.

I went to Brix for lunch on a Tuesday and had a really lovely time. The restaurant is very cozy and warm feeling with honey colored floors, exposed bricks and wood beams all around you. The table settings and wine menu are a lot like the other casual, fine dining restaurants in the area but the menu is not.

Although perhaps the portions are a bit on the small side the quality of the food is quite nice. I ordered a spinach salad (with bacon dressing, bacon bits and cold mushrooms... a little too bacony for me) and a bowl of the mushroom soup (the soup du jour and it was amazing! very rich and flavorful. perfect for keeping me warm all winter long.) my friend had the cheese and something or other soup which was almost overpowering but also quite good and a shrimp pizza that was rather unremarkable. i had a water and he ordered iced tea (which they present in a really cool carafe with a little lemon holder, loved it).

for that lunch we spent $35 not including a tip. most people like spending around $10 for lunch in Chestertown but i guess at brix you are also paying for that cozy setting when you order a salad.

big points for presentation and ambience! i look forward to trying more of those soups.
