Horrible horrible business. This isnt poor business, its blatantly bad business. I am so angry about my experience that it's nit enough for me to not go back, but I also feel I need to put the word out there for other potential clients. The owner of this salon is rude and a complete crook. Ive been a regular for over a year now and was never informed of a so-called 24 hour cancellation policy. I missed an appointment due to an emergency and found myself charged the full amount for services that WOULD have been rendered. Not only did i NEVER consent to having my credit card information kept on file but I also never consented to having my card charged for a missed appointment. The owner had no interest in my concerns and even less interest in keeping my business. She practically told me i wasnt welcome back if i choae to dispute the charge. Absolutely zero customer service. Please think twice about giving your business to this woman and her filthy establishment.

I recently went in for a "color correction" and saw Tohmas Gustaf Elmlund. I love being a redhead and can normally do an okay job on my own with a single process. Well, this summer, I decided I had to try this 'Rock Star Red'. Yeah, they

I have never dealt with such a disgustingly rude person, especially someone who is working FOR me. Revi, I am sure you are reading this and I welcome the ??nasty? emails to follow. What a pathetic way to run a business. Like I have mentioned, the money is clearly not an issue to me, so when you write to me, please save yourself the trouble of accusing me of not being able to ??afford? your salon, which is half the price of the salon my family and I have been frequenting for 10 years.

If you are considering wasting your time, money, and patience at a Valery Joseph salon??think again. Unless you like being treated like trash, by trash.

I am from the upper east side. My mother and father are both affluent lawyers here, and have been for 30 years each. My mother and I have been going to John Barrett in Bergdorf Goodman for many years.

I started getting weekly blow outs at the Valery Joseph Blow Bar on 82nd street, as it is close to my apartment on 88th between Madison and 5th. I had good experiences there for about a month with a stylist named Leo, who often asked me if I wanted to "smoke weed" with him during appointments, which I laughed off-- unprofessional; but harmless. We had talked about doing extensions in my hair. Leo told me it would be around $1,000 altogether. He said that the extensions would last about 8 weeks, and then he would remove them, clean them, and reapply the same extensions. $1,000 for four months of extensions seemed appropriate to me, so we did them. After two months, I went in for what I though was a removal and reapplication. Leo used PURELL, yes- the hand sanitizer- in an attempt to remove my extensions. He missed his following appointment to Revi my dissatisfaction with the extensions, and how I felt mislead by her stylist at the Blow Bar. She offered to apply new extensions "free of charge" excepting the price of the actual hair, which was around $320. I agreed.

A week later, I stopped in to match the color of the extensions so that they could order the hair. I told Revi I wanted two different colors, as to create a highlight effect. She told me that if I did that, the extensions would show through my real hair, so she told me I would have to make an appointment with a colorist to get a lighter look. Knowing I would have to pay for the color, I made the appointment anyway. I cared about the principle, not the money, and I wanted my hair to look good.

When I went in for my appointment to get the extensions applied. Nir, who is wonderful, applied the dark extensions that Revi had ordered for me. I then went to see Lauren, my colorist. We were both confused as to why Revi had chosen such a dark color. I was hesitant to write a review because I truthfully think that both Lauren and Nir were wonderful, and I do not want them to get penalized. That being said, Lauren did the best she could to lighten the dark extensions, while it was clear that a lighter color should have been used, like I had initially suggested. Once my hair was blow dried, it was clear that there was little to no difference in the color of my hair. Again, this is not to Lauren??s detriment, as she did the best she could with what she was given by her boss.
I was clearly unsatisfied, which is when Revi became incredibly rude. I explained to her why I was displeased, and proceeded to PAY WITHOUT HESITATION a little over $700 for the price of the hair, and the ??color.? Nir, who saw that I was unhappy and why, stepped in and offered to apply a few lighter extensions. He did a wonderful job, and basically gave me what I had asked for initially, and been refused by Revi. I tipped both Nir and Lauren $40, and left. I should have asked for my money back for the non-existent $400 color, but I didn??t, because to be frank money is not an issue, and it wasn??t worth it to me to argue with unstable Revi.

Today, I went back to have the extensions removed. It has been 10 weeks and they have stayed in nicely. Again, Nir did a great job. When I sat down at the technician??s station to get the extensions removed, Revi sent someone over to tell me that it would be $200 an hour to get the hair removed. I kindly asked to speak to her directly, seeing as when she offered to do my extensions FREE OF CHARGE, she did not mention that she would be CHARGING me to remove them. She immediately became aggressively rude, and told me that she was not my ??slave? and proceeded to walk away and to the front desk. I walked over to her, and calmly tried to explain to her the situation, because I was under the impression that she had possibly forgotten what she had told me, which would be understandable- as long as she corrected her mistake. She went on to tell me that I was lying about getting the extensions done at the salon. She tried to tell me that I had gotten them elsewhere, and was trying to use the salon to get these removed for free. When I proved her wrong, she proceeded to tell me that in that case- I should tip Nir extra because he did such a good job. She kicked me out of the salon. I went to the Blow Bar to ask Leo if there was anyone above her who I could express my concerns to. She had called the Blow Bar and told them that if any one spoke to me they would be fired.

Look no further than this salon for the Best cut of your life! I have had a lot of good haircuts but none to ever qualify as great until Maria de Los Angeles starting cutting my hair. I finally am able to say I have a hair style! I really liked my first haircut by Maria, but I have loved each and every one from that first one on. She is much more than a stylist she's a true artist. Maria brings out the best in me. Her attention to detail amazes me. So if you want style Maria is the one for you!

I have been seeing Gigi for some time now and she deserves all of the amazing credentials and publicity she has received in the past. She has been working alongside owner, Valery for a long time and what a team they are! I always see Gigi for color and Val for a haircut and I receive compliments on my hair almost daily! Valery recommended I see Rachel Gangemi for my brow's and I was so blown away! The saying is true, "You get what you pay for!" Rachel transformed my eyebrows, no wonder celebrities have been going to her for years! I would never go to another salon, everything you need is here!

I made an appointment at Valery Joseph with Savita after seeing my friend's amazing haircut! She's been seeing Savita for years, so I decided to switch on over. The front desk was very responsive and accomodating, and offered me a cappucino and a manicure, as well. Adrianna, their nail technecian is amazing! She was very kind and worked very well. Afterwards, I was greeted by Savita and she gave me a great suggestion on what to do with my hair. I've never been so thrilled with my salon experience at Valery Joseph!

Pros: Customer Service, Stylists & Nail Tech

.

My mother and I have had Olga as our esthetician for years. She is friendly and gentle as can be, and we have reffered her to many of our family and friends.
When she went to Valery Joseph, we made our appointments and from the first time, the customer service didn't seem up to par. They seemed standoffish and rude. I continued to go to Olga during the duration of my pregnancy and granted they request a full 24 hour notice for cancellation. On the day of my appointment, I called to cancel as I was not feeling well and was very tired, when i called they gave me an attitude. I apologized and explained I wasnt feeling well. They wanted my credit card number so they could charge me. I called my mom very upset and she called them to yell at them. No apologies or anything from them. I had intended to go the week after I began maternity leave, but luckily I never made the appointment as I went into early labor. I can only imagine what would have happened if I called and cancelled.

I have heard of Valery Joseph salon for quite a while , but havent tried it out until just this past week, and truthfully, I dont know why I waited so long. I am an upper east side girl, and have been to every salon out there, partly because i am in the business myself. Certainly, to me, Valery Joseph is in a class of its own. They are professional, accomodating and talented. Valery and Revi, the owners, are Stunning and tasteful , I got an amaizing cut and style by Valery, his hands of gold should be cloned. Revi has an amaizing eye, she suggested that I change my color, as it was too light and was not good with my skin tone. I am glad I listened to her! When they were done with me, I looked and felt like a new woman. I highly recommend their services!!! I cant wait to go back to try the other services they have to offer. My new favorite spot!!!!!

I have been several times. While the hair cutting and color is adequate at best. The owner Revi who is also at the front when I come in is always nasty and rude to clients and has no customer service skills. she would be wise to stay home and leave the running of the salon to someone else. Valery should tell her to stay home. If you must go pick a day when she's not there. I would not give them my business again.

I fly out from San Francisco just to get my hair colored by Nicole.
The fact that she does not cut it, is NOT an issue as Gil is a genius.
Since they fit me in ALWAYS early in the morning if I have to take the red eye,
what is there to complain about?

Here is a copy of one email the salon owner Revi Joseph wrote to my personal email after seeing my negative review on city search. She must have used her records at the salon to look up my email and contact me. Doesn't Revi Joseph have anything better to do than harass already mistreated clients? Hi its your friend Revi. I read your flattering review that you posted on City Search and all I would like to tell you is that it is not nice to lie. The minute you walked into the salon, Nicole told you that unfortunately she does not cut hair that she works primarily as a colorist. However, you decided to continue the process knowing fully that you would not have her to cut your hair. Also, I didn't squeeze you in for anything as you ALREADY had an appointment with a stylist that focuses on cutting an styling only. So if you want to be truthful when writing a review, you should say that you were looking for a freebie in order to be content that day. Unfortunately for you, Revi was in charge. All I have to offer you is a staff of amazing colorists and stylists. In your review, you mentioned NOTHING of the end result of your visit at Valery Joseph Salon. If you cannot afford to have your hair done at our salon, that in itself is a good enough reason not to return. I will say its sad, because your hair did look fabulous when you left. You were looking to fight with me over anything that day, and I want you to know that I am a business woman first and foremost. I would not satisfy you that day with a lengthy argument, but I did satisfy you with great hair, which is my goal everyday. Best Regards, Revi Joseph it is interesting to note Revi continued to email nasty messages after this.

Cons: unprofessional behavior from the owner

Valery Joseph salon, worst salon experience ever. Very stressful and unnecessary. Revi the owner and wife of Valery was extremely rude and doesn't know the meaning of customer service. Clearly they are not interested in new clients.I was referred to a stylist there by a long time client. I made an appointment on the phone for a haircut and color with Nicole. When I arrived I was told she doesn't cut hair except for her old clients. the girl who took my appointment neglected to tell me this. Then i was told she could squeeze me in. Only after I had been sitting in the chair for an hour with wet colored hair did the owner Revi come over to tell me that Nicole could not cut my hair ,and there was nothing she could do for me except cancel my appointment. she said her receptionists automatically book the haircut with someone else. The owner Revi waited until I was most vulnerable my hair was already started to tell me this on purpose so i was a captive audience. I will never return to that salon and would warn anyone else away from there cruel service.

I have been going to the salon since it opened a few years ago and everytime is such a pleasure and great experience. They are the most accomodating salon, which is important for NY women who have alot to juggle and need a place to go late in the day or on the occassional Sundays. It is such a relief to have your regular hairdressers so accessible. Unlike other salons that can keep you sitting there and barely ackowledge you, walking into their salon is like walking into the owners' living room; It feels that warm and personal. Another tip is that you can get one of the best (and least painful) brazilian wax's. Sofia is a gem and makes this uncomfortable treatment a breeze.

Aside from the fact that my hair came out looking like my 8 yr old sister cut it, they were rude as well!! Its just one of those salons that think they are high-class, better than you, when in fact they dont even know what they are doing. Don't waste your time on these people, they are not worth it!! So many other salons that won't treat you like garbage and cut your hari how you want it.

I've been to the best salons in nyc and I am always looking for good places to try out. I have a bunch of friends who always rave about this place so I decided to try it out. The staff was extremely nice and skilled. My haircut was amazing and my eyebrows never looked better- Sophia is a genius at waxing! So you should really try it out.
