sankofa:
1. Superb professionalism and attention paid to the customer's entire well being
2. Obvious superiority of technical training in various massage techniques
3. Relaxing atmosphere that instantly starts to relieve stress before massage even starts
4. A variety of services available to relieve soreness from workouts, tension from stress or overzealous
stretching, etc.
5. The therapist's/owners' personal devotion to health, fitness and spiritual growth (truly, calmness and clarity of Purpose makes a difference; it's the difference between Sankofa and other places I've been...)

Really, I could go on.

When times are tough, we cut back on doing things for ourself when this is precisely the time for maintaining (or initiating) self care. If you can, I definitely recommend Sankofa for yourself. I really like the back and shoulder or the deep tissue.

Pros: Plenty of parking, nice atmosphere

Cons: I have to drive, but it's soooo worth it

I've known Tye for many years even as she was in massage school. I've received massages from Tye while she was a massage student and also a licensed professional and all of my sessions have always been great. Before starting a massage, she consults with you to better understand what your ailments are and will make suggestions as she seems fit. She wants to ensure that she gives all of her clients a full customized experience. Tye is a master at her profession and her knowledge base includes a variety of massage techniques that ranges from the traditional to the non-traditional. Tye is a consummate professional. Her demeanor is both warm and calming. She will put you at ease the moment you meet her. I highly recommend a massage from Sankofa Massage. You'll be sure to return!

Pros: Great massages and customer service, willing to work with your schedule

Cons: None

Ratings_icons A wonderful experience

mylabchloe

I have only good things to say about Sankofa Massage. Tye is wonderful and she specializes her massages to your specific needs. I love the reflexology on my feet and I don't like my feet to be touched! It is a nice quiet environment so it is very easy to relax and just drift off into complete relaxation. She gives a discount on multiple massages which you don't see at other massage studios. I would highly recommend Tye for your ultimate massage experience.

Ratings_icons Far exceeded my expectations!

It's not often that I walk away from anything raving to everyone I know. From the moment I sat down with Tye I felt relaxed. Her calming demeanor and warm personality were a prelude to the massage that followed. I appreciated her checking in regarding the pressure, since my left side is normally filled with tension, and her follow-up after the massage was nice. I felt like a million bucks when I left. I can't say enough about the woman and the massage. Thank you!

Pros: Evening Appointments

Cons: None

Ratings_icons Best Massage Therapist EVER !! Her techniques and style are more than therapeutic !

Frimmy

I have tried many therapists over the years. Because of Tye's therapy I don't have to bother my son, Dr. Scott (Chiropractor) with "Please fix my neck; please fix my back...? all the time. Type's therapy has enabled me to keep my body well-maintained and pain free. I enjoy the deep tissue work and I am planning on trying some of Tye's other techniques.

I've had messages at other places and nothing compared to Tye... She makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. She has magical hands. Not only do you leave there knot free, but you leave there happier and more at peace then you came in. I recommend Sankofa to everyone.

Pros: The best massage in The North Shore

HI, So I love massage, I get them when ever I can afford them and even when I can,t. I am 40 years old and workout regularly: take spin 3 times a week, lift 3 times a week, attend yoga classes and white water raft. Needless to say my body hurts at the end of the day and massages are just the thing to help my body recover from the stress I put it through. Tye at Sankofa Massage and Bodywork is just the woman for the job. She has an intuitive sense where those real tender muscles are and knows how to soothe them and guide them into deep relaxation. She also knows when to back off when those muscles are particularly tight and sensitive. I appreciate that Tye is communicative and checks in with me regarding the pressure she is applying, which can range from very deep to gentle. I can't say enough good things about Tye's skills as a massage therapist and she has gotten better with each massage I have received. The only reason I did not give her a 5 star rating was because her space is located within another office, so the massage space is louder then I would like. I will say that once the massage starts I rarely notice the noise because I am so relaxed. So book that massage with Tye at Sankofa Massage and Bodywork, your body will be thankful.

Pros: Tye's hands

Cons: Massage space
