1 Stars: Review (by Jennifer Y.)

Trying new restaurants is always hard especially since we don't know whether the food is going to be good or even the service. This place is really helpful in trying to give you more information about the new restaurants.

4 Stars: Helpful site (by Mary O.)

If you want to know about the latest restaurants (and if they are worth the time and money to visit) this is a helpful site to check out before you make your reservations. I don't always agree with them, but I still would like an opinion before I try a brand new place.

5 Stars: One of the Best Restaurants in SD (by DangLad)

From the second we reaced the door, our expectations were met and exceeded at Whisknladle. Our server was very knowledgable and explained the philosophy of the owner and restaurant. The food was amazing! The "Cutting Board" was excellent, and featured house cured and prepared meats and cheeses that were some of the best my wife and I had ever had. The flatbread pizza was very good as well. We got an additional side of veggies (locally organically grown, like most food here) which was also stupendous. The veggies including yellow squash, zuccini, corn, green beans, and eggplants. For dessert, my wife and I split a scoop of the chocolate peanut butter ice cream, which included some berries and a wafflecone-esque cup. Completely out of this world! All throughout our meal, servers would stop by very often and ask how we were doing or take our empty dishes. Highest recommendations!

5 Stars: All Around Great Place (by pocachica)

My friends and I tried Whisk & Ladle on a recommendation from a friend. We arrived on a Friday night and sat out on the covered patio. We started by ordering one of the many unusual cocktails on the menu containing everything from lavender to chili peppers. The menu lists the dishes in order of light to heavy dishes. We ordered asparagus, spicy shrimp, flatbread pizza and mussels to start. Everyone was really happy with the variety and freshness of the dishes. I had butternut squash ravioli in a delicious rich and sweet sauce and others tried fish or steak dishes. We thought the ambiance and service was great.

5 Stars: favorite place for late night drinks and friends (by jd105)

A couple of my girlfriends mentioned a cool new restaurant and lounge they had just been to. They suggested that we go there for our next get together. So the other night a couple of us headed there in the later evening to have a few drinks and some late night food. I was surprised to find drinks with ingredients that I had not really seen around town. We all tried to order a different one to get to try all of them. There was a passion fruit sangria, one with smoked pear and vanilla pear with rum, and another with Sweet & Vicious basil rum, watermelon, habanero syrup. We also ordered some of the food off the Happy Hour meeting it was really great too. What a fun night!

5 Stars: Yum Yum Yum (by mbsdcs)

I went here for dinner last week and it was fantastic. We had been quite some time back when it was formerlly Fresh and they have made some beautiful changes to the restaurant as well as with the menu. I had the Golden Grouper which was very flavorful and served with a salsa verde, and my girlfriend went with the ravioli dish which she raved about. Good food and a great atmosphere check this place out!

5 Stars: Best Brunch Menu (by kmc7886)

After hearing some good things about Whisknladle, I decided to take my mother out for lunch there. Because it was a Sunday afternoon we were able to try some of the brunch additions, which ended up being a great discovery. While I stuck to traditional lunch food (I ordered the Grilled Cheese sandwich) my mother got the Rosemary Bacon Waffles. As soon as the server brought our food out we knew we were going to be in for a treat. Both the waffles and the sandwich were unlike anything I have ever tasted before. The infusion apples in both dishes was genius! I definitely plan on going back for dinner and seeing what brilliant pairings they have featured in their entrees!

5 Stars: FRESHEST (by restauranturo)

I've seen their ads claiming to be fresher and I have to say after having been their twice, they are selling themselves short. The food was perfect. Nothing was overdone, just simple, honest and clean flavors. Something you can only pull of when you are using the best possible product like these guys. The wine list was really neat and most definately one of the fairest in town. I was surprised to see some of the usuall high-end suspects on that last for 1/2 the price of what most people charge. The cocktail list was very good but a little too out there for me, but I happen to be a bourbon rocks kinda guy. The service was very good. It certainly wasn't fine dining but everyone there was nice and attentive. The space was so warm and inviting and I can't wait for the weather to warm up so they can keep the awning open all night long. The music was hip and funky but not so loud you couldn't talk without having to lean in, something which I hate. Overall, I'd say its going to be a regular haunt of mine. If you haven't been at all, or haven't been since their rebirth, you're missing out.

5 Stars: Outstanding dinner, great wine, fantastic service and cozy setting (by eligrey)

Upon arriving for our 7pm reservation my wife and I found the restaurant pleasantly buzzing with people. (Hint - we parked under Hotel Parisi and Fresh paid for it!) The hostess sat us right away and our server came within seconds to get us drinks. She was very nice, offering us suggestions from their wine list, which was very cleverly written to clearly describe the wines. We selected a classic, Opus One, which we had seen for double the price in our other favorite restaurants, but saw many affordable prices for all of our favorite vintages. My wife is a light eater so she decided on a salad and grilled mahi mahi. The portions were very nice, big enough to fill her up and small enough to not make her feel guilty for not finishing everything. Her salad really lived up to the restaurant's name being crispy and truly fresh. The fish was grilled perfectly and the accompanying vegetables were very flavorful and colorful. I ordered a duck confit to start, it had a fruity glaze, which I don't remember the name of and the meat was melting off of the bones. It was actually a big portion for an appetizer and I loved it. My main dish was the Steak Frites...even though I love fish I was really in the mood for a great piece of meat. It was perfectly grilled and the fries were done with truffles, which evoked a wonderful tingle in my mouth while eating. We decided for dessert to try their sampling plate which was perfect sizes of everything to clean the pallate and finish off sweet. One of my favorite aspects of the dinner was that we never once had to ask for more water, our wine glasses were always refilled without us noticing and once we placed our order the remainder of the evening was focused on a romantic conversation and marvelling over the flavor of our delicious meals. We live downtown, but love coming into La Jolla and we now have a favorite food spot. I highly recommend Fresh to all of our friends.

5 Stars: Perfect La Jolla lunch (by notasurfer)

We stopped for lunch, and it's just a perfect for that. Lots of seafood on the menu, like aweseom mini tuna burgers, and the patio is peacefull but always buzzing with small groups. Never too loud. I want to go back and try this place for dinner.
