Reviews for The Barn Family Shoe Store

Ratings_icons Like a shoe supermarket

My husband grew up going here but on my first trip I was a bit overwhelmed. The selection is HUGE. It is mostly practical shoes, rather than fashionista stuff. The staff is almost frighteningly knowledgeable about shoes and really helpful.

Ratings_icons My doctor told me the best place to find shoes is The Barn Family Shoe Store.

After two years of suffering with foot issues, my doctor told me the best place to find shoes is The Barn Family Shoe Store. I am so grateful for his advice. When I first walked in, I was amazed at the number of styles available in each quality brand. As I browsed around, I was equally impressed with the number of Sales people and the knowledge they expressed to customers with various concerns. Skeptically, I explained my problem to Dave. He quickly proposed 5 different shoes that might ease my foot pain. He explained in detail why he chose each shoe and as I gave him feedback, he directed me to other alternatives. With his patience and vast knowledge of the options we quickly found not one but two pairs of shoes that relieve my pain. The Barn has such a great selection of so many quality brands of shoes and great service. Why would anyone shop for shoes anywhere else?

Ratings_icons "a shoe and winter boot shopping extravaganza"

GayleT

My family of four just experienced a shoe and winter boot shopping extravaganza at The Barn Family Shoe Store! We went into The Barn hoping for the best, and the best is what happened. Even my finicky teenagers were excited with all the popular brand name shoes and boots that were all around us. We had a super shopping experience at The Barn, and I highly recommend this place to one and all!

Pros: variety for everyone

Ratings_icons great local shoe store

emass

When we moved to Newton more than 10 years ago our friends and neighbors gave us a list of the stores in the area that we should be sure to check out. When it came to shoe stores, they all said that The Barn was the place to go. We followed their advice and went there then for shoes for the entire family. We were very happy with the selection, brands, service, and the store itself. Years later we are still getting our shoes there and are now recommending it to our new friends in the neighborhood.

Ratings_icons Real Customer Service!

CarlyB1

I had not been to The Barn since my mother took me there for Back to School shoes. What a great surprise to find after 10 years it's still there and better than ever. My childhood memory was of a big store, but the selections and number of brands seemed even bigger now.
Best of all, they still have the same great sales staff, who are helpful, knowledgeable and really wait on you to make sure you get what you are looking for.
Plan on going back more often now!

Pros: great selection, my size (large), and great service

Cons: can't think of any

Ratings_icons Not just a "shoe store"...

LoveMyManolos

The Barn is not just a store, it's an institution - it's amazing how everyone knows this place! My mother brought me to The Barn when I was young and now I bring my family (it's nice to have consistency!). And consistent is what The Barn is - great selection, excellent customer service (helpful but not the least bit pushy), fair prices and tremendous atmosphere. The adult side is almost cozy - with plenty of seats to either try shoes on or just relax for a minute. Our eldest daughter (10) asked for a pair of Uggs last winter - we were a bit reluctant but The Barn had her size and a great price - so it was tough to say no. We highly recommend The Barn -

Ratings_icons Unbelievably bad customer service

MassAppeal

Something is terribly wrong in this store but I don't know what it is. They seem to hate customers and the mangement seems to think that's O.K. The shoes are good but in the women's department the customer service is beyond terrible. I'm looking at these ratings because I've had a couple of terrible experiences and I do not want to go back. On my last trip, the clerk in the women's department was rude and hostile. She was ignorant about the stock and was either too stupid or lazy to understand what I wanted to buy. She was verbally abusive. She mocked me to the other sales clerks within my hearing. As others have described, she became actively hostile when I tried to help myself, - e.g. telling me I had to make up my mind what I wanted , that I can't take things out or try them on, and she followed me around watching me like a hawk to make sure that I did not separate the tie between the two shoes so that I could try to take full steps while I walked in them. She then removed the three pairs of shoes that I had put aside to buy because I was "making a mess." It was a truly unbelievable experience and needless to say I want to find another place to buy shoes.

Ratings_icons Terrible customer service

CatherineNewton

Yesterday was my first visit to the Barn shoe store. While the selection of shoes is great, the service my daughter and I received was horrible. We found a pair of shoes we both liked and were having difficulty finding her size. I asked one of the sales people if they had any other sizes in the back she replied no, everything is out. Then I looked below the display and found a box with my daughters shoe size. After taking the box out I was rudely yelled at across the store by the older woman behind the counter "Don't do that, all the sizes are out!" Frustrating to say the least. I wish I had walked out of the store at that time. Then I tried on a pair of shoes and was approached by a sales associate who proceeded to tell me about his second marriage, how his kids are so mean to him and call him mean names, how they only want his money, how he owns 4 homes, etc, etc, etc. It was the most BIZARRE experience I have ever had in a store. When I then told him I was not going to buy the shoes I tried on he was completely agitated and was rude to us as we left the store. I will NEVER shop at the Barn again. Terrible service!

Pros: None

Cons: Horrendous customer service

Ratings_icons Best shoe collection around

Dimcn

I remember going to The Barn as a kid with my mom and aunt. I recently relocated to the area, and took a ride there to check it out, and was amazed at the great adult shoe collection they have. I like "good brand" shoes, and I found all of my favorites there--clogs, sandals, and comfy dress shoes--and so many different styles. The staff was inviting, but not pushy, and seemed to be having as much fun as I was. I love this place--and it reminds me of my childhood as they still had those metal foot measuring tools!

Pros: Customer service, selection, parking

Cons: You've got to find it.

Ratings_icons A happy customer for over 25 years!

BarbieW

"I've been a happy customer of the BARN for over 25 years. For me it's a great, relaxed, no pressure 'one stop shopping' right in my neighborhood--whether I'm looking for a pair of CROCS, a pair of dressy shoes or anything in between including clothing--I can always be sure to find what I'm looking for. The store is always, clean, orderly, well stocked and the staff is knowledgeable, helpful and polite. I want to thank the great staff for all of their help and honest advice over the years!"

Great time saver, everything all in one place, - shoes, sneakers, boots, socks, swinsuits, shorts. And the staff is really helpful -- they actually wait on you!

Ratings_icons Very Disappointed

deeconradio

I was disappointed in this shoe store. I had trouble finding what I wanted and the children's shoes were over-priced! Plus, don't be fooled by the "lenient" return policy. When I tried to return a $50 pair of child's shoes that my son had for one day and wore in the house only, they turned me down - citing a loose thread in a seam (probably there when I bought it!).

I will definitely not be back!

Pros: parking

Cons: lousy customer service, high prices
