In Short
This long, narrow space has weathered oak planks on the floor, exposed wood beams on the ceiling and coarse brick walls. A bar near the front serves as a focal point and seating is either at black booths or blond-wood chairs set up against stark stainless-steel tables. For happy hour or intimate dining, sample dishes from the sharable plates menu, including the masa-fried oyster tostadas with their colorful presentation. Plantain-crusted shrimp is dusted in ground plantain chips and deep-fried. The tropical mahi mahi with lemongrass cream is sided by grilled hoisin bananas and coconut rice. Tres leches is ponge cake in caramelized milk and cajeta.

Key Points

  • Award Winning Food & Cocktails
  • Great Happy Hour!
  • Events & Private Parties!

The Inside Scoop

  1. Happy Hour - Weekday happy hour (4pm to 7pm) is considered one of the city's best; all of the award-winning appetizers are half-price, as are specialty drinks.
  2. The Extras - The semiprivate dining area seats 25 and is a great party spot.

Brunch is Great, best service!

by jkev

Saba's brunch is really great. Not too busy and the food is fantastic. Three friends and I have the chiliquiles, migas, crepes. Also the Neptune Benedict was perfect from the poached eggs to the lumped crab meat. I would recommend to friends and family.

Pros: Service, Food, Ambiance

Dreamy Blue

by alsace_h

This restaurant was a really nice addition to our dining list during our last trip. Had a warm feel with great paintings and a huge blue glass wall...nice touch. All of the food and drinks we bought were fantastic and the service was fast and helpful. I will probably make it a point to go back next time I am back in Austin.

Pros: Environment, food & drinks, Service A+

Cons: Had to wait 20m, parking

My favorite!

by jen_k_austin

Saba has been around a while and it has always retained a classy atmosphere and mature patrons. The bar staff is really friendly and service is always right on! You can even sit at the bar while you wait for your friends to show up without feeling totally awkward because the staff will talk to you and keep you company. Fabien and his team rock at Saba!

Great New Year's

by ab127

Saba was by far the best place we went on New Year's. A fair cover charge got us in. For our money we got a great DJ with blazing tunes, a bottle of champagne at our table, and lots of hot ladies dancing. I liked the balloons, must have been 1000's, nice touch. Fast bartenders too.

A great experience

by apow

I found Saba on a night out with my girlfriends in the Warehouse District. It was fantastic. We had the Tempura Tuna, Lobster Shoots, Empenadas (sp?) and split the Paella. I can't say a bad thing about any of the food, it was perfect. The staff was professional and very fast in service. It was clear to me that they were having a bit of fun too. We drank a bottle of Dynamite with dinner and enjoyed a Chocotini with Carmel made by the bar. Ummmm. I also like the fresh decor and the fish tank. The DJ was also good and the music fit the scene. Lots of good looking guys and gals there.

Pros: Service, Food and Drink, Ambiance

Cons: Had to wait 10 minute

Well Done

by acoste

I went to Saba last Friday and it was beyond expectations. The atmosphere was warm and relaxing, a great place to hang with my buddys and enjoy the drinks. Lots of great looking ladies to meet. We ate several appetizers and shared some entrees, really good. Top quality drinks too. I recommend the Rojo Mojito. Will be back again and again.

Pros: Service, Drinks, Food

Cons: Busy busy

Mojitos

by ppwelsh

Best Mojitos is Austin, bar none. I am working on drinking each one of the 1000's of variations. One of the cooler places to hang out. Beyond the drinks, the music is phenominal. Can you find a cooler place that plays everything from Portishead to Samba to Moby...acid jazz, house, and Reggae.

Pros: Drinks, Atmosphere, Staff

Cons: Busy

Bachelorette Central

by blueeye72

I have hosted three bachelorette parties at Saba this year. WOW! It is a great place to start a night out and a better place to finish it. The staff goes above and beyond to make everything perfect and even allowed us to bring in our own cakes. The martini's are prefect and the food is superbe. The parties had 25+ girls and our table was waiting each time. Great music and hot artwork make Saba the top of my list in Austin.

Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere

Not good for groups

by nyago

I made reservation for 6:30pm for 8 people. We waited till 7:30 and gave up because they couldn't even tell us when we can get a table. And at the end, the manager had the nerve to tell us that it was our fault for not coming eariler....like at 4pm! Don't go there if you have more than 2 people in your party.

Saba Nights

by charstrick

I have been going to Saba for over a year. I find the decor fantastic with the blue Saba wall and origional artwork. The food is to die for and is very fresh. I also like the staff who seem to be having as much fun as the guests are. Their happy hour has the best mojitos and calamari I have tasted in my travels and the late night is a super chic place for a drink.

Pros: Food, Decor, Staff

Cons: No lunch service

Happy Happy Hour

by natenate

Happy hour at Saba is the bomb. If you don't get enough of the calamari and tempura tuna, you can always stay for dinner. I took a b-day party there a few weeks ago and the ensured that all had a great time. Kudos and I'll definately be back.

Pros: Party enablers, Cool Music, Food Food Food!

Cons: Huh?

I LOVE Saba

by pyramidias

Saba is a constant favorite for Happy Hour especially. Wonderful food/drinks/atmosphere, and the waitstaff is so good. Defintely a great place to go, without being pretentious. I've always had good experiences at Saba, whether HH, dinner, or just drinks. I love this place. I only wish they would fix the blue bubble fountain- so beautiful and adds to ambience. Maybe a fund-raiser? I would contribute!

Pros: Food, Drinks, Waitstaff

Cons: , Crowded

It's fab!

by sarasco

Saba is a great place to go after work or on the weekends with a bunch of friends. The drinks are excellent (mojitos, apple ginger martinis) as is the food. I think that this is some of the best calamari in town, and the big platter of it is only $3 at happy hour! It's a long-time favorite of ours before the theatre or a night of bar-hopping. It's quiet before the big singles crowd arrives around 9 on the weekends. After that, it's usually packed with a fun, attractive crowd. Occasionally the service is spotty, but when it's not, it's usually excellent.

Pros: happy hour, atmosphere, consistent quality

Cons: smoky late at night, hard to get a seat, big group=impossible

Great Place and Service!!!

by LouLou27

I was recently at Saba for a bachelorette party. It was a great place to start the night off. A couple of apps and drinks was a great start for us. The service was superb and they treated us as if we were stars! I was very impressed at the extra service for our special occasion. None was expected and it was a great pleasure.
I will continue to stop by especially when I visit Austin.

Pros: Great Apps, Great atmosphere, Trendy

Cons: Too dark

smoky the bar

by cbschwartz

I really love the food & wine at Saba. But the last time I went it was really smoky. I thought restaurants/bars had no smoking unless there were separate rooms. No separation here.....everyone left stinking of smoke. I hope they ban smoking. Until then I'll be eating & drinking elsewhere.

Pros: good food, great wine, nice look

Cons: smokey, smokey, smokey

Saba Paella!

by craenor

Reasonable prices, great atmosphere and a very nice selection of drinks makes Saba Blue Water Cafe a great stop on your trip around downtown. But don't miss out on one of the best dinner entree's in all of Austin. The Saba Paella was to die for!

Tasty Treats

by merrymugs

I went there with a group of friends on a Friday evening and we tried a bunch of their appetizers. The complimentary shrimp chips was a nice and unique touch. We sampled about 6 dishes and loved the tuna tempura and mu shu pork. Service was a little spotty but overall was friendly and adequate. The waitress seemed to disappear when we were looking for the check.

Pros: menu, atmosphere

Every course better than the last!!!

by SeanF

We have rarely been to a restaurant where every course was as impressive or more so than the last. Saba does exactly that. The appetizers were great, the spinach salad to die for, the pork tenderloin and mahi mahi entrees were even better, and the key lime creme brulee an amazing climax for your tastebuds. We will come back to Saba again and again.

Pros: too many to list

Cons: poor parking, cigaratte smokey

Got $3? let's go!

by pangurban

Saba's happy hour is the best-kept secret in town. From 4-7PM, all their specialty drinks (mmm... Mojitos) and most of their apps are $3. It's all delicious, but do try the Mu Shu and the Quesadillas. At this price, you can eat, drink, and be very, very merry in a much cooler space than those pennies could get you anywhere else.

Pros: yummy, cheap, cool

Cons: happy hour ends

Great for dates

by nathanstull_citysearch

Saba is good for meeting people and taking dates. The happy hour scene is packed and there's plenty of other places around if you want to move on. I like the decore of Saba, with the one big blue-lit wall. I find the food very good, but a little over priced.
