U-31 Cocktail Lounge & Bar

Really fun, low key place to spend a Friday or Saturday night. Drinks are a good price and people dress in anything from downtown chic to t-shirts and flip flops making for an eclectic crowd. Things don't really pick up until about 11 so don't get there too early.

Every first Saturday of the month is hip hop night. All other nights the music is more house or techno. Not a place where you'll ever have to put up with the latest Britney hit.

Neighborhood can get a bit rough (saw 3 large fights last weekend) but overall vibe of the actual club is great and the outside is a bit sketchy with blacked out windows, etc but the overall vibe is really laid back and fun.

If you're into hip hop, this place is one of the places you might want to check out. Drinks are really cheap compared to downtown (maybe 5 bucks a drink). The crowd is more of the 21-25 crowd. The place gets really packed, and with that comes that sweaty feeling. It gets really stuffed in there. They have a pool table, which I think is in the way of people trying to dance.

Although it's located in a quite sketchy area, I was actually very impressed with this club. They played awesome hip-hop and there's quite a crowd over here.The drinks were fairly inexpensive ( a lot cheaper than downtown gaslamp). There's booths and the decor was pretty cool. Only thing is that if you use credit card, you have to spend a minimum certain dollar amount. So bring cash!
