Ratings_icons Best Yoga in Dallas!!

fiorettigina

This studio is great! I have practiced yoga for 8 years, all over the country and this is one of the best studios I have been to! and it is one of the cheapest!! All of the instructors are super friendly and they have their own styles but still maintain the message and strength of the class. I always feel like I get the class I need for the day. It is great for beginners too, all the classes offer modifications. They also have massage and acupuncture .

Pros: teachers are great! parking! lose weight!

Ratings_icons What happened to APY?

APYMember

I am a APY member and could never stop raving about APY. For whatever reason, the APY instructors that I love have either left or significantly reduced their schedules. In their place are brand new APY trainees, some of whom have a lot of potential but are no means comparable to the instructors who have left. Now, everytime I look at the schedule, it is a brand new person teaching and generally a very BASIC class. I leave feeling like I overpaid, annoyed, and not relaxed. Please fix this problem or this APY member is going else where.

Pros: Paid for membership

Cons: The instructors

This used to be a great community yoga studio, where you didn?t mind the sweat puddles on the floor or the ceiling falling down, because the person at the desk or the teacher knew your name. But now it is less about you and more about there bottom line: it is not cheap, the schedule changes too much, most classes are taught by novices, and there is a ?security? camera in the studio to monitor everything you do. Dallas has one of the best yoga communities in the world: great teachers, great spaces, challenging power yoga classes?don?t waste your time with a has-been studio like this where they really are not nice.

Pros: parking

Cons: not power, not yoga

Ratings_icons I cannot say enough great things about APY.

After visiting many of the local yoga studios before claiming a "home", I chose American Power Yoga to develop a practice because of the knowledgeable, friendly, encouraging instructors. APY's philosophy is demonstrated in each class: that each pose isn't bad or good, it just is. In learning to be accepting of where you are in a pose, you are taught to accept each of life's situations as well...that you can breathe through anything, that nothing is worth giving your breath away, to stay present, and to release expectation. Yes, APY provides an intense and powerful workout, but more importantly, the teachers provide an opportunity to understand a way of life, an ability to "let go", and an opportunity to open up to the moment. I highly recommend American Power Yoga, both professionally, as a licensed clinical psychologist, and personally.

Pros: Very friendly, expert Instructors; classes throughout the day; All levels can participate

Cons: sometimes teachers run over an hour...this can be a pro, depending on your schedule

Ratings_icons Yoga for us

This is a very welcoming and non-intimidating studio: once I got up the courage to walk through the door, I never regretted it. The instructors are really knowledgeable and kind--they focus on both the physical and the mental parts of yoga, and never force you into poses or make you feel bad for not getting something "right". Other studios in Dallas made me feel like I had to join a sorority with a special language, poses, clothing and always made me feel like I wasn't good enough. Because the American Power Yoga teachers are so encouraging and respectful, I am able to relax more in class and not focus on trying to keep up and now I can do things I never thought possible! On and off the mat. Lots of classes everyday, and the studio is easy to get to with lots of parking, so no matter where my job takes me I can fit in a great butt-kicking workout almost everyday.

Pros: good prices, lots of classes, easy to get to (just off Central), lots of parking, 1 hour butt-kicking classes

Cons: some instructors don't stay on schedule

After working in a gym for over two years, I was looking for something different. I felt like weight training and running on the treadmilll was helping my body as much as I thought. I did some DVDs at home for yoga and pilates but wanted to try a yoga studio. I did all my research and found that American Power Yoga was exactly what I was looking for and more. I wanted a place with a beautiful, clean, WELCOMING studio where the intrustructors really knew what they were talkin' about and loved teaching and helping others. My schedule is very crazy so I have taken class with almost every instructor at APY and love all of them along with the differences. It's nice to be able to just go to class at the time when I can that day and not have to worry about having a good instructor and a good class. It also helps that they have tons of different times every day so it's very easy to fit in to my schedule. I LOVE APY! I am hooked! I am spoiled! No other yoga studio will do (even the FREE one at my gym where I still work!). It has changed my body in a very short time and has expanded my mind and heart. Namaste APY.

If you want to feel completely energized, athletic, stretchy, taller and so much more, then APY is for you! After taking regular classes at APY for a year (2-3X week) I can honestly say my body is totally changed and, even better, my body image is greatly improved. I wasn't in bad shape to start, but at 40+-years-old the appeal of aerobics, running and the gym was wearing off. APY keeps keeps me toned, burns calories, and helps me feel grounded.

Thanks APY!

Ratings_icons Best group of instructors anywhere!!!!

splendidcatastrophe

I've always been an "at home yogi", practicing alone and in the comfort of my own home with lots ad lots of books and tapes. I tried this studio because it was highly reccommended by some wonderful people from Lululemon Athletica. And boy were they right!! The founder (Kurt Johnson) is absolutely phenominal. I don't know how...but every instructor there manages to pay attention to the intricacies of each and every pose, of each and every student! I feel like the few classes I've been to here thus far have broadened my knowledge more about yoga than all my years of solitary practice and reading!! (and Richardson APY rocks just as much!!) I truly admire Kurt and his electric crew for bringing this into my life, and into the countless other lives they have innevitably touched.

Pros: Everything!! Location, ambiance, guidance...

Cons: I can't think of one.

American Power Yoga has a great, friendly staff. The instructors know what they are talking about and always have time to answer questions. The times are convenient, as are the locations, and price is competitive with any studio in town.

Ratings_icons Best Yoga in Town

KarineCarrier

A friend took me to APY one day, just telling me how great it was. I had tried other yoga places before and didn't really like them. I work in the fitness industry and I know how bad form can hurt you. After my fist hour at APY I knew that I would go back. The teachers give really good instructions (that you can understand!) for every pose and always a choice of modification to make it harder or easier so you really can "customize" your practice. They also walk in the room to correct you if your alignment is off. The flow of each class is wonderful and I really love the mind/body connection. I always leave the room feeling stronger, lighter, happier. My posture has improved a lot and I have learned to breathe better. I would go every day if I could!
I will never thank my friend enough!

Pros: Instructors knowledge, friendly atmosphere

Cons: None

Ratings_icons Hands down, BEST yoga in town!

Mezger

I've been practicing yoga for over 6 years now in the Dallas area and had the fortune to practice with some great teachers. I was referred to APY almost 4 yrs ago and have been 'addicted' ever since! I've had two children duing that time and wouldn't have had such easy labor and delivery experiences had I not been practicing yoga during my pregnancies. Nor could I have bounced back into mental/physical shape so quickly without my yoga!! The teachers are consistent and diverse, provide space and teach focus - I feel like I can challenge my mind, body and spirit in the way that I want to based on that moment. A tough workout, yes! A relaxed hour for me, yes! moments of connection, yes! A physical challenge, yes! What more could you ask for?!

Pros: ambience, teachers, value, class schedule

AmericanPower Yoga is one of the best decisions I've made toward becoming healthier and stronger, both mentally and physically. I wish I had tried it much sooner. The atmosphere is very friendly and the instructors are versatile in their teaching approach so there's something for everyone. All my aches and pains are long gone since beginning this practice and I feel like a new person. I can't stop telling friends and co-workers about how great it is! The flow of this practice is beautiful, it's very accessible to beginners and seasoned practitioners and you owe it to yourself to give it a try.

Pros: Great instructors, classes are convenient

Cons: None

Ratings_icons lovin' APY nights!!!

yogagirldallas

American Power Yoga is one of the most amazing yoga studios in Dallas! They have this amazing event every Thursday night throughout August and September called APY nights that is so fabulous. I went to the inversion workshop with Brianna Norton (one of their amazing instructors) and had the greatest time learning how to do all kinds of fun inversions. The night was filled with lots of sweat and lots of laughs...we all had an awesome time...thanks APY
