I ussually go to Dream on Friday's because a friend of mine DJ's. In a discussion with the planner and him , I decided to celebrated my Birthday there. I was expecting a great number of friends and, family with hopes of spending a lot of money in bottle service. My friends got there before me and , were rejected because the doorman decided to make up a "reservation list" which he never refered to. I got there he was completely rude to me saying.." I'm not letting you or any of your party because I dont want to" Everyone took turns telling him that we were planning to spend a great amount at the bar. He was completely rude and, proceeded to let everyone else in. Its sad when such a beautiful hotel has a nasty rep for their employees. I plan to go on a complaining spree. I can definitely see why its only 20 people that attend as people are turned off with their unprofessional customer service. We ending up go to the Ace hotel which was soooo much fun. The staff was so nice and, made sure my bday party was hassle free! If you ever have problems at DREADFUL DREAM SPEND YOUR MONEY AT ACE! MUSIC AND, SERVICE BEYOND AMAZING!

So I used to love this lounge. I've been on numerous occasions and have held past birthday parties there. That was when Mikha and Liz Hartman were working there (they were actually responsive as opposed to this phantom woman Cortney Van whoever) . OMG!! how things have changed. First of all I called to make/confirm a reservation ONE MONTH prior to the actual date. I was told by Niddia (no idea if I am spelling that right) that they no longer take reservations for Saturdays. Hmm, really? Ok! Well I called back one week later (just to make sure) and again was the same thing. So imagine my surprise when I get to the door on Saturday and was asked by the doorman/promoter (who the hell needs a promoter for a hotel lounge) if i had a reservation. The quick thinker that I am, I lied. I told him that I did but NIDDIA f*cked up. (I mean, she did). He told me that he would accommodate me (once he found out that I have about 30 people coming with bottle service) but not before he told me that the dress code was "no jeans or sneakers". ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I've heard of the no sneakers rule so I get it. But we are in NYC were jeans are a staple. I went upstairs and was fuming. It was too late to change venues because everyone was on their way. So I proceeded to text EVERYONE with the change of dress code. I am employed in the customer service field and knew that the way I was being treated wasn't right so I went to talk to the night manager, Mario. Big mistake. Talking to him was like talking to a cup of pudding. NOTHING. After I stated my case about how un-fair I was being treated, along with the fact that my name was NOT on the reservation list, coupled with the fact that I purposely wanted to celebrate at AVA because I've had many good experiences there and because I could potentially be a huge headache, he seemed to have forgotten what his "promoter" said and told me that my party could in fact wear jeans, NO KIDDING! after several key lime martinis, my guest arrived. Elena, the server was pleasant and made my previous experience a memory. UNTIL the busy boy came out with my cupcakes and dropped them on the floor, it began to rain and we were moved from the ill covered roof to the inside lounge where my blazer was stolen. So the morale of the story. Stay away from AVA. If you've been there hold on to your memories because times have changed.

I loved AVA lounge the music was great. I have been there on a Saturday night and a Friday evening. Both times the security, and waitresses were very friendly. I am not sure what some of these people are talking about but it's a nice place. Granted I was there in Feb. and March so it wasn't that crowded but had a great time. One other con is it's a sophisticated spot but why do they only serve Pizza. That is the one thing that is extremely dissapointing. The website has a menu but when you get there that's not what they serve. That's the only negative.

I'm a bit surprised at all the negative reviews. I went for a party on Saturday at the rooftop lounge, where our party had 1/2 the rooftop reserved (the side with the terrace). From the moment we got to the rope at front we were asked if we were on a guestlist, which we were, and bouncers immediately wisked us up to the rooftop lounge. The view there of TimesSquare is amazing. The waitstaff was friendly, bottles flowed freely, the music was decent. Overall a good time. I did feel bad for those who were general admission, however, as the penthouse did seem a bit small and PACKED... but the rooftop was great so I would recommend reserving that instead. No compliants, really! Prices are what you would expect (a few hundred for bottle service)... but it was a good time, definitely worth it and will do again...

Overall I was extremely disappointed in the Ava Lounge. The bouncers were incredibly rude and unprofessional. Even though my organization reserved space there for a holiday party, not all of our co-workers got into the party. I watched the bouncers lie to people on line (some of which were my coworkers) and claim that there were too many people in the lounge and therefore they needed to wait on line, when actually the place was not crowded at all. The bouncers argued, were rude, and because of their unfair treatment and (what I felt like was discrimination), not everyone from my organization got into the Ava lounge and was forced to miss their company holiday party.

The DJ did his best to play popular music but he just wasn't able to keep the crowd engaged. The best part about this lounge is the view and the people I went with, but that's not worth being mistreated. Because of the way we were treated at this place I will never go back and could not recommend it.

I will not get into all the details but the service at the rooftop lounge is awful. From the minute we walked in we were treated like 2nd class citizens. Attitude through out the entire evening and the waitresses act like they are doing you a favor by serving you and give you an attitude when they make mistakes. Dont bother going, spend your money elsewhere. The view is amazing but not worth being treated like we were. I am a new yorker and have been to high end establishments all over the world and have never been treated like this.

This was the worst place I have been to in quite some time. I must say that the decor is very much ikea-like which may be the best thing about it. Its ridiculously small and crowded with terrible music. There was a terrible smell from the minute that I first walked in to the main room that was clearly overly packed and not properly air-conditioned. The bouncer was a total loser about the whole entrance into this spot and finally after entering I was shocked to see that this spot was filled with nothing but guys and really ugly people. On top of it all its bar was slammed since it is a total of 5 feet long and the waitstaff is second to none in terms of classless attitude. Filled with tourists and definitely Jersey shore goers(not including the attractive fake blondes just the cheesy Indian dudes that no one wants to be around), it is not worth anyone's time. Realistically I would rather have hung out in Wyoming than this spot. Do yourself a favor and don't go! By the way if you are a bouncer that works here you should probably understand that just like I said before you make 10 dollars an hour and you need to get over yourself.

After visiting the Ava Lounge on Fri, July 18, 2008 I no choice but to let the potential visitors know what they have to look forward to. I was there for a birthday party for 2 friends of mine. The staff from the door downstairs to the bouncers upstairs were moderately polite. The inside lounge area was so dark that you had to get right in the other persons face to even get a somewhat clear view of what they looked like or who they were. Once upstairs the view was spectacular. The rooftop has a clear unobstructed view of Times Square. We ordered our 1st round of drinks and the waitress is what really took the cake. She looked as if someone had found her on the street, pulled an ol tattered wig out of a dumpster behind a wig store and put her to work. She acted as if this was her 1st time working with a large crowd. The prices didn't bother me because it's Manhattan. I ordered a simple Malibu Rum and OJ because I noticed how irritated she was getting with the other party goers as it relates to their orders. When she FINALLY came back with my drink, literally it was ALL orange juice. I tasted no hint of Rum at all. Then to top it all off the OJ had PULP in it. WHO MAKES A DRINK WITH ORANGE JUICE WITH PULP??? I have been to bars and clubs all over the world and I have never been served PULPY orange juice! I asked her if they could remake it and explained to her that I would pay for the 2nd one as well as she acted as if I had thrown the drink on her. Her whole disposition changed as if I had offended her. THEN when the cake came out, this supposed to be upscale establishment in Manhattan brought the very expensive cake out on throw away picnic saucers and plastic forks! OMG it was like being at a 10 yr old birthday party. To top it all off the check was completely wrong. We ended up just paying it and leaving. The hotel is beautiful, would love to stay there sometime but as for the AVA LOUNGE, they'd be better off closing!

This was my first time at Ava Lounge and after the way that we were treated, it will certainly not be my last. The staff was amazing, kind, and helpful. We had reserved seating on the rooftop for Saturday night. We were whisked upstairs through the line and onto this fantastic roof deck. Our waitress Christina couldnt have been a sweeter nicer girl. We had such an amazing time!! The views are fantastic and we really felt very S*x and the City ish (there were 4 of us!) Everything just worked out 100% perfect. The crowd was good and well dressed. It was definitely a perfect upscale evening.

Went here for a friend's birthday on Saturday night, 6/14 and while we were all impressed with the views, we were not impressed by the rude bouncers and their nasty attitudes. Despite having table service, we had to wait in the back of the line. Once getting to the top, where the lounge is located, we were shown in and had to literally swim our way through to find our little table in the back that could seat maybe 4 people if lucky. The space around the tables is small so if you bring your friends, just plan on dancing up against them. I think it happened to be very crowded on the Sat. that we were there because it had rained very hard during the day and the rooftop was closed. Adding to the misery was the fact that the air condition was broken and the poor men in their long sleaved shirts were sweating most of the night. One plus - the music was great and it would have been more enjoyable if there was actually room to dance and air to breath! The main reason I wouldn't recommend this place is the service, starting with the bouncers and ending with the waitresses. Bouncers were ridiculous - red velvet rope, ect. and major attitude and the waitress once bringing us our table and vodka did not check up on us once to see if we needed more mixers - we had to hunt her down. Impressed? Hardly and I don't think any of us will return back.

Personally I liked this lounge, but that could be because I came on a cold rainy day when the tourists stayed in. There was a good crowd, the music was much better than I thought it would be- mix of hip-hop and reggae and some classics. Drinks weren't too bad, again maybe b/c it wasn't a weekend but they were $9, not $15. I loved the decor inside- great lighting and colors, perfect for a date. I've heard the roof is amazing in the summer so I plan on checking it out.

Last night was a lovely evening to be out an about in the city... I had a very good friend in from the west coast and I decided to take her to Ava & check it out. I had planned to take clients here for dirnks and wanted to make sure it was appropriate (its NOT). The Views are the only thing it has going for it and they are NOT worth it.

The decor is a pathetic attempt at hip, using the cheesiest materials and awful uncomfortable furniture that was tired and sorry looking. The decking material was uneven, cupped and looked even more tired. Service was non-existant, we had left before the second round came out (we waited 40 minutes for the drinks) their Mojitos were the lamest drinks ever. For $15 you get a tiny tiny drink with no booze and no lime just sugar water and mint. There for 2 hours only able to order 1 round of drinks, and RUDE (even by NYC hipster standards) wait staff. Having grown up in Manhattan and being used to the NYC cooler than you set... this place would have been laughable if it I wasn't paying to be there, at the end we got up and tried to leave... waiting another 18 minutes to settle the bill which arrived as a flat fee... no itemization of what we were being charge...they over charged by 50% when they finally got back to me with a proper check.

Basically a what-not-to-do/where-not-to-go in NYC lounges.

The drinks were overpriced: from $15-$25, typically. The crowd is a mix of tourist and cheesy; think guys in striped dress shirts and girls in above-the-waistline belts and Tory Burch flats. The music is straight out of a Jersey shore club in midsummer. I refuse to believe New Yorkers hang out here. This is a tourist trap. In a word, tacky.

A group from work went there the other night to wish one of our co-worker good luck at her new job. Not the place to go. Music was WAY to loud, so much my ears starting hurting. The drinks were mixed well, however, for $14.00, they should have been stronger. Place was overrun with tourists (I know its a hotel bar) and people that thought they were to cool for everyone else.
The wait to go up was long and to get back down was even longer. If you want to feel like you are hip and trendy then go. If not, don't bother.

I have been here several times and I've enjoyed myself everytime I've went. The views from the roof/penthouse are some of the best that I've ever seen. The place has never been overcrowded (reservations are recommended) and the staff and patrons were friendly. I am not a fan of the 'velvet rope' scene, which is why this place appeals to me so much. There's no cover, no bouncer giving you attitude yet you get great ambience decent music and spectacular views no matter where you are. This is also a good place to take people who are visiting or to throw a party (I've had 2 parties here and so far, I've not had any problems). Of course, the drinks are going to cost you (around $12 a piece) but it didn't take too many to get the job done. If you have some extra money and are looking for a chill place with chill people, this is the place to go

Went for a party with over 10 people w/table reservations. said we all couldn't be sitting at the table at once. waitress authorized cc when we TOLD her we'd pay cash. bouncers kicked out some of our party but the manager was cool and let them back in. not good for dancing, but the music was good, had a good buzz going so danced anyway. alot of suits in the place.
view is nice, but this place is overrated. BUT i think it could be a good place for happy hour, not night out

Went to Ava after work with a large group and no one was impressed, least of all those of us who were charged more than what we authorized. (One coworker was charged for drinks others had already paid for, and they charged my credit card more than what I signed for.) Ava is trying to be exclusive with the "Reserved" signs and velvet ropes, but it comes off as forced & laughable. Some were relegated to sitting on planters despite there being empty chairs/stools about. Get over yourselves!

A joke. This place is trying much much too hard to be uh, to BE anything. From the moment you approach the Dream Hotel, you are stopped and asked if you are on the guest list. That's code for "give me a couple of twenty dollar bills and i'll let you and your party in". So once you laugh at their effort and move on, you enter into the elevator with 5 of your closest friends. Unfortunately, at the last minute, a couple of enthusiastic B&Ters walk into the elevator and suddenly, when the elevator door shuts, the elevator too shuts down and you're all stuck. Tic toc. Five minutes (which can seem like two hours when you're stuck in an elevator) and a few calls to the main desk later a security guard comes, pries the door open and says the elevator only holds 4 or 6 people. There are no signs anywhere that indicate so. Isn't that required by law? Once you reach the top floor - Ava Lounge - you are impressed for about 1 minute. The view is nice. You can see Times Square from the large windows. You can squeeze out to the balcony to enjoy the breeze mixed in with second hand smoke. If you're lucky you are allowed up to the terrace - they say you are required to have a room key to be in this area, but my friend's cleavage and smile worked just as well. The music wasn't as loud here, there were seats and annoying waitresses soliciting drinks. The terrace is probably the best part of this bar. Definately not worth it, even for a laugh! Skip it.

Went here for a party on Saturday night, and wasn't impressed. It was cool to go to a bar with the views, but once that novelty wears off, you're left with nothing. The decor (wood panels?) made the place look cheap and tacky. Prices were your average Manhattan bar prices. I will say it was nice to go to a bar with a young crowd that wasn't overly crowded, but I'd actually prefer the incredibly crowded trendy bars to this.

Not a bad place but the doormen are uptight and not friendly. Even if you go early you'll be treated like the place is full and you look homeless. Once you pass the doormen the view will make you forget the door experience. The space is small but cool and the crowd is well mixed. The bar is small so expect a wait but the drinks are strong.

This was one of the worst places I have ever been to. The service at the lounge and especially the adjacent hotel was appallingly awful; they were obnoxious and had tons of attitude. They take reservations but don't honor them, in fact they are extremely rude to you when you suggest that they should. In an industry that is supposed to be about hospitality, I don't see how they are even in business at all.

Apart from the view, the lounge (including the hotel) looks like a cheap worn-out brothel. The cocktail list is limited and nothing special. Worst of all are the employees. In particular the doorman. Reservations are taken, but no guarantee for availablity of seating at arrival. Overall very rude, a lot of attitude and nothing to show for it.

This place has way too much attitude for a second tier hotel in Times Square. We got there really early - 6pm - for a quick drink and had to put up with ridiculous attitude. The rooftop was already roped off, though we were allowed through after a thorough questioning. The view was admitedly nice, but it wasn't worth the constant barrage from the help, first informing us that we'd probably be asked to move when other parties came, then asked twice in 15 minutes if we needed another drink. (No thanks, I think the full drinks should have said it all.) The seats are really uncomfortable, the help not attractive to look at and even worse to deal with, and a lot of the plants were dying. Not a fun scene.

The combination of Dream Lounge and Ava is great for an after-work date. Start at Dream on the ground floor, especially in the summer when it's still daylight, and then head to the penthouse when the sun sets.

The guy who runs these bars is a down-to-earth Irishman who has created a stylish environment with a friendly, unpretentious vibe. The staff, from the very cute bartenders to the ubiquitous security guys, take the cue and are a welcome relief from the norm.

The music is always good, and there are frequently DJs. There's an outdoor area for the smokers, and apparently there's a roof deck above the main bar, but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

Bottom line - it's a brilliant oasis in the nightlife wasteland of Midtown.

The famed terrace has not been opened yet this summer. I don't know why. So if you were looking forward to a martini under the stars, this is not place (for now). I hope they open the terrace soon, because it is the best thing about this place, along with the Key Lime Martini, the library room, and the funny window hangings.

If you seek professionalism, do not bother going to this establishment. The employees are rude and have no reason to be. Doormen did not honor or care about a group reservations and the establishment's staff members were snippy to guests of the party.

If you want to be treated poorly by staff at a bar, there are many lesser expensive places you can choose from.

Its a fun cozy place if its not crowded. If it is, you cant move anywhere. Its small enough with many couches that you can have a conversation with friends and dance if you want as well. But if there are many people there, its a horrible nightmare, you are on top of each other. Recommended going on a date during the week. Stay away during the weekends.

Not to sound like some ranting bitter patron, but seriously the bouncers at this place have way too much attitude. The only reason to go to this place is because its close to peoples offices and is convenient. Admittedly, the place does have nice views and interior, but nothing spectacular. The crowd is usually filled with banker types and B&T people who migrate from Time Square. I mean, going out in New York, one gets accustomed to attitude at the door but there are places that, for a lack of a better term, deserve to be obnoxious. I mean, the hotel in which this bar is located used to be a Best Western. I think its fundamentally wrong to put a velvet rope in front of a Best Western, Im sorry I guess its now called the Majestic Hotel.

This place has great views, a nice breeze, and beautiful people. However, the drinks suck! They are overpriced and the tonic water never has any fiz in it. It's a nice place to hang every once in a while or for a special occasion, but that's it. But if you're in midtown and want to be outside (and not on the crappy sidewalks) this is your place. Get there early if you want a seat.

This place is pathetic. The view is beautiful but the service is horrendous, they must only hire people who were shunned as outcasts in high school. The help was ugly to look at and even more ugly to deal with. I reserved a table on the rooftop two weeks in advance but the manager of the stairs gave too many people a hard time for no good reason. There are too many cooler, nicer places in the city to try than to bother with this one.

Thirty of my friends and I checked out AVA this past sat 6/28, Through out the evening, we werent allowed to go up to the roof (private party) & asked to even leave the library room (private party). When we finally reached the roof and found a corner to ourselves, we had to move (private party, again?!?). We ignored all until, boucners decided to punce on some friends waiting patiently to get back up to the roof. For a D class place, these bouncers sure had an F attitute in dealing with the situation. Except for the views, which we all agreed we've seen better in the city, the bartenders couldnt even pull a decent martini together. Save your energy and the ride to the penthouse, ava herself wouldnt have been caught dead in this place.

From the moment you the elevator doors open, you startle at the backdrop of city buildings bustling in the nighttime sky with a great view of the bright lights of Time Square. The ambience has an air of surprise and the rooftop deck is a great accent to its attraction (if it quits raining!). It's avant-garde, creative, and chic mixed with a younger crowd, suits, & ties. A friend and me went on a Monday and were treated very well, especially by Tim. This will be our new spot during the week. This is definitely a great place to bring a date, or just to chill with a group of friends.
