Had brunch here on Sunday, which was marvelous. I had the Irish breakfast, which was as authentic as it gets, and my girlfriend was besotted with the French Toast. They were also serving $5 drafts for "Kick the Keg" day, as they need to

This is a place that very much earns all its distinguished awards as one of the best beer bars in NYC and even in America. 40 constantly rotating taps is about all you need to know there. The food has also gotten quite good; they've a new

In the wasteland that is the 30s between Penn Station and 3rd Avenue, there aren't too many good bars to choose from. Rattle n' Hum is a nice exception and a low-key version of the Ginger Man. Personally, I'm not a fan of the Ginger Man: the layout is bad, the crowd is annoying, but I admit the selection is fantastic.

At Rattle n' Hum I get it all: impressive list of beers, a more casual environment and friendlier crowds. They have samplers which are perfect for trying several beers and the prices range from $7-$18 or so. They also have pretty good food (the sliders at least were a hit). I'm a card member of I'm Not At Work, so I also get to choose from several beers priced at $5 for me, all night long. A big plus!

If you're looking for an after work buddy hangout, you can't do better than Rattle N Hum. Located just a few avenue blocks from Penn Station, this bar has a wide assortment of craft beers able to please any palate. Invite your friends and you'll instantly be known as the dude with good taste. Be patient for your orders though. They can get crowded and are often short staffed, but the food and drinks are well worth the wait.

Pros: Wide variety of craft beers

Cons: Can get crowded

Great local in a neighborhood void of character when it comes to Irish Pubs.
When you are craving a good, nay, an excellent pint, move away from the other neighborhood staples, and make your way over here.

Pros: Endless choices of choice beer

Cons: Crowded happy hour

If you are looking for excellent beer, this place is second to none... If you are looking for mass produced beer and a B&T scene, you should look elsewhere... No cr*p on tap!

Two out of three of my order options were out on a Tue. night at 6pm. Bartender couldn't provide a menu with bottle selections so one has to squeeze by the sausage party four deep at the bar to try and read labels 12' feet away. The Happy hour special much like the character of this spot borders on non-existant.

I've been a regular since Nov of last year. They serve a great selection on 40 taps, plus 4 handdrawn casks, and always clean their lines. My old "locals" were dba, Blind Tiger, Swifts, and Ginger Man. All good bars, but for beer, nothing surpasses RnH. I've seen some gripes about buybacks and happy hour in CitySearch reviews, but these people must not be regulars and must not frequent Ginger Man, the only other good beer bar in the area. Compared to Ginger Man, buybacks are plentiful and the prices are great. Compared to other Manhattan bars, the buybacks and prices are standard (4th beer, and $6-$8, respectively) for the beers available. Food is good too.

As an avid beer fan and one who always appreciates a finely crafted brew this place has a really good list. Unfortunately, that's where it ends. The happy hour is a joke since only certain beers are actually included. The waitstaff isn't friendly and the atmosphere is less than stellar. It's located right by the Empire State Building, so they tend to get a large after-work, b&t crowd. I went in one night to have a growler filled with Captain Lawrence DIPA. The bartender charged me the glass price multiplied by 4. Are you kidding me! What kind of bar doesn't offer a discount for growlers??? Unless they have something I can't find anywhere else, which is doubtful, I won't be going back.

Pros: One of the best beer lists in the city

It advertises itself as the Longest Happy Hour in Midtown but I couldnt tell you whats included.
$5 Martinis and $1 off all draft.
How come my friends Martini was $10 and only 6 beers are marked as "happy Hour eligible?
Greedy. No buy backs.
Too bad. I am right in the neighborhood. Could have been a good thing.
Will not go back!!!

A group of friends took me out for drinks as a farewell celebration, and since this place is close to the office we decided to try it out....things started out ok but went downhill. 1st of all don't try to use the happy hour coupon on Citysearch, they never heard of such a coupon and won't honor it. And even though they are supposed to have a $5 martini during happy hour I was charged $10 for the martini I had during that time. The worst thing though was when we ordered shots of Petron Silver and were given some God awful, cheap substituion that felt like fire going down instead of the ever so smooth Petron Silver we had earlier in the evening, AND when we brought this to the waitress' attention she said it tasted that way because we didn't request 'chilled' shots..are you kidding me!?!?!? It's a shame because we spent a huge amount of money and you would think they would make the situation right by taking that one round of shots off our tab, but instead all we got was a riduculous response from a know it all waitress. Oh and beware of ordering the fried foods, they cook everything in the same oil so if you have allergies you might want to order something that's not fried.

Okay, now there are two beer bars in Midtown that legimately have a awesome selection. I was very impressed of the seletion that this place had. What is funny is that it's around the corner from Gingerman which is the other Midtown beer heaven. I highly recommend this place since the beer selection is always changing and the staff is very friendly. I don't recommend Stout...it has some micros on tap, but they never change there selection so it dosen't want me to go back since it's always the same beer.

Stopped in on one of the first nights the bar was open and was pleasantly surprised. All too often, a new place will be 'working the kinks out' during the first few days but it looks like Rattle 'n Hum got right into rhythm! Although the kitchen was not open yet, the staff are friendly and the beer is amazing. My concerns that this place would be pretentious or a frat-boy fest were put to rest before I even took a seat at the bar. Now, having dozens of beers on draft is one thing, but having dozens of QUALITY beers on draft is another! The decor is clean and nice, yet the place is dark enough to sit comfortably and enjoy some conversation with friends or the staff with your pint of stout, or ale, or dunkel-weisse or ... well, you get the idea. The kitchen was not open yet when I was there, but it is open now and the specials posted during lunch constantly tempt me to come in for a good meal and a beer but I know I'd never make it back to the office! I'll be back again, and probably quite often.

Pros: Amazing beer selection and great quality, clean, comfortable, friendly

Cons: It will make you stay for more. Could become really crowded.

Great new bar/restaurant that has an excellent draft selection of rare and favorite suds. Unlike some bars with vast selection, this bar has selected only the beers that are rated "B" or better by BeerAdvocate online. Which helps remove the 'risk' of trying something new and ends up being horrible.
While the bar has a very narrow section between the front and back, it is very well run and hopefully will ease some of the crowds at similar bars such as Gingerman or Stouts.
Highly recommended for those that love beer. Couldnt check the food yet as they are so new!
