I just brought home my Gustav Stickley??s rocking chair, which I had restored at Renaissance Furniture Restoration. This chair belongs to my family from late 1800s and it has incredible value both monetary and sentimental. Needless to say, that before I made my decision about where to bring my chair for restoration, I spent good deal of time searching for the best. For a couple of years I was asking my friends and co-workers about their experience with different restoration companies and still didn??t feel confident enough to entrust such an important piece to anyone. The big problem was that most of restoration companies know how to do just one of the types of restoration, either repairs, or refinishing, or reupholstery. But my old chair needed ALL of the above. Besides, one of the runners was broken a few years ago and unsuccessfully repaired.

Fortunately, one of my co-workers told me about this guy, Boris from Renaissance Furniture Restoration, who did great job of restoring of her antique bedroom set, and she gave me his business card. First, I checked his website, which was simple and informative enough to make me comfortable to make a phone call. Our phone conversation was pleasant and I decided to meet with him personally. When I came to his studio on Ocean Ave., I understood that I am in the right place. Boris just had a few pieces of furniture restored and ready to be delivered. What a beautiful job.

So, I decided to go ahead and give it a try. When I brought my rocker to Boris, we spent more than an hour discussing the way it should be restored and what kind of material may be used for the upholstery. I felt very comfortable not being rushed and having the opportunity to ask as many questions as I wanted. Boris knows a lot about furniture and he suggested using the leather, similar to the original. He has a lot of samples of different fabrics and leathers, so I finally choose the color of the leather I liked. Boris also recommended replacing the broken runner with a new one. He said that he has an old oak wood, which would be perfect for this. After discussing all the details Boris gave me an estimate and the leading time to finish the job. I found both of them very reasonable.

A few weeks later, when I was on my way to Renaissance to pick my rocker up, I knew that I would be happy to see my revived family heirloom. Boy, I was shocked when I saw it? It looked like Gustav Stickley himself rose from the grave and restored my chair to its original beauty. Yet, it has an antique patina, which shows that this chair was made many-many years ago. I was trying to recognize which of the runners is new and I couldn??t. The old saggy seat was restored to a very comfortable and nice looking one. Amazing job!

From now on Boris is my guy. Whatever needs to be restored in my home will be done at Renaissance Furniture Restoration. I highly recommend this company for any antique restoration needs.
