Bayou City Farmers Market

Great place to shop and mingle. You can find all kinds of local produce, dairy, baked goods and home made craft. Great place to bring the kids and partake in the fresh samples!

Having recently relocated to the Houston area from Southern California where there are multiple farmers markets every day of the week, each with 20 or more vendors, I can see that the Houston area markets have a long way to go to catch up and I hope that they soon will.

This market had about 15 to 20 vendors, most with produce, not a lot of variety, but at least there was some organic produce and a few less common items, such as long beans and zucchini blossoms. The prices were reasonable to high - no bargains here - just good, farm fresh produce. There were also vendors selling cheese, meat, eggs, and some craft items.

Visit your local farmers markets! The more people visit, the more farmers will participate. There's no reason why Houston can't have a farmers market that rivals the famous Santa Monica Organic Farmers' Market.
