In June of 2009, my beloved mini schnauzer was diagnosed with a liver shunt at 8 years of age, after going to Georgia Vet Specialist and being informed she was too old for surgery and should just be maintained on diet and drugs, which would only allow her 10 mos to 2 years, I sought a 2nd opinion, which was ST Francis, Dr Newton did her surgery and she is better than ever!!!! 1 1/2 years later, no diet, no drugs. I now have a rescue mini schnauzer pup with the same condition. Guess where we will be going!

I have a toy poodle that had to have surgery at St. Francis in Nov. 2009. He is my heart and soul my baby boy. We got up one morning and Teddy could not move he was paralysis. I came to St. Francis in tears and no one else to turn to for help. Our vet did not know what else to do but to refer us to them. I was a wreck and was in no way going to give up on him. Dr Newton welcome me with open arms and told me her opinion, and then let me make the choice. If I had gone with others opinions my Teddy would not be here today. Thanks to St. Francis I still have Teddy and he can run and play, all I wanted was someone to give me hope and tell me let??s try this. He is doing GREAT and still has a lot of life in him. He may be a dog but to me he is my kid. Thanks so much to St. Francis and Dr. Newton. Penny Tracy 2010

I took two animals to this vet. They are gone. I have read how beautiful their waiting area is. It sure is and you can bet who paid for it; people that were given hope their pets would survive. My 2 were there. It's a death camp with smiley faces. $3,000 later and a hopeless viral disease in which my animal suffered for no reason except my hope, that went to pay for their beautiful waiting area. It's complete with security cameras by the way. Apparently, there are a few people that know how they really do business. Rack up the charges on needless procedures or keep the animal alive to charge more money. Dr. Smallwood can't think outside the box and uses her special template for diagnostic procedure to be sure to get the most out of you.

I am still reeling from the charges. Over $3,000 in 4 days. Rip off, and the person that collects the money is paranoid so there are cameras all over the place. LOL!

Business Response:

Tommy M. - Hosp. Admin - SFVS When Harry's pet 1st arrived, he'd been suffering from loss of appetite + dehydration for 3 weeks prior. His condition was extremely critical on arrival, and described by Harry as ??dying?.The patient suffered from the often fatal disease panleukopenia, which Harry acknowledged in his own words to be ??untreatable?. The care engaged was largely based around trying to stabilize his condition through fluids, antibiotics, and meds to abate vomiting and nausea. His condition was so grave, that many of the diagnostic measures ordinarily indicated, were not medically feasible until the patient could be stabilized. The patient deceased while at a different veterinary care facility - the patient was not being cared for by our facility, at the time of death. On 5 documented, separate occasions, Harry voiced satisfaction with the care being received. To assure SFVS that our staff had Harry's full support and confidence during our treatment plan ?? he affirmed on at least two specific occasions (with two separate employees) that he would prefer that the patient remain in our facility and continue to receive care from us.

A senior pet in our permanent foster program went to St. Francis for specialist cardiac care. We had used other cardiologists in town before, and the vet and staff at St. Francis are undeniably the best in town. They also care about the customer service they are giving, which is unlike some other specialists in the metro area. I definitely recommend St. Francis when your pet needs specialty care.

St. Francis Animal Care Center is a fairly new (fall 2007) specialty hospital in Decatur. There is an internist and a surgeon. My cat went for diagnostic procedures and I was very pleased with the quality of the work. In addition, the facility is sparkling clean and has a pleasant atmosphere (there are picture windows in the exam rooms, with large windowsills, looking out onto woods--perfect for cats to hang out while waiting). The only problem was long wait times; however, the veterinarians and other staff are friendly and apologetic about delays. The center accepts new clients by veterinary referral only.
