The recent opening of this new "Bistro"-style restaurant in Main Street, Mesa was a welcome addition to an area starved of fine-dining experiences. Reasonable prices, hours and menu selections point to a good start.
3Alright, so we miss the coffee shop / caterie, but de la Cruz has a bar that serves out coffees of all kinds as well as a nice wine list -- and they're open regular, predictable and long hours (unlike this location's predecessor). Conveniently located kitty-corner to Mesa Arts Center, this home-grown, family-owned Mexican Fusion eatery has a lovely candle-lit ambiance. The service is a little rough, but well on its way to being full upscale. When you go, let the chef recommend how well to cook the meat -- he's that good -- and don't miss the smashed potatoes and secret recipe gravy; and i'm from the South -- i know from gravy!! This is one of those "special" night places -- a little pricey, but well worth it for impressing a date before taking him or her to a show or the art gallery across the street at the Mesa Arts Center. Splurge a little -- you'll be glad you did.
