I just read the reviews on this site from pure curiousity because my friend told me to. I am just a regular guy who lives in Riverside and I bought an adorable puppy from Bark Works at the mall. The sales associates knew all about each of the puppies I asked about just by looking at them. I was lucky because the owner was even there and I got to ask her directly where the puppy came from and about the breeder. The puppy came from a breeder in MO and she got me the breeder's registration numbers and info. I got documentation showing her vet visits and all of her shots. They were very up front with me about everything even the negative fact that she wouldn't eat when she first arrived at their store so she went right to the vet and they nursed her til she was fit for sale.
The only thing I didn't like was their FREE vet is located about an hour away. But who cares? No one says I must take my pup there, it's just an offer. I took her to my own vet and paid the 35 bucks. Get over it!
I was not required to buy anything extra but they did offer me a crate and things I would have HAD to buy for the breed so I willingly bought them. They are sales associates after all, they are there to SELL. Those were told they were required to buy stuff were mislead and a poor sales tactic but honestly is that a bad enough reason to slander the whole operation? Maybe you should have informed their boss of their selling technique like a normal adult would.
The people who say they get their puppies from puppy mills, what proof do you have? There are hundrends, if not thousands of legitimate breeders nationwide in every city. What makes you believe they are coming from a puppy mill? Further more, even if they were from a puppy mill, does this mean those little dogs should not ever go to a home? Two wrongs don't make a right!
To those who say they are in horrible conditions, can you tell me of any pet store that sells puppies that are freely running around on a farm? LOL You sort of have to put the animal in an enclosure so their potential parents can see them and inspect them. Puppies sleep all the time, they are sometimes lethargic. Come on, use common sense! Do human babies get up and start playing with blocks 2 weeks after birth or do they sleep most of the time?
Finally, to those who mentioned that their puppies are not AKC recognized: they are called pedigree. The definition of pedigree is pedigree
/pedgr/Noun
1.The record of descent of an animal, showing it to be purebred.
2.A purebred animal.
You get what you pay for! Purebred dogs are expensive. The ones that are mixed are mixed for a reason. They take the best attributes from the two breeds and get you the adorable tiny or beautiful dog you have been looking for. If you want a dog just because it is recognized by what a club says be preapred to pay WAY more than what bark works charges and set aside plenty of time to locate a breeder that is probably from another state.

I had heard terrible things about Barkworks, but decided to check them out anyway because I needed some last minute stocking stuffers, etc. I was shocked at the puppies they had for sale, so I asked the sales person to give me some information. I was informed, of the 100's of breeders they've accumulated over the last 15 years, no proper health testing on either parents are ever performed, nor do they know the condition of the breeder's property, They only have mixed breeds, no AKC puppies. They informed me they mostly have "designer puppies", because that is what people are wanting these days. I also asked about a health guarantee and he informed me all the puppies are checked by a vet before they are loaded on the airplane. Please, do your homework and find a reputable breeder who has had the proper testing done and has AKC parents. Do not buy from a pet store, unless they are rescue puppies/dogs.

I had an interesting conversation with one of the sales associates today at Riversides Barkworks. Shockingly he was not shy about the places where they purchase their puppies. He informed me the puppies come from any of the hundreds of "breeders" across the country they (6 stores) have accumulated over the past 15 years. When I asked about health testing of the parents, he admitted they have never and will never see or know the condition of them or if they have ever received the proper testing. I also asked about the "rules" for purchasing a puppy and he stated I would have to purchase the food and vitamins from their store at time of purchase. This place is ridiculous and so very sad and I highly recommend that NO ONE purchase ANYTHING from this store, most certainly not a puppy. Think about the parents and breeding conditions-where these poor puppies are coming from. If you are truly wishing to purchase a puppy, PLEASE do the proper research, making sure that the proper testing has been performed. A healthy puppy is a happy pet for life.

Barkworks at Tyler Mall is a Scam company!
After my family had agreed on a selling price for the dog, they took my credit card and tried to tell me, "It is the law" that I am required to buy thier food and their vitamins!
I went home and did some research on the company and found out that they buy their dogs from puppy mills.
I am very disappointed and will never be back to their store.
The smug sales person of barkworks told me that one customer could not affect their business.
They couldnt be more wrong.

today some friends and i visited barkworks to see if it was a humaine place for the puppies to live.
we saw several puppies so sad and exhausted they would not even look at us.
when we played with the german shepard he was so skinny and frail, that he could not even play with us.
there have also been several reports of the puppies being ill after purchase, due to poor care at the stores.
this should be the case since they are so overpriced.
we asked one of the workers where they got their puppies from and he said they got them from a "breeding family in the midwest" .....
here are the breeders he speaks of....

please boycott barkworks.

Barkworks has really cute puppies but do not be fooled. They are extremely over priced and all of the puppies I have seen there are even mixed breeds! They have some very cute dog accessories but they are over priced as well. Overall I would not recommend buying anything in this store.
