Beer, as dark & wonderful as the universe itself. Food is good too. Ignore criticism about the ambience, it's about the beer = awesome.

I enjoy coming here. I think the service must have gotten much better since some of these older reviews because my server was attentive and the food was good. I would suggest sticking to the bar staples and maybe not the entrees so much,

In early April my husband and I were honeymooning all across OR and hitting as many brewpubs as possible along the way. Our last day of a two week tour brought us to Deschutes in Portland. We were staying at the International Hostel in the Pearl district and had sooooooo many choices for lunch we were almost dizzy. Missing the opportunity to try this place out while in Bend we had one last shot. Lucky decision for us!!!!! First, the decor was fabulous sporting high celings with gothic like iron chandeliers, a first class bar with any and every kind of FANTASTIC flavors of some of the best beer in the state!! The columns of huge tree trunks that enveloped the entire restaraunt and bar area were skillfully carved into wildlife and landscape scenes indiginous to the area...very impressive!!! The waitstaff was super friendly and quickly brought my lovely taster tray of 6 award winning brews. I'm in HEAVEN!!!!! We were eating light because we wanted to try out other places that same day so Larry ordered the steamer clams and I the special of the day. I can't remember what it was called but it wasn't on the regular menu. I do recall (and could NEVER forget) that it was a mac & cheese consisting of cavatappi pasta, a BUTTLOAD of local crabmeat, Tillamook white cheddar with a dollop of basil pesto perched atop. OMG they don't have any thing like that back home in the VA mtns!!! I was worried that I was going to have to divorce my husband of 2 weeks if he didn't keep his hands off my plate....seriously, I was like a rabid dog. I finally conceded to swap out some of his clams for a few bites from my bowl of manna but he ended up with the better end of THAT deal. I'm not saying that the clams weren't great but in comparison...well, you get the picture. When the tab came we looked it over and agreed that the prices were average for this type of establishment although they should have charged a million dollars for that mac & cheese!!!!! Oh, a little extra perk...the brewmasters were doing a tasting while we were there and that was pretty neat to watch (although they wouldn't let my husband join in :0 ) You have to try this place out!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband and I visited here last night. He sticks to gluten-free food and drink but I don't.\r

This place is awesome? even if you don??t like beer! The Pearl has so many options, but this one is definitely not to be overlooked. The food is basic pub fare, but with a little bit more. I typically get the Smoked Chicken Chop Salad, which is amazing. It has fresh avocado, chopped chicken, smoked bacon and cute little bread points. There is tons of beer to drink, and buy ?? including some huge Growler that holds 2 liters of your favorite Deschutes beer. The wait staff is knowledgeable about their food (and beer), as well as incredible helpful and friendly.

Pros: Good beer, good location

You've got to try their pretzel with the cheese and mustard sauce. It is SO good. We also tried their veggie burger last time and it was delicious as well. I don't drink but my husband thinks they have the best beer around!

We ate here last night and it was big let down. We ordered a flight of beers to sample and the BBQ chicken pizza. That was the worst pizza I have ever had. I have had frozen pizza that was better than this. Some guy brought it to our table

Nice looking restaurant in the Pearl. Food is excellent, but the beer is outstanding. The BBQ pork sandwich is to die for... covered with onion straws and slaw on a cheddar roll. Wash it down with the Black Butte Porter. You can also look in on the brewery to see how the beer is made.

I?m not the type that usually complains about a restaurant, but I had to post about the new Deschutes Pub in the Pearl. Before I went, the reputation around the Pearl was that the service was pretty bad but that usually doesn?t stop me
