We had reserved a king room and were unaware of the difference between the Annex and Lux. Based on the website, there was no difference in rooms. Upon arrival, we were told that they were sold out of King rooms and the only room available was a double in the annex. We were annoyed, that our room was sold out because they "overbooked" king rooms, but got no where with the front desk staff because they were rude and just didn't care. WE walked down to our room in the annex and were horrified. It smelled awful the minute we opened the door, the furniture looked like it was salvaged from an old seedy motel, the carpet was WET, there were no closet doors and the bathroom was old, moldy, had peeling paint and was dirty. After several calls and visits to the front desk and management, nothing transpired but paid valet parking and a horrible night's sleep. The next morning we were given our king room in the Luxe, which was like a different world and more along the lines of what was expected. Overall, the customer service at this hotel was poor, the linens and towels were stained, the beach service ran out of chairs and umbrellas by noon, and they mislead you on their website. The "annex" should just be closed as it is uninhabitable and the pools are not that nice.

This is going to be a very mixed review as I saw two very different sides to this hotel as I stayed in two different rooms. However I based all of my ratings on the first night we stayed as I feel that is appropriate to give you the best picture and it is what the hotel deserves.

So The first night we arrive to the hotel and see a big new tower right above the main lobby that looked beautiful. After we checked in we were told to walk down a long hallway away from that nice tower to get to our room in another building. After a 10 minute elevator ride because they clearly had not updated those either, we arrive to our room to find a room that looked nothing like the pictures and essentially felt like a seedy motel room with a nice bed. The 19" TV looked like it was from the 80's and the drawers were probably bought along with that TV in the same time period. The bathroom looked old and run down but they did put a new shower curtain on to try to make it look nicer. Nothing about that room was appealing to me in fact I have paid $50 for rooms nicer than this one that cost me six times that! My girlfriend went as far as to say that the room "depressed her" and this was our anniversary.

The next day we were checking into a different room with two bed as our two friends were joining us for that evening. When they tried to put us in another room down the hall that cost an additional $150... I lost it. After much arguing with the front desk girl who apologized saying that the back hotel had not been fully renovated and they haven't put pictures up on the internet of the rooms. Then I escalated this to the manager, Gary who continued to try to make me pay for an upgrade. After fully disclosing my disgust and dissatisfaction in his hotel and threatening to write the review I'm writing now he finally agreed to "upgrade" me at no additional cost to the "luxe" hotel (which is what you see pictures of) however they had no rooms with two queen beds as I paid for so the manager Gary promised me that they would give me a queen sized roll away. After verifying 3 or 4 times that this bed would fit two grown adults we went to the new room, which was much nicer and exactly what I expected in the first place, but then up comes a twin sized roll away which clearly couldn't fit two people and the hotel attendant said this was the only size they had at the hotel.

Back down to the front desk. Now I speak to a different manager and she said they had a cancelation on a room with two queen beds in the Luxe tower and they put us in that one. So after much headache and arguing we were finally in the room we paid for minus being scammed for the first night.

My recommendation to you is do not stay in this hotel as it is over priced. Stay in another hotel and come hang out at The Chelsea's rooftop pool and fifth floor which was very nice. That is clearly where all the money went for renovations, unfortunately not to the other half of the rooms in the hotel.

I feel I was robbed and for the price I paid for this hotel for two nights I could had a flight and hotel in Las Vegas for four nights at a hotel that far surpasses the quality of the hotel I just wasted my money on, actually there is no comparison between the two. Please rethink what you are about to do and avoid the nightmare I just went through.

Pros: 5th floor pool and bar

Cons: price, room quality, dishonesty of the pictures on the web

We stayed one night at The Chelsea. We got a pretty good rate and a nice room. The prices were lower than at many other hotels in Atlantic City, and the location is just as good. The hotel has no casino but is within walking distance of many casinos, the closest being the Tropicana right around the corner. The front desk staff and the valets were nice and helpful. Our room looked just like the picture to the left on this page--a little too 1970s-looking but in good condition. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was really nice, and we had a great view of the ocean from our window. There are bars and a restaurant on the first and fifth floors, but we did not eat there. We were happy with the stay at the hotel and would return to stay there again.

This hotel is a nice addition to the Atlantic City hotel scheme. The lobby is gorgeous with a hospitable staff. The restaurants were delicious. The beds were also comfortable. In addition, the children had a great time at their spa. Definitely worth a shot!

I loved the idea behind this place. I was annoyed the web site told me one charge was to be charged and get my bill and there was a different charge. The customer service rep promised to call me back and never did. The elevators were horribly slow. We were told while we were there that the restaurants were open and they were not. The staff was toooo attentive at the pool to the point it was annoying. And the people in the pool needed to get a room. They were not ready to handle the opening they should not have opened. The front desk computers were not working and could not print..

I have visited this hotel on two separate occasions so far. While some areas of the hotel have yet to be completed, I must say that what has been opened so far is absolutely outstanding! The rooms are plush and the mini bar is both fun and a great touch. Make sure to check out the 5th floor bars and especially their steak house "Chelsea Prime" It might very well serve up the best steaks in AC.

Some other nice points - excellent beach service and hospitable staff.

There are a few kinks to work out, but clearly this hotel is "must see" (and be seen) kind of place. I will definitely be back.

Just minutes away from the Atlantic City boardwalk, the Chelsea features 330 rooms and 12 suites. The guestrooms are divided into two types: Luxe, most with ocean views; and Lite, most overlooking the hotel's saltwater pool. The rooms…
