The atmosphere is very good, when it's not busy. The tables are close, and busy = too busy, loud and crowded. The look of the place is really interesting. Very different in its colors and finishes. I usually order their veggie burgers. Sometimes they've been outstanding, among the best I've had! Other times, not. My wife gets large salads as her entre', but they range from fair to poor. It's not cheap, but in their defense this IS Blue Back Square (some of the most expensive retail space in CT). And the nice setting is part of what you're enjoying when you eat there. I like this place, but recommend it conditionally.

Unfortunately, I don't have much of anything positive to say about our experience at The Counter tonight...but it was so bad, that I felt obligated to save others from making the same overpriced mistake.

At first sight, the prices were quite steep, BUT we can appreciate eating 100% natural beef, and vegetarian fed and hormone free to boot. To us, this is worth the $4 or $5 more than the average burger. I got a burger in a "bowl" (which is more expensive than a burger in a bun...weird) with cheddar cheese and bacon, and it cost $12.75. (This did not include any fries or sides.)

I ordered my burger medium well, and it was literally rock solid it was so overcooked. The cheese and bacon were fine. Nothing was spectacular, and the beef was subpar and hard as a rock.

My husband ordered his rare and it came medium well (it had a tiny bit of pink in the center.) Neither burgers were the slightest bit juicy.

We ordered a combo of sweet potato fries and onion strings, these were pretty good.

My glass of wine was $7.50 (we buy the bottle for $8.99 most places, it's called Big House Red.)

There were 3 of us, we all had burgers, shared the fries/onion straws, and I had one glass of wine, yet our total was $68.00. Oy. For a bill like that, the burger should have been earth shattering, but it was awful.

Save your stomach and cash and go to Red Robin, or better yet go next door for some amazing (and affordable) Mexican food at Moe's!
