If you are looking for brilliant artwork on your skin, the guys at Black 13 are the people to see. If you would like to feel comfortable, welcomed, and not rushed, then please go somewhere else. \n\nThe artwork Ian did on me gets compliments everywhere I go. He is a very nice man and very professional. Unfortunately, dealing with the different individuals that answer the phones is a different story.\n\nI am a student, so when my funds ran low I cancelled my appointments. I was able to secure one final appointment, however it was just a small piece. This appeared to give some of the guys license to talk down to me when we were conducting business over the phone and in person.\n\nThat being said, would I recommend them on the basis of their work, heck yeah! Have I recommended them? Yes, but it has ended in disaster. Almost every friend and/or associate that I have recommended has left them to go to other artists around the area because they've felt uncomfortable and rudely handled.\n\nSo, as stated before, phenomenal work but bad manners.

I am not creative enough or ambitious enough to write two different reviews so im using the same terrible review i used on a different review website... sorry \n\nI recently planned a vacation around going to nashville to get tattooed by TimmyB(a birthday gift to myself)...\nI live in MA and TN isnt exactly a day trip. This shop is pretty different than some of the other tattoo shops i have been in previously. The firs thing i noticed was how it was tucked away on the interior of a building, totally confused me. The next thing was the smell when you walked in the door. No idea what plug in stuff the use but it smells amazing. Lastly(there was more but im already going to make this too long) was the Music... very... interesting mix, i say this as a good thing, the music was everything i think at one point it went from the jackson 5 to some death metal with heavy guitar and double bass and what have you...What does all this have to do with tattoos? nothing... nothing at all. But it was certainly a + to my experience \n\nWhen timmyb showed me what he had drawn up it was exactly what i had asked for. This dude does some quality work. After the 8 or 9 hours i was there for i had a really fantastic chunk or art on my arm. The only complain i have about my entire visit was how brutal the chair i was in was. Its not often you get tattood for a long period of time and find more pain in your tail bone than in the fresh raw tattoo.\n\nWas my trip to nashville worth it? YES!\n\nWould i do it again? Sadly i am not made of money and work is difficult to accommodate multiple days off in a row so i probably will not be able to but i certainly would have tim do his thing and claim another chunk of skin as his canvas.\n\nWould i force a friend to go here over anywhere else? your damn right i would... again the distance would probably prevent this.\n\nOh one more thing... White hotel sheets and comforters and pillows dont look so nice when you wake up the day after the tattoo.... the plastic wrap did not make it through the night :/

From the time I got here to the time I left they were nothing but amazing. They worked with my design and turned it not only into something better, but something that I seriously enjoyed having done.\r\n\r\nRyan Thomas is an awesome guy and he is so talented. I really enjoyed being tattooed by him, and I don't want to go anywhere else after this tattoo. \r\n\r\nI had a pretty insane 6 hour rib tattoo. I felt comfortable and at home the whole time.\r\n\r\nProfessional shop. Professional artists. Laid back and homey feel. I will never go anywhere else. Definately worth the 2 hour drive.

Black 13 is beyond any tattoo parlor I have entered, the atmosphere was so upscale and had such creative style. I was greeted by everyone in the shop and it made me feel like I had been there before even though it was my first time. Josh Woods was the artist for my tattoo and I must say I LOVE it!!! He was such an awesome person to have met, he has style and a great sense of humor. I would recommend this shop to anyone that I encounter, I believe that each artist there has a style of thier own and whatever you are wanting in a design in a tattoo you will find a great tattoo artist here. The best there is........hands down...

They charge $100 to schedule an appointment and then refuse to refund your money even if you cancel way in advance. I've never been to a business that not only took your money for an appointment, but then refused to give it back.

Just a great frickin experience. Doy is about the most approachable person you'll meet; and the artists are second to none! I provided an idea and Josh ran with it. \r\nIf you're looking for ink and in Nashville - don't hesitate to visit; this is one great place.

Black 13 is THE place to get all your tattoo work done! I started over 2 years ago researching on where to get a memorial tattoo of my dad who passed in 2007. Every tattoo shop in the Nashville area except Black 13 had some kind of horror stories in the reviews I read. All my research kept sending me to Black 13. They have award winning artist that can do anything you can dream up. The atmosphere is so relaxing and friendly. And the professionalism is over the top. Steve Martin was the artist that did my tattoo. He did an EXCELLENT job on the portrait of my dad. It's AMAZING. I'm going back for another session to add a second part to it and I can't wait. If you want a piece of art on your body, this is the place. They have true ARTIST at Black 13. Every tattoo is customized just for you. Nashville is lucky to have a group of such talented artist in one shop. Thanks guys for a great experience. I look forward to many more!!!!!

black 13 is an awesome shop. this is coming from someone who is around alot of tattoo shops and frequently hangs out in them. i would have to say black 13 is by far my favorite. its a great mix of amazing artists very clean and comfortable atmosphere. in my opinion being comfortable is the one of the most important factors when deciding on an establishment to get work done. obviously second to the work of the artists, which at this shop is nothing to worry about.\n\nI drove from cleveland ohio to nashville to get tattooed by ryan thomas which is black 13's newest addition. he has done the majority of my work all of which is amazing. if you are close to nashville or even as far as me its worth the drive to get tattooed by ryan or any of the other artists at black 13

Black 13 is an amazing shop with an amazing group of people. From my research on their website (which is awesome also), to my initial visit to check things out all the way through my scheduled appointment, everyone in the shop was easy to deal with. Professional, friendly, genuine, knowledgeable - I can't say enough great things about them. The shop is awesome, CLEAN, and overall inviting.\r\nThis visit was for my first tattoo, and I was lucky enough to have Ryan Thomas do the work. I will definitely tell everyone I know about Ryan and the exceptional job he did. I'm already planning my next piece and will definitely be back to see him.\r\n\r\nThanks to everyone @Black 13!

From start to finish the entire process at Black 13 couldn't have been better. Doy was very courteous and quick with responses to my questions.\n\nThe shop is great in the layout and vibe. It's very laid back and welcoming. I knew I made the right choice as soon as I walked in.\n\nMy appointment was with Ian White, and he is an amazing artist. He was very attentive in listening to my ideas and making sure we got it perfect before we started. It was great to not feel rushed through the process. He was friendly and laid back throughout my session, and he made sure to explain everything I needed to do for aftercare. I walked out with a tattoo that is better than I could have imagined. \n\nWhen I am ready for my next tattoo, I will definitely be going back to Ian and Black 13.\n\nThanks guys for making my first tattoo a great time. I'll be spreading the good word. \n

The website, shop, artists, and management are all simply amazing. Doy was quick to answer any and all questions I had either via email or phone. The shop is immaculate and classic in it's design and decoration. The staff is extremely professional and the artists are unbelievably talented. Marty was able to take a vision I had in my head for my first tattoo and turn it into something beyond my wildest expectations. I walked in bound and determined to get ONE tattoo and left thinking about ideas for my next one. \n\nThanks gentlemen for a job well done. I'll be seeing you again in the near future.\n\n\n\n

Everything about Black 13 is top notch! I read all the great reviews before I went (which is why I decided on getting my work done there), and they lived up to every expectation.\n \n1) The Parlor - Amazing space. You know you're in a professional area as soon as you walk in the door. This is evident simply in their logo (clean, professional, understated, and classic). You can tell a lot of thought went into the space. Nice high ceilings (the exposed pipes/lighting give some great focal points to stare at while getting work done :) ). Tons of artwork line the walls (REAL artwork, not Flash), including some incredible (and incredibly large) spray-paint-on-canvas work from Marty. This place feels like an art gallery.\n \n2) The Talent - You can tell from the website that all the guys there are amazingly talented. Ian White did my tattoo, and I am absolutely THRILLED with the result. I had some ideas about what I wanted and some reference material, and Ian knocked the final design out of the park. I couldn't have asked for a better representation of what I was looking for. The session itself was great - good music playing (didn't even have to break out my iPod), good conversation (Ian was very laid back and does not act like he is better than you - and I got that vibe from everyone there), and again, an AMAZING finished product. These guys are not ""tracers"", they are true artists. I feel like I should charge people just to look at my tattoo! Ryan and Steve were also working on pieces while i was there and the results of those were sick! And yes, there is a wait to get work done. I had to wait a few weeks for my appointment. But it was worth the wait and then some. There's a reason these guys are booked solid. They're the best in Nashville by far, and I'd venture to say the best in TN, possibly the best in the south, and maybe even the US. It's simply amazing that we have a shop of this caliber in Nashville.\n \n3) The Business/Marketing/Ownership - You can tell that this place cares about their relationship with their customers and growing their business to be the best it can be. The website is first rate. They have a great presence on social networking sites (primarily Facebook and Twitter), showing they have an idea of how businesses need to operate in this current age. And their communication blew me away. Anytime I called, the person on the phone was really helpful and didn't sound like they were just trying to get me off the phone. I exchanged emails with Doy Gardner (one of the owners), trying to get my ideas across and schedule the appointment. Doy was incredibly responsive (to the point I was actually surprised at how prompt the responses were) and extremely helpful.\n \nStop looking around for a place to get your work done, and schedule an appointment now! I've had some work done at other places in Nashville, but any future work will be done at Black 13!

Where to begin.....\n\nI started this trek around 2 years ago.... \n\nI knew i wanted a half sleeve, and I knew i didnt want just anyone to do it. I wanted the best. I stumbled across the Black 13 website a while back and was absolutely amazed by the skill of all the artists, however upon looking at such amazing artwork, i assumed that it would be far out of my price range.....So alas, I kept searching.\n\nMy searches kept turning up the same name....Black 13. About a year after my first contact with Black 13, i decided to contact them...just for the hell of it. I was overjoyed when Doy contacted me back almost immediately. Doy and I corresponded daily for almost 2 weeks trying to sort out my tattoo. I wanted a medieval style dragon (western style) and a phoenix (Dragon to represent me, and phoenix to represent my late father) as well as a couple of things to represent my kids and I wanted this crammed into a half sleeve. I inquired about price, and I firmly believe that you cant put a price on art, but money is an object to me and I needed to make sure that it wouldnt break the bank. I was delighted to find that the hourly rate was very reasonable. I would have been happy to have any of the guys at Black 13 do my tattoo, however Josh Woods style of art was intriguing and I really wanted to see how my ideas would look in his style. Doy told me that josh stays booked up months in advance, so it would be a couple of months before i could get in. I agreed, and since it would be a couple of hours drive for me to get to Nashville, a couple of months worked out well to sort things out with work and home before I went to Nashville.\n\nWhen the day finally came, I was super stoked!! Arrival at Black 13 was different from other shops that I have been to. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. Josh measured my arm and went to work sketching out the tat. They spared no expense on the atmosphere. It is tasteful and classy. I felt almost like I was at some sort of twisted spa. They even provided me with free amp energy drink!! It truly is a class establishment. \n\nJosh had the sketch done in about 45 minutes. He had the lines inked on my arm in 2.5 hours, and he finished the whole deal in around 8 hours. I was amazed at how fast and how good he really was. He is truly one of the elite in the business. \n\nThe Tattoo is the most awesome thing I have ever seen. It is 100 times better than I could have ever imagined. If you have ever thought about getting a tattoo, I highly suggest Black 13!!!!

I got my first tattoo from Ian White at Black 13 and couldn't have been any more pleased with my experience and the tattoo.\n\nWhen I decided that it was time to find the right person to do my tattoo I knew that researching the best person for me was going to be the biggest part of the battle. Thankfully, I have a lot of friends with amazing tattoos and was directed to Ian. \n\nAlthough my tattoo is simply script and not the pinnacle of creativity, it was still critical to me that it be exactly what I wanted...and good. It was not an option to walk-in to a shop and have whoever is available immediately knock it out. \n\nAfter stalking Ian's work over the internet, I made an appointment and gave him a brief description of what I was looking for. The evening I went in to get it done, he had had sketched the word and to no surprise it was 1,000 times better than I could have ever imagined...prettier than any I'd seen before. In the limited amount of freedom he had in the one word he tattooed for me, Ian was able to execute exactly what I had envisioned...only better! I'm so proud of it and glad it's mine, and it's only one word!\n\nI would absolutely recommend and suggest looking into Black 13 for your next tattoo.

I emailed Doy to set my appointment and give some ideas about what I wanted and he got back to me quickly and I was set to go.\r\n\r\nWhen I got there, I was in the capable hands of Marty McEwen once again. We discussed the design, I wanted a few changes and he suggested some more. He went back, drew it out and I was very pleased with the final result of our collaboration. The tattoo is exactly what I wanted.\r\n\r\nIt was a pleasant experience from beginning to end. Love the location, the ""feel"" of the parlor, and the people (Doy, Fred, and Marty) are great! This is the place to go if you are looking to Get want you Want done.\r\n\r\nThanks again!\r\n

My friend and i have been researching tattoos in the area and were amazed at all the positive reviews we found while searching though this site. I've had a design that I've wanted for about a year now and once i found these guys i knew they were perfect. These guys were great right from the start. I stay busy due to my job and it was a huge help that i was able to email them what i wanted and discuss things. They were very informative and suggested Ian for my ideas. They took the time to explain details about tattooing and why they were making certain suggestions. I never knew a lot about tattooing and now I feel like i got a little knowledge under my belt. The parlor itself looks phenomenal and service once i was there, great great great!! I'm so excited to get back. Thanks so much to Ian and the guys at Black 13!

First off, I have one or two tattoos and have experienced the process with many different artists - I have been tattooed by everyone of the guys at B13 and each time it was unique, comfortable and in the end resulted in a great piece of art. The shop is decorated in a cool modern decor but you still know your in a tattoo shop. The guys up front are always exceptional at guiding you through the set up and all the artists will give you time to walk through the design process. This is going to be on you for life and you get the feeling from everyone working there that they really care about that. \nThe shop offers an artist for everyone, they have four or five artists working at any given time and each one brings something unique to the table. So whatever you are looking for B13 will have someone to suit you. People always compliment my work and always ask where i got them or where i would suggest. These days it is hard to recommend anything to people especially something like a tattoo shop but i know when i tell people the only place in Nashville to go is B13 i can say that with total confidence..

My wife and I traveled from Seattle, WA to Nashville based entirely on the strength of Josh Woods' portfolio. We had been following Josh's work in any number of tattoo magazines over the last several months, and decided to see if he had any openings for a new client. The shop was extremely flexible with our scheduling, very friendly, and the process could not have been simpler -- let them know when we wanted what type / size of tattoo, put down a modest deposit, and away we go. Being so far away, Doy did a great job keeping up with my wife's thoughts for her upcoming tattoo, and was the epitome of courtesy and professionalism in the face of my wife's dozen e-mails or so.\n\nUpon finally arriving at Black 13, we found the shop to be very warm and much more contemporary than any other tattoo shops we had been in (from the Seattle area, anyway). There was absolutely no ""members only"" vibe in the place, and in fact, we overheard three other customer counseling sessions while we were waiting for the final artist proof and each time the office staff (Fred) was exceptionally patient and understanding, even helping one prospective client adjust her expectations associated with a particularly large piece that would have taken much longer than she was anticipating.\n\nThe work itself was first-rate. My wife even wanted a change made on the fly, and Josh smoothly made the updates right on her arm without a hitch. Artistically, Josh does color work in a fun, playful style that we have not often seen. So colorful and playful in fact, that I don't think people really believe it's a tattoo -- you know, the kind that involves needles and a good amount o' pain. That was exactly what we were looking for. My wife's tattoo took several hours, and came out beautifully, healing in no time. It may be stating the obvious, but listen carefully to the aftercare instructions and actually *do* it.\n\nI was impressed enough with Josh's work and the entire Black 13 experience that we're planning to make another trip from Seattle to Nashville in November (assuming Josh is still tattooing us regular folk at that time!).\n\nOh, and make sure to pick up a t-shirt or two on your way out -- they're awesome!

All the reviews I read before coming to Black 13 Tattoo were right! This is an awesome place to get your tatttoo. \r\n\r\nThe people are very friendly, professional and very talented. They'll work with you to turn your idea into reality and to express yourself through body art.\r\n\r\nThere's really good energy here. Laid back, and willing to help. Some tattoo parlors make you feel ""out of place"" because you don't fit the mold of someone who usually gets a tattoo. Not Black 13. They welcome you in.\r\n\r\nIf you've been afraid to get a tatttoo, then fear no more. They'll make you feel comfortable. As the description says, it's clean, professional and they make sure they do things right.\r\n\r\nPrior to coming to Black 13, I always got my tattoos when I was out of town. Now I'm so glad I have found a place in my hometown!\r\n\r\nWhat are you waiting for? Give them a call, or visit their shop!\r\n\r\n

i knew i wanted to get a tattoo for my 25th birthday, so i was planning to go to another tattoo shop that i had visited before off broadway.. i started researching them a little better and from their reviews found out about Black 13. i was in awe, basically, from reading the 50 something GREAT reviews and knew right away i had to visit them!\n\ni went in with my sister-in-law yesterday on my birthday in hopes of being able to get something done.. i shouldve taken into consideration from all of the positive reviews that they might not be able to fit me in, but i was thinking ""its a wednesday afternoon, im sure they could fit me in"".....wrong lol. turns out they were totally booked for the rest of the week and next week.. Doy (i believe - i didnt catch his name but i think it was him from doing some research) greeted us and helped us out by booking something for me next wednesday. i was a little bummed that i couldnt get it on my birthday but was THRILLED that he found something for me and that it was just a week away! i havent even gotten the tattoo yet but i already know that Black 13 is the place to go.. just from reviews, hands down, its the only place. ;) im looking forward to getting my tattoo done and going back for future pieces! \n\nthanks to Doy for being so friendly and professional.. cant wait to get back there! :)\n

Located in downtown Nashville in Cummins Station, Black 13 has it all. A very professional and classy tattoo parlor and some of the best artists ever. \n\nMy husband, two friends and I were in Nashville on vacation and we all wanted tattoos. Doy was able to work us in with Marty and all four of us left very happy!\n\nIf, after reading all the positive reviews, you still are not sure then just stop in and take a look for yourself! You will be impressed!\n\nBlack 13 also has t-shirts for sale and some awesome art work by Marty. \n\nDefinitely check them out! My husband has already scheduled his next appointment!

Trust Me !! Black 13 is the place to go if u are looking to get a awesome tattoo !! My family and i decided to make a trip from Canada to Nashville on the Easter long weekend, while looking for things to do while we were in Nashville i decided to look up Tattoo parlors on the internet, nothing really caught my eye until i came across the site of Black13, as soon as i seen the work that these artists have done !!! i knew right away that Black 13 was the place for me !! So i called and talked to Doy one of the owners of the shop and he had me booked for the Friday that i was to be there , The tattoo that i choose to have done was a portrait of my late Father, up to this point !! i had been looking for many years for a artist that i could trust to do a good job !! The artist that did my portrait is a artist by the name of Ian White, Ian brought this portrait to life and did a amazing job !!! People talk about it every where i go !!! i finally have the tattoo that i have always wanted of my Father. Without notice these guys even made time to fit 3 of my sisters in so they could get a small tattoo each !! I just wanna say thanks to the guys at Black 13 for what they did for me and my family and for making my trip to Nashville one that i will never forget !!! And a special thanks to Ian for the awesome portrait of my Dad !! i will be back for sure !!! soon i hope !! Thanks Joe

He does incredible black and grey work. There is a reason this place has the best reviews. It is the best in town. Everyone in the shop was awesome right from my first phone call. I've gotten tattooed here many many times and every time is an amazing experience. The artists are super-talented, and really their artistry is unmatched in Nashville. The shop is so beautiful and classy that you find yourself forgetting you're in a tattoo shop. From the moment you book your appointment until you walk out the door, you're treated with respect and kindness, which I personally find rare these days. The pricing is definitely fair, especially when you consider the quality and uniqueness of the tattoo. If you're getting tattooed in Nashville, go to Black 13 Tattoo first and always.

Pros: THE BEST and most creative artists in Nashville

I have followed this shop and their work for some time. Being a tattoo artist myself I do my research. These men are AMAZING artists, every one of them. Their standards are so far above the rest and their attitudes are humble. The shop is spotless, the men are hilarious and put you at ease yet also professional. I had the pleasure of getting work done by Josh Woods. I am absolutely in love with my tattoos!! I know Josh Woods is a very busy man, but he gave me his full attention and worked with me on every detail when creating my tattoo. The customer is truly the priority at Black 13. I even got a reminder call a couple days before my appointment. This shop ooozes professionalism, class, and talent. I was honored to be tattooed here and would absolutely love more work from these fine gentlemen. My bow tattoos are kickin by the way!! :D

I have been admiring the work of the Black 13 artists for over a year now. I have been trying to make the trip from Alabama to get work done and had yet to have the chance till today. I ended up having to leave last minute for business and ended up in Nashville today. I took the chance of going in hoping they would have an opening. All the artists were booked but they were nice enough to fit me in between their appointments. They took all my information and called me as soon as they had an opening. The thing that surprised me most is that they even made time for my business partner and stayed late to finish. \r\n\r\nThese guys are great! I can't wait to schedule an appointment for next piece from Black 13. Thanks guys!

Their website makes them sound like the perfect tattoo shop, friendly, willing to work with you on hours and pricing. However upon attempting to talk with them about getting a tattoo I was apparently not worth their time. I only spoke to the front desk boy, no artist was willing to talk to me. My wife and I left there shaking our heads, wondering what just happened. That is ok because it led me to ICON Tattoo who is great.

Josh & I met in Atlanta about 3 or 4 years ago when he started on a full sleeve of mine. He had just moved here from Buffalo a few weeks prior & while he was tattooing me we started talking about where he lived & things to do in ATL. We discovered that he lived around the corner from me & we hit it off & became great friends.\n\nAside from being an awesome guy, he is clearly an amazing artist & great vision. He is never scared to push the boundaries of his art & always willing to step outside of his element & try something new. The guy is not ""heavy handed"" at all & can fly through a piece in no time flat. But don't let that scare you & think he'll rush through something & mess it up... OH NO, he's just that good.\n\nI met Doy through Josh & friend/tattoo artist Sean Herman & immediately like the guy from day one. Doy is a super talented musician & a great business man with the same drive & vision as Josh. It's no wonder they are in business together.\n\nAt Black 13, the first thing you'll notice is that this is unlike ANY other tattoo shop you've ever been in. It breaks any preconceived notions your mom has about places like this. There is art on the walls from Josh & all the other artists there plus, some of Josh & the other artists friends & inspirations. It honestly looks & feels like a cross between an art gallery & a hair salon. \n\nThe other artists at the shop are just as talented & driven as the men that run the place. Steve Martin is a life long Tennessee native but his skills are bigger & strecth far beyond the boundaries of any state found in the south east, maybe even the East Coast. \n\nLenny Renken who is also a long time friend of mine, is mind boggling sometimes. He is amazing at realism, portraits & Japanese art. \n\nIan White is new to the shop but is a MVP in my opinion. He does AMAZING black & white/gray scale work. But the dude can also sling some color. \n\nMarty ""Mart Mart"" Riet! is a local graffiti legend in Nashville. If you ever seen some graff on the walls around town & just stopped & stared in awe & said ""That incredible..."" it was probably Marty's work. Marty is Josh's personal apprentice. He did his 4th tattoo on my leg as part of his apprenticeship & I was blown away. He is super talented & is dying to start tattooing full time. He's also responsible for keeping the shop clean & helping Doy run the front desk & keeping guests feeling welcome & happy. So next time you're in there, pat ole' Mart Mart on the back & tell him he's doing an awesome job.\n\nI'm telling you, once you go to Black 13 for a tattoo, you will never go anywhere else. I still live in Atlanta & I travel to Nashville a couple times a year to hang out with my friends & get tattooed because like I said, I won't go anywhere else in the world. Give them a call & talk to Doy or Marty (as they are usually the one's that answer) & they'll be more than happy to book you an appointment. They do accept walk-ins but the artists are usually booked up months in advance so, call ahead unless you just wanna drop by, check the place out & see if MAYBE you can squeeze in somewhere.

Pros: friendly, fun, CLEAN, talented artists & guest artists

Cons: not enough shops like this

.

Steve does amazing work. The tattoo I just got looks like it was painted on canvas. The guys at the shop are great and the atmosphere is very relaxed. I would never go anywhere else for a tattoo.

Before getting another tattoo (it had been years) I did my homework and alot of it. I visited shops in the REGION, searched the internet, read reviews and studied the artists work. After bad visit after bad visit I found Black 13 and never looked back. The artist work speaks for itself. The quality is unmatched. As for the shop experience itself, I was blown-away by the professionalism and the clean and upscale atmosphere. No other shop I visited came close to my experience at Black 13. If your considering a tattoo, save yourself some time and go straight to Black 13. You won't be dissappointed.

A friend and I (from SC) were in Nashville for a concert, and we decided to get a tattoo while we were here. The first place we went completely ignored us, and we stood there looking at their art for about 20 minutes, just waiting for them to acknowledge our presence, which they never did. We finally gave up and headed to Black 13, and were blown away as soon as we walked in the door. The parlor looks amazing... it has to be the classiest tattoo parlor in existence. Their art was on display everywhere, and it is incredible. The guys immediately talked to us, and even though they were pretty much booked all day, they worked us in. It was my first tattoo, and they were completely helpful and honest, telling me what would look good and what would work the best, and making sure that what I decided on would still look good 20 years from now. I didn't have a chance to get nervous because the whole ambience of the place just makes you feel comfortable and at ease. The tattoo that Josh gave me was so much cooler than what I had envisioned... it absolutely rocks! What he can do with color, even on smaller, simpler tattoos, is just amazing. Everybody there was friendly and accessible; they hung out with us while we waited, and you could tell they all love what they do. I can't say enough good things about them, and if (or should I say WHEN) I get a second tattoo, I will be heading back to Black 13.

Ok . . . me and a freind were in Nashville for the weekend and decided to get some ink done. I am really big on the vibe I get from a place and we visited one other tattoo parlor in downtown Nashville and no one spoke to us. We didn't get ""be with you in a minute"" we got nothing. I felt invisible. This place was not busy at all. So we leave and head to Black 13. We walk in and 1) The interior of the shop is amazing, there is a great atmosphere and it just kinda puts you at ease. 2) the guys were really nice, not condescending or intimidating. The artist are amazing. I just got a really simple tattoo (my third) and it was my friends first tattoo. She could not have asked for a better first tattoo experiance. All in all it was the best tattoo experiance I have had yet. I highly recommend this shop. I am from SC and would totally go back.

Since I travel the country as a road crew member for bands and artists of all sizes I've seen more than my fair share of Tattoo artists and Tattoo Shops Both. However, when I came to Black 13 when my regular artist Ian White was doing a guest spot here (he is now a regular artist there) I instantly felt like I had walked into one of the best shops in the country. \n\nThe shop sits inside of a historic building with other shops and offices adjacent to Union Station. The location is in a safe area and is easy to take public transportation, ride a bike, or park your car near. From first walking into the main building to stepping foot in the shops common area it is always a comfortable environment, which is a plus for any first timer out there or anyone that gets nervous before appointments in general.\n\nAll of the artists and staff members were very passionate about their art, thier jobs, and the work of each of their co-workers making it a very unique environment where they all seemed eager to learn even more from each other as they all bring something a little different to the table from one another.\n\nMy tattoo itself came out better than I could ever have imagined. I was staying in a 4 Star hotel and most of the staff was asking me where I got it done and commenting on how unique the style was that Ian White applied to it. (Go to their site, its the Lighthouse under Ian's profile.) Even the airport security personnel made a point to ask me if I had received the tattoo in Nashville and wanted to know where at. That has to say something in itself.\n\nAll in all, I would highly recommend Black 13 to everyone in the area and the country both. I fly in from New Jersey just to get tattooed here and I feel that everybody in Nashville should take full advantage of having such an amazing staff of artists at their disposal.\n\n5 Stars for Black 13

The guys at Black 13 were excellent to work with -- friendly, honest. I had a hard time expressing what I wanted, and they were nice enough to let me reschedule at the last minute to do some more research. And once I had a better idea, they were great about making recommendations and helping me translate it. Highly recommended.

I I got my tattoo on Monday and i was pretty nervous because it was my first. As soon as i got there my nerves were eased because they were so welcoming, and it was a clean and professional looking parlor. I was really impressed with the cleanliness- i watched him take all the needles out of new packages, the area where i got my tattoo was thoroughly cleansed and he wore gloves. The aftercare was really simple and pain/itch free for me. Mine was not irritating at all! I was scheduled with Ian White and he did a really nice job on my tattoo and he was so so nice! If i ever get a second tattoo I will be back at Black 13, no doubt!

Very impressed with the cutomer service at the front of the shop! Doy is really great at managing the client to artist communications and scheduling.\r\n\r\nGot tattooed by Steve Martin- Great artist, very easy to communicate ideas too and a real professional. Can't wait for the second session to finish up a large peice and I am planning on getting few more tats from him. \r\n\r\nYou can't go wrong with any artist in the shop. I can't say that about other Tattoo Shops in town.\r\n\r\nThe shop itself is immaculate, clean, and upscale.\r\n\r\nIf you are thinking about getting work done, Black 13 is a sure thing!

The waiting area was very comfortable and the staff was very helpful. I thought that being a diabetic was going to be a problem, but they made sure that I was comfortable with getting the tattoo and to make sure that I told the artist if I started to feel light-headed. Overall I think that this is the best place to get a tattoo in town hands down. I think Ian White did an amazing job on my tattoo. I'm glad that I came to Black 13 Tattoo to get my first tattoo
