I am a belly dance student at Alegria and I know that Nery is strict and likes things done correctly. That is her job, to teach you right! I have met the instructor outside of the classroom and she is a very sweet and kind person.
She has always helped me when I am not getting a step and during class I have seen her go to EVERY student making sure they have the right position and if you are not getting it Nery will help you out.

It is unfortunate that ?Beethoven? had a bad experience at Alegria but don?t judge the wonderful institute on the experience of one student because there are hundreds more that love the place and enjoy the classes.

The wonderful women that run this studio love what they do so much, they are very passionate about dance and so are the instructors.

Visit Alegria and you will feel right at home.

I have been with this company for a couple of years. I have enjoyed every minute of it. I have dedicated all of my time to belly dance and the instructor. Nery has shown just how much knowledge of dance she has, by dedicating her time to all of the students. If you are looking for individual instruction, you will get it. She makes sure that all steps are learned and is very picky on the the technique. You have to work hard and show the talent. Belly dance is an important part of Nery's life and she will do what she can to teach all of her students. Trust me....no workout videos were ever involved when she was learning. Also, there is no favortism. If you show that you are there to dance, then all is well, but if you are there to goof off and play, then this is not the place for you. Beethoven.....I am sorry that you are the only one that seems to have a problem. You should have said something. When you realize what went wrong with your situation, we would love to have you back! As for everyone else.... please, come and join us. You will see just how much fun and hard we work there is.

The Alegria Studio is the premiere dance studio in Houston. The instructors are nothing short of amazing and awe-inspiring. I have been at this studio for about 1 1/2 years now and the difference it has made in my dancing is amazing. I have personally seen women who have been dancing for years improve ten-fold after a few short weeks at Alegria.

If you are flamenco dancer or an aspiring flamenco dancer THIS is the place to be. I tried 3 studios before this but quit everytime because I couldn't find the inspiration or pace I needed. Every Flamenco dancer in Houston needs to take a class here.

This is a wonderful place to dance, make friends and be inspired. Alegria will make you feel like you are part of, not only the Houston artistic community, but a family.

I am very particular about where I take classes so I took some workshops in the studio, got to know the owner and the students, and I went to see one of their performances. WOW. I decide to join last year.

The level of dance that you will get is great. The style for flamenco in this studio is more current with flamenco trends in Spain and other parts of the U.S.
Laura likes to stay true to the flamenco form.
Chris has a lot of energy and great attitude in her dance (I enjoy her tangos) and Gracie is very sweet with the kids in class.

One of the cool things is that for flamenco performances and showcases Laura likes to use live musicians, palmeros and even a singer.
Her student showcases are well put together and the students shine in each performance. She really places attention to detail.

They get really beautiful costumes for the students, (some of them ordered in Spain and others made locally). They asked us our opinion about type of dress, material and cost before deciding which one to get.

And last but not least, my classmates have been great, they are all very sweet and they have made me feel welcome. They are an incredible group of ladies.

Through the years (I did research on them years ago) I have seen the dancing level of the students grow exponentially. I wish I had a place like this when I started dancing.

I just love Alegria-Arts dance studio! I have taken flamenco for a few years at another studio and it's until now that I feel like I'm learning flamenco, what I mean is I could dance before, but I had not clue about the structure of flamenco, I could not recognize the palos, etc. I have learned a lot in a very short time that I have been with Alegria-Arts dance studio and look forwards to all the classes that I have signed in! including "Belly dance" with Nery, which I find is a beautiful caring person, and an excellent teacher!!!! I met her a few years back when I tried to hired her for teaching at my own dance studio, and my impresion of her..... nice..giving...caring person.. beautiful person! and I love how she teaches, that's why I wanted her to work in my studio, but unfortunatelthe studio was too far for her. I'm looking forwards to all my "UNLIMITED" classes that I'll be taking at Alegria Dance.I also look forwards to seeing the new friends that I have made, which they make me feel already as part of the family>
Thank you Laura and you really really inspired me to get better and better... and I Love all the classes there!
Ole....Guapas!!!

I see Beethoven is mainly angry at the belly dance here. I wonder if she/he/it has even tried out any of the flamenco classes offered at Alegria before she/he/it was so quick to judge about them. I haven't taken any flamenco classes but just by seeing the recital this past weekend I was totally amazed and it has inspired me to take more classes from Alegria.

I also wonder if Beethoven even talked to the belly dance instructor about the problems that she/he/it may have had. If she/he/it did, then they need to make it clear on their review before leaving on here such a one sided review.

Wow!! It looks like this person is really angry.
May I remind you that the belly dance class you see in this video was a free class because it was going to be recorded. We all got emails and notices advising us that the images would be used for advertisements.
I think you exaggerate a little about the so called 'hidden fees' you claim. As any other dance studio, this studio has class fees and rehearsal fees. Did you never ask what was required before agreeing to be a part of the student showcase, which is entirely optional?
Finally, I have never seen a belly dance teacher that is as patient and as professional as the one in this institute. She is a really good performer and helps every student with each individual moves. She might not 'count'; but she sure teaches you how to listen to the music and how to actually dance. If you are upset, maybe you should talk to the studio instead of spreading things that are not true.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing to the comments left by Beethoven. If there were any problems with the teacher NO ONE said ANYTHING TO the INSTRUCTOR DIRECTLY about the problems. Until you told the teacher the problems and given her a chance to change then you can say she was horrible or whatever. This was a very rude and cowardly attack at someone. In life your given chances to change. If you have a problem with someone you need to at least give them a chance to change or let them know that what they did was wrong.

Listen, I've seen A LOT of flamenco out there and A LOT of flamenco instruction. First off, Laura has got to be the BEST flamenco dancer in Houston and has some of the best mentors and instructors in the world (including SPAIN.) She is continuously learning and passing this knowledge on to her students. Laura as well as the other instructors truly want their students to learn. If you truly want to learn flamenco, Alegria is the best!

The fact that someone could say the about this studio is so upsetting. It is run by some of the most talented, giving, strong, influential women I have ever had the privilege to know.
I know the passion and the love the instructors of Alegria Dance Studio give to their students and this is obviously coming from someone who does not consider the feelings of others.
I see your pros are croissants and your cons are no AC. I think what you are looking for is an air conditioned doughnut shop, not a dance studio.

Dont let the video fool you! Students were not informed that this video would even be posted on the net. Alegria is the worst dance school in the whole of Houston. If you are looking for Flamenco, they have decent teachers for that, but I am pretty sure its not the best. But if you are trying to get into bellydance, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! The so called "Belly Dance" Instructor obviously learned from those work out instructional videos on "How to bellydance" She is selfish, rude, and offensive. She plays favoritism, and has serious control issues. I noticed something was wrong the very first class I took there, and the longer i stayed I began to notice other problems piling up. First off, this place is a rip off, there are hidden fee's, and they charge you for each rehearsal you attend for practice. They dont explain anything in detail, but tell you things at the last minute, in a way that you have to just shut up and deal with it. They are also very good at scamming you into signing up for multiple classes. The bellydance instructor will make it sound like she is upgrading you to a higher level class, then will tell you in order to be in that one you have to sign up for another class because the two go together (which is not true). The time that I wasted there, I honestly went backwards. After going to another instructor, I noticed that I learned more in one week of class than I ever did at Alegria. If you decide try them, just know that you have been warned...
