You can't go wrong with Cavanaugh's Rittenhouse. They have a great menu with some of the best food in the city such as the panko crusted chicken, the fresh burgers, tator tots, and the smoked gouda fondue. All of which would be enough for most people to keep coming back. Add the wide variety of beer, the dozen TV's (open to all sports fans), the friendly staff, and the great regulars, and you have an awesome pub! It's definitely the kind of place where the entire bar will end up having one giant conversation, you are guaranteed to have a taste of espressso vodka, you will play connect four, and you will end up staying much longer than intended...

Pros: Panko Crusted Chicken Sandwich, Cavanaugh's Sauce...

Cons: Parking, construction

Ever since I had such a great time there watching the Phillies make their run to the World Series, this bar has become a favorite place. There are obvious reasons: the addictive Cavanaugh's shrimp, the fact that they serve the whole menu until 1am, the nice beer selection. Then there are reasons that you'll begin to appreciate as you linger- and you will linger, even if you think you have other things to do. Here they are, in no particular order:

1. You can hang out there all night without breaking the bank. Go ahead, invite your recently laid-off brother out for dinner and drinks. He could use some cheering up. You'll feel great about being generous, and you won't be paying it off your credit card for months.

2. You can be Norm. You want to go where someone knows your name- we all do. The bartenders at Cav's don't give that cloying, phony level of service I associate with corporate places, but they pay attention, they remember you, and they'll actually involve you in their sports trivia, goofy banter, and ridiculous stories about whatever happened last night. Only if you want to be involved, though. I've also sat at the bar and read, and I've been given great, unobtrusive service.

3. Ladies, listen up: you can wear almost anything to this place, and you'll look perfect. My boyfriend and I went there after a fancy dinner, he in a suit and tie and I in a cocktail dress, and we didn't feel ridiculous. On the other hand, I also ducked in for brunch one Sunday wearing workout clothes and ended up staying all day and most of the night, and I felt fine in that outfit too. This is key for those fashion-crisis nights, when you're kicking clothes across the room and all of your friends are impatiently waiting for you. Just put something on and go. Nobody will be looking you up and down and smirking. It's not that kind of place. Which brings me to my next point...

4. I know of no other place where you're going to find a true Rittenhouse Square "society lady" taking a break from organizing her leather-bound social diary to talk with a group of construction workers who just clocked out for the day about how great the Palestra was, while a couple stumbles through their first-date awkwardness a few stools down and a group of young financial hotshots play a cut-throat game of Monopoly in the corner. This place fulfills my idea of what a pub should be- a place where all kinds of people bump into each other and become acquainted.

5. They have sweet-tea flavored vodka. If you haven't had it yet, you can't possibly understand why this is so exciting, but trust me, it is. (And it's only $5 on Sundays!)

You don't have to take my word for it- check this place out for yourself and you'll start compiling your own list of reasons why you love it. You can share them with me if you want- I'll be at the bar eating too many Cavanaughs shrimp.

Bobby and the crew at Cavanaugh's Rittenhouse are awesome and know what they're doing. With a great menu and beer selection, plus a good amount of plasma tvs, they've managed to give the Rittenhouse Square area a great sports bar. Make sure to try the Cavanaugh's Sauce on their wings and burger!!

The kitchen offers a full menu until 1 every night...The Cavanaugh's wings are amazing...they have draft and food specials every night, including half-price cheesesteaks and burgers on Mondays and Tuesdays, $3 drafts (including craft beers) on Tuesdays, Karaoke on Wednesdays, and a great Happy Hour EVERY weekday! Happy Hour features 1/2 price appetizers and $4 drinks. And, the best part is the fact that they ALWAYS have $5 Jameson shots...a great place to pregame and end the night in Rittenhouse!

Cavs is a friendly place with great bar tenders and servers. Been here for many Happy hours and during sporting events or just when the group goes out bar hopping.

This place is defiantly worth a visit. Being a Center City ?bar hopper? I heard it recently changed owners and had to check it out. Went on Sunday for an Eagles game, the bar was packed. They had other games on as well and having different fans there made the bar very lively. My boyfriend and I ate, we both had some wings (very good), he had sliders which he liked and I had a chicken sandwich which I will be back for. It was breaded with bacon, cheese and some cherry peppers. Lots of different beers on draft. Prices were about where they should be. Service was good and we made new friends at the bar while doing shots(when the Eagles scored).

This is the place ive been waiting for in Rittenhouse. I heard that barristers was sold to Cavanaugh's so of course i was sceptical. Me and 5 of my friends went up for game 4 of the world series and had the best night ever. They actually had the volume up on every tv and the place was jamming with phills fans. The menu was awesome. i had the burger and it was ridiculously good and of course i got the tots as a side. Game time came and all of a sudden they started handing out rally towels, how cool!! During big plays everyone was waving them around, it was like i was at the game. Near the end of the game fox news came in and hugh douglas and John Bolaris did the post game show live here. Finally when we were leaving i heard someone yell Deuce Bigelow!! My Gosh, Rob Schneider was hanging out there, I got a lot of pictures. The dj playing jock jams in between innings and after homeruns was a nice touch too. Staff was all friendly. Bottom line if you want to go somewhere in Rittenhouse thats not to pretentious, not to divey and has great food and is really fun, this is the spot p.s. they have big buck hunter downstairs

Biggest sports weekend in Philadelphia in a long time. We got to the bar at 6:00 to ensure that we would be able to watch both the Penn State vs Ohio State game as well as the Phillies World Series game at the same time. We got assurances from the bartenders and general manager that the PSU game (arguably their biggest game in about a decade) would be played on one of the five tv's downstairs which was good enough for us. After eating and drinking for 4 hours, they flipped the penn state game off at 10:00 when the phillies game started. I know its the world series and the phillies game was more important than the psu game but that is precisely the reason we went to great lengths to make sure both would be on tv. Obviously we won't ever be going back (and neither should Penn State fans)
