Excellent choice for vegan/vegetarians around the Northwestern campus. I usually get the Mongolian beef, but I have been told by numerous friends that everything else on the menu is insanely good too. I love the bakery as well, and usually end up bringing something home every time I go. Excellent place, keep up the good work!

The Blind Faith Cafe has been around since 1978. It has become an Evanston landmark! In the past 30 years, through the waning ??hippie? days of the '70s, the beef-crazy days of the '80??s, and the ever so ??PC? '90??s, the Blind Faith Cafe has managed not only to keep it's doors open, but flurish. It's a great place to eat, even if your not vegetarian. There is something for everyone. You can enjoy the bakery they have now and just sit with tea and enjoy yourself in a community environment.

Blind Faith Cafe is ever changing and yet so many things are familiar to us old hippies. You have to try it at least once!

I recently went to the Blind Faith Cafe and thought it was a wonderful experience. There was a short(Less than 10 minute) wait, but the hostess was constantly reassuring me that a table was almost ready. We aren't often able to find a lot of vegetarian food to eat, so the large menu was a relief. All items were vegetarian or vegan and compared to any restaurant in Pittsburgh, BFC had at least three times the amount of vegetarian options, We ordered a berry banana smoothie, I got the seitan quesadilla and my girlfriend ordered the pear and goat cheese salad. The food was delicious and well presented, much nicer than the name let on. The waitress was also extremely hospitable. I almost drowned with how often she refilled my glass of water, and she didn't mind at all when she brought out our dessert and my girlfriend said she was allergic to nuts and asked for something else. The vegan chocolate cake with raspberry was delicious! I would love to come back here, the only part that I didn't like about it was how far I had to travel from the loop to get here

For amazing vegetarian food and a wonderful, welcoming atmosphere you must come to Blind Faith. It has a great menu full unique vegetarian and vegan dishes using all natural ingredients. Everyone is really friendly and the food is so delicious. The hummus platter is a great start. The blind faith burger and the corn and potato enchiladas are awesome. There is also a bakery attached.

Yes it is vegetarian, but please please please do not let this stop you from going to this restaurant. They have some amazingly delicious dishes, including some veggie spins of mexican classics [my favorites!] Their chocolate and peanut butter bar is to die for!!! And their coffee is really good too. Check them out!

I have a difficult time understanding how anyone could give Blind Faith Cafe anything less that a 'Highly Recommended' review. I've been a vegetarian for almost ten years and find the food and the service at Blind Faith to be excellent. Living over an hour from Blind Faith, we usually go for special occasions or when we're in the area. We've been about ten times over the past three years. My favorite dish was the enchiladas which are delicious, but now I can't get enough of the mongolian stir fry. The chocolate peanut butter cake is TO DIE FOR! It's also great to try their specials of the day. My husband and I took our friend from Maryland who has been a vegetarian for over 25 years and a very picky eater. We picked him up from the airport and sped all the way to Blind Faith, hoping we'd make it before they closed. When we got there, they had already closed there dining area, but seated us anyway and we received absolutely expectional service for the next hour and a half. Our server never tried to rush us out; he was helpful and very friendly. The manager even came out and gave us all peanut butter chocolate cake on the house. My husband and our friend both had the special of the day which was a Honey Mustard seitan with veggies and purple mashed potaoes. It was absolutely delicious! I ate off their plates as much as I ate from my own. Now, everytime our friend comes to visit, we HAVE to eat at Blind Faith at least once during his visit. On his last visit, he took back a whole peanut butter cholocate cake! BLIND FAITH CAFE IS A MUST TRY!! I think you will love. The service is great, the food is out of this world! Almost forgot...YOU MUST TRY THE VEGGIE CRAB CAKES....YUMM!!

This is my first message and to be honest, I moved from Austin where it is like vegan heaven and excited to find this place near campus. I am in graduate school so my money has to go a long way. My roommate and I both eat there and we both got totally different meals and we both got sick. I am talking sensational gas and diarreha. I will definitely go back next time I need a good cleanse...and not in a good way either. It is too bad that the owners of this place can't take their job more seriously. It is about peace and nutriution and if your employees do not feel the same way, then you should fire them or have them eat a piece of meat as their punishment.

Pros: The concept is great

Cons: The food is a laxative

I would highly recommend to anyone anything on the breakfast menu. There are hearty portions and great homemade salsa for the chilaquiles (an egg or tofu, salsa, and tortilla dish). I heard that there is a new chef in town and it sounds like he is mixing it up a little bit. I saw some quiches in the self-serve side that looked amazing.

Just a word about the credit card issue the reviewer before claimed to have. Some credit card companies (Visa for sure), will automatically add a certain dollar amount for tip if you are eating at a restuarant. Since this amount is usually added on at a later time than the original transaction, the company wants to make certain that you have the credit available to make the sum-total of the transaction. Therefore, they will include the tip for you. If you eat on the self-serve side, and presumably do not leave a tip, which I find more than a little offensive, since those folks work pretty hard, too, then you will find, if you call in the next day or so, that your card will be charged for a gratuity you did not give. However, by the time of your billing statement, the zero you originally placed on the line will have re-appeared in the arithmetic. Please call your card company for details rather than making hurtful accusations of theft.

Pros: Good veggie options, nice free magazine selection, awesome desserts

This restaurant is one of my favorites! I enjoy the chocolate cake. I have to get two slices whenever I go. However, I have gained no weight from this, amazingly so. I love the food and it is definitely a restaurant I take my friends to for dining. I live on the South Side, but I commute to Evanston for the food. Everything on the meny is wonderful, no matter what you order. I personally do not care for the spicy foods, but everything else is defintely worth it. The service is world-class and the chef is often in the restaurant. The ambience is great as well. Qualtiy Quality Quality!
Best,
TMT

Good food (Not the greatest, Quite expensive and they will help themselves to your credit card for tips should you pay with a credit card. I bought a salad and Rice combo and it came out to $19.18, quite expensive. Upon checking my bank statement the following day, Blind faith Cafe in Evanston helped themselves to an additional $5.00. This was a walk in and take out order. No service involved.

I will never go there again and I will definitely discourage anyone else from dining at this restaurant.

The bakery here serves wonderful baked goods made from organic products and okay for even your vegan friends. It's nice having such quality products that I can bring to my friends with alternative eating habits. I'm not as enthusiastic about the attached restaurant, which I find to be overdone. My vegetarian friend thinks it's the best restaurant he's ever been to, so maybe I just didn't order well. The bakery is top notch though.

The food definitely LOOKED good. However, we werent able to find out about the taste firsthand because no one would serve us! We walked in parched, tired and hungry, after visiting the Evanston lakefront on a sweltering day. We stood for what seemed an eternity waiting to be seated as staff roamed about, blithely ignoring us. One waitress looked our way, then proceeded to chat up the folks at one of her tables. Two other guys stood behind a counter looking at us, but doing nothing. Another server walked past, never to reemerge. Were not going back.

I registered for citysearch so I could comment on this place.

This was the worst restaurant I've ever been to in my life. Ever.

The food is terrible at this place--tasteless, bland, and extremely expensive. I paid $4 for a bowl of tomato soup that was worse than campbell's from the can. I used to be a vegetarian, and I love vegetables, but they have no idea how to use them. the tamales --the special--were so bland that I couldn't eat both.

I talked to about 20 people who said the same thing--they'd been to the Blind Faith Cafe once and would never return. I agree. This restaurant sucks.

We were there for probably 20 minutes after we finished eating, because our waiter disappeared, and then forgot to bring us our bill for another 10 minutes after we had him summoned.

An utterly regrettable experience--I want my $25 back.

Though I'm not a vegetarian, I love Blind Faith Cafe. If you're willing to try new things, you'll be surprised by how flavorful the food is. They even have a wide variety of deserts! The service is always fast, friendly, and informed. Blind Faith is a healthful alternative to your everyday American cuisine.

Great selection of vegetarian foods but on the expensive side. No kids menu makes it an expensive place to bring kids but if you're sans kids, it's a great place for breakfast or lunch. Service is friendly and attentive.

Close to the lakefront in Evanston this cafe/bakery offers a variety of gourmet delights. There is a wonderful selection of breads and pastrys. They offer lactose free deserts as well.
There cafe menu also includes Thai food, a selection of teas and coffees. They also offer beers of many varietys. Pick up a t-shirt with their logo on there to celebrate your Blind Faith experience.

Blind Faith Cafe is one of my favorite restaurants. If you're trying something new, go for the Mongolian StirFry or the Thai Peanut Noodles. The BBQ seitan is also delicious. I do not recommend the Macrobiotic Plate -- bland, bland, bland.
However, as a vegan, I'm not sure I'd recommend the restaurant to many non-vegetarians. The menu throws "strange" words like tempah or seitan in the descriptions without much of an explaination, so the only thing non-veggies are likely to recognize is the cheese ravioli.
Also, I wouldn't recommend the breakfast menu for vegans. Most of it is egg- and cheese- based, and even with substitutions, you'll only be able to get a small selection.
The atmosphere is very calming and it's easy to carry on a conversation wherever you go. I've found the servers to be very helpful.
So, go for lunch or dinner -- you won't regret it!
