Chloe Rocks!

by diane f.

I came to studio 229 looking for a new hair style and Chloe gave me the best color and cut that I have ever got. She was very professional and my hair is so easy and the color is so beautiful. I highly recommend her.

Hip Spot on Broadway

by Heather T. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,410

I have been seeing Eysia for almost 2 years and I never plan on going anywhere else. I get a great cut and style, good hair salon conversation and a great price ($45). The only negative is parking but it is worth it and fun to be up in the cap hill shopping area.

Great place for a facial

by molliecurran

Mosk was all about making the experience seamless as he matched my individual skin needs with the ayurvedic products he used. He incorporated massage technique at various points throughout my facial leaving me feeling 'out of body' wonderful.

Pros: Gorgeous setting

I'm so ready for summer!

by iklindo

Let me start off by saying, I am one of those people that always sees something better a few days AFTER I get something done. I got my hair lightened by Chloe, the dark brown color gave way to a rich, almost red color. I LOVED IT, but then realized I had nothing to wear with my new hair color that didn't make me look washed out, my navy blue uniform just wasn't cutting it. Stupid right?! Well that's me! So back to Chloe I went, and after a quick consultation with Chloe (and the owner Deanna, sorry if I spelled it wrong) we were off on round two.

Perfection! My brown hair was back, but this time it was a little lighter with all the red tones poking thru! I can't tell you how many compliments I have gotten over the past two weeks. And at 37 I'm starting to feel the need for as much help as I can get.

I also got my eye lashed darkened and my eye brows waxed at 229 by Mosk. He did such a great job! And once again just being me here, I would rather let my eyebrows grow together in an epic hedge style unibrow before I let just any strip mall goto touch me with cotton and wax.

I have found a wax man and a colorist in Seattle. I have yet to get my hair cut at 229, I am trying to let it grow out. But this is the place I will get it done when the time comes!

Thanks everyone at 229...

Pros: Laidback, intuitive, professional and friendly

Cons: non really...

Chloe is SO incredible!

by synergy1

Others agree that Chloe is totally off the chain. If you are tender-headed, she is certainly the stylist for you. She is super gentle.

Her sweet southern charm combined with her knowledge and professional skills will keep you coming back. Although she is creative and masterful, she will not talk you into getting something that you didn?t want. She listens to her clients and offers suggestions from her perspective and background.

Before you know it, you will be one happy customer.

I just love her so much! I?m sure you will too. Studio 229 is one of the best salons around. It is encapsulated in a wonderful location with all the latest features. What a treat! I love getting my money?s worth, and Chloe will save you a bundle. Check out the 10% off and other discounts available.

Don?t forget to mention that you read her review here. If agree with me, please post feedback.

Pros: Colors incredible, well-defined, feel good about yourself

Capital Hill Treasure!

by GypsySpirit

Ashley Yeager is the reason I went to Studio 229 to have my hair colored and cut. I heard from friends that she is simply the best! I made the appointment and when I got there, I found 'studio 229' to be a great space, natural classy vibe - and then I met Ashley! She's awesome - told her what I wanted, we talked, she had great suggestions and as she started working on my hair, I knew I was in good professional hands.. Gotta tell ya, I've had lots of color and cuts done to my hair but never have been treated as well as Ashley treated me, she kept me comfortable, so easy to talk to and best of all what she did for my hair - I felt gorgeous! When I looked at my finished hair, I fell in love with the color and cut - I will be definitely be going back, glad I found my new 'hair place'.
I've been recommending Ashley Yeager and Studio 229 to everyone who asks me about my hair - can't help it, I want to share the fun - I just love having great hair and now everyone else can have great hair too!!

Pros: Awesome Hair Care in a Fun Classy Salon

BEST HAIRCUT EVER

by Dale2009

Back in June this year, 2008, I, a male, went to what I thought was a high end salon. By their prices you would think this was the case. I told the girl what I wanted done and even had a picture of the cut I wanted. Now I realize that this new cut would not look exactly like the picture, but I thought it would give her a general sense of what I wanted. Boy was I wrong. It then took 6 months for my hair to grow out before I could get it cut again. This time though, I read the reviews of Studio 229 first. then made an appt. with Elysia for a consultation. Best thing I ever did. During the consult, she was very up front with me in regards to the picture I had, the same one as before, and how my hair would not look just like the picture, but I knew she knew, what I wanted done. The next day I made an appt. and a few days later was sitting in her chair. I don't mind saying that I was a little nervous. When she was done, and I looked in the mirror, I was so relieved. She got it and gave me the best haircut I have ever had. Thanks Elysia.

Pros: Awesome cut and great stylist.

Phenomenal cut and color

by alexmontalvo

After relocating to Seattle I was faced with the usual dilema...whose going to cut and color my hair to make me look better than I deserve? Honestly, packing suitcases and boxes is easier. Thank god for the internet...after reading all these amazing reviews, I gave this place a try. Deanna (the owner) really sets the tone for this great space. Fun, personable and a top notch professional.

The place is spacious, clean and the staff is warm...no attitude or pretentiousness here. Now for the haircut and color. Phenomenal! I am able to style it several ways, the color lasted longer than any other place I've been to, the free maintenance cut is a great bonus. I used to get my hair cut and colored every 3 wks just to keep it really nice (kinda obssesive...) now I can go 5 weeks with the complimentary maintenance cut by the end of the third week. Now that is a great value.

And it's really fun to go there, seriously. I've been to many salons that were really nice but there was always an air of tension, or drama or both (maybe because I'm originally from LA (duh...!) You feel relaxed and pampered here. My partner also got an awesome hair cut and color from Chloe...she's wonderful, but I'll let him speak for himself.

Thank you Studio 229 for making me feel and look my best.

Pros: exceptional cut and color, warm, personable and upbeat attitude-fabulous customer service

Cons: none

Finally - I'm Blonde, Blonde, Blonde Again; a SPECIAL THANKS to Chole of studio 229

by lonedisoniv

What is it with those other "so-so" hair cut and coloring specialists, that just can't get it right? You tell them what you want, you pay up the ying yang, and two weeks later... ohh, what happened?

My first visit to studio 229, and my post-maintenance experience puts the others to shame. Chole got it right both the first and second times around. You walk in and are greeted with respect and kindness. The studio is upstairs overlooking Broadway. A place of calm!

My partner and I, who has his hair done by studio 229 owner, DeAnna, were recently complimented by a neighboring business employee who complimented, "Guys, you two have the best hair!"

So, instead of the scary mousey brown I was getting from the competition, I got what I asked for, and exactly what I wanted.

All I can say is, call, make an appointment, go in, get pampered, and walk out looking FAB!

Pros: Great value, attentiveness, quality, and consistency.

Cons: None

Most professional, most fun

by maechappel

I have been going to Studio 229 since it opened so I have always known what a jewel this place is. I used to be able to get in at any time but now many others have discovered this place and I have to make appointments well in advance. Still it is worth it and I have flown from Arizona and California many times to get my hair done there. I have never found a place that comes close to giving me the great haricuts and color this place does. DeAnna rocks!!!

Pros: staff, ambience, service

Cons: parking

Chloe is awesome!

by jessicazeller

This place is a hidden treasure! The atmosphere is chill while still being in the middle of the action on Broadway. And Chloe is so rad! My hair was kinda blah when I first went to see her. She told me right away that she wanted to make my hair more fit my look and personality, which is tattoos and rock & roll. She helped me push my boundaries with the cut and it turned out so rockin! And the color she suggested was just perfect! I got second looks on the street and compliments from strangers, which is always a good sign! On top of being the sweetest little southern bell, she'll be my stylist for life!

Pros: Warm personable staff with great consultation skills, awesome color choices

Cons: None!

Studio 229 rocks!!

by ejbetty

Listen up people!!!
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about my time spent at the lovely Studio 229.
Let me just start out by saying I have been back living in Seattle now for just about 3 years....and in that 3 years I have been to over 10 different salons/barber shops/spas etc. looking for that perfect girl (or adorable gay boy as the case may be) to not only do exactly what I ask for, but to have that rare, inate sense of just how I want my hair to look.
And believe me there has been some major bumps along the way.
Then I stumble into Studio 229. I sweet little salon nestled in the very heart of Capitol Hill....(also a salon that has been there for 18 years) which happens to give me a sense of comfort.
I came into Salon 229 for a specific reason, to get hair extentions.
As anyone might guess this is quite a long process, so I spent the majority of my day here.
This Salon has a super cute vibe, beautiful paint job(think deep purple's & rusty golds) and super fun stylists that arent pretentious in any way!! The wonderful woman that did my hair Ms. Deanna(or as I like to call her Mama D) was RAD! She was super fun to talk and hang out with while extremely quick and efficient in getting the job done(I would think it would be a tedious task, but she did it with strength and ease). Leaving the end result with me litterally throwing my head around like I was in one of those Pantene comercials.
The color, the style, and that fact that the extentions blended so well with my real hair has won me completely over. My search for the perfect hair salon has ended with Salon 229."

Pros: Awesome lighting, great customer service and attitude, relaxed comfortable vibe.

Cons: nope.

Elysia rocks

by dharmadh

I moved to Seattle last year and dreaded the prospect of finding a new stylist... I'd lived in LA for 2yrs and it took me 1.5yrs to find a good one. As luck would have it, the first place I called was Studio 229 and Elysia had a slot open. Every haircut i've gotten (over the past 9mos) has been awesome and maintenance cuts are free. Also, after each cut, Elysia makes a point to schedule my next maintenance and haircut - thank god, because I always wait too long and end-up annoyed with my hair... no longer thanks to Elysia's scheduling approach. Love her. ASK FOR ELYSIA, you wont be dissappointed.

Pros: Elysia

Cons: parking, a little pricey for men's haircuts but worth it

UPSCALE TOPNOTCH BEST SALON

by danniel

I called Studio 229 and made an appt. to have my hair foiled and cut on a Saturday. Okay, I had to wait a couple of weeks. Wow, was it worth the wait! Deanna gave me the most stunning color I have ever had. Every single day someone compliments me on my hair. I love it! The contrast of color along with the shine after a hair color is amazing. I'm not sure how she diid it but it is beautiful. The cut also compliments the color framing my face so well. I am truelly in love with my new do.

fun, fabulous hair salon on Capital Hill

by pamrudee

I've been going for years and love the atmosphere-it's comfortable, upbeat, up to date and just fun to hang out there . . My stylist, Courtney is fantastic and I finally let him do what he's wanted to do for ten years-cut short my reddish bob and bleach it! scarey but my daughter came with me to make sure I let him do his "magic". It took me several days to love it but have to tell you, EVERYONE loved it-even a stranger came up to me and complimented my hair! I just went in again for another cut-this time shorter and scarier but once again I've received many compliments and again I love it! For a short time I went to a more convenient location downtown slated as one of the best hair salons and as they were very good, Studio 229 is just as good for half the cost. (hope they don't read this.) not to mention a fun time on Capital Hill!

Awesome color and haircut best customer service

by kjanson10a

I found Studio 229 on this web site and decided to give them a try and they gave me the most awesome new hair cut and color that I have had in years. They totally updated my look. After trying several other places in Seattle that I was unhappy with I am so glad that I finally found this place. They were so sweet and treated me with respect. My stylist listened to me and consulted for a long time before just jumping in and doing whatever she wanted. Thank you!!! I will be back.

Hairlocs

by jennifer_marsh

I made an appointment with Deanna to get my extentions tightened. Speaking to her on the phone before confirming the appt. we talked about in detail what I needed done. I drove 2 hours, arrived on time, only to be told she didn't have enough knowledge of my hair to prepare for the appointment (told her on the phone) I needed to buy new hair (mine is only 6 weeks old, told her on the phone) and she didn't have enough time to do my whole head (confirmed 150 strands on the phone) Once I was visibly annoyed by her lack of knowledge and professionalism, I was asked not to be "p___." (Apparently I can not write the word she used on this review.) On that note, I asked her to remove the cape and drove 2 hours home. I would advise confirming that you DO in fact need your entire head styled, tightened, cut, etc. before making an appointment with Studio 229. I always thought the customer was number one... Not in this case.

Spunky funkiest hair cut ever

by spunkyfunk

People stop me in the street, in the supermarket, at the mall, at work....pretty much ANYWHERE....unfortunately not to ask me out on a date, but because of my hair cut! Every time I say the same: "Thank you. Studio 229, Capitol Hill, ask for Elysia, she'll make you feel like a hot new mama!" Elysia knows what she's doing, she LOVES what she's doing and she's simply good at what she's doing. Say "spunky, funky, different, colored, leave snippets here, cut mullet in the back", she'll create something spunky out of the saddest hair cut out there. I used to pay mega bucks for a hair cut from Toni&Guy (top notch European hair stylists) while living abroad and was worried I'd never find somebody to cut my hair this well again. Also, I love the atmosphere at Studio 229. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere and a nice view of the daily hustle and bustle on Capitol Hill. Two thumbs way up!

Pros: Ambience, Skills, Friendly Customer Service

Cons: Parking can be a b...., but hey, it's worth it!

Worst Hair cut EVER

by elorlasrever

If i had wrote this after my first hair cut here it would have been glowing, but my second trip was horrible! The same girl cut my hair but did such a bad job I actually cried- and I do not get upset easily. It was less than shoulder length and had an almost 2 inch difference in layers on either side. Which is MASSIVE on hair that short. Also i asked for the "side swept bangs" and she cut one side of my bangs about an inch long and the angled the other to just above my eyebrow, and added layers to make them really, thick and puffy. Its taken months to grow out and it still looks wierd. She couldnt understand why i didn't like it, i told her it was uneven, she blamed my hair then started chopping randomly with thining shears (i have very straight, fine hair by the way) in an attempt to make the sides match (instead of matching the layer length) Things were only getting worse so i told her to just stop. She still charged me $45, she never even showed me the back which i later learned she had cut into a zig zag!?
When i had my hair fixed the next stylist could not understand why anyone with any training at all would have cut my hair like that. she just shook her head saying "what was she possibly thinking? why would anyone do this?"

Excellent, efficient and professional work by Elysia!

by mgrenz

229 has a great, warm atmosphere. Many fine experts on their staff for many things like color, dreads, cuts and (I hear) waxing. I'm sure each of them is an expert in their own right, but I personally suggest Elysia. She is freindly, efficient, quick and thorough. Is very easy to tell her what you would like done and see it come together quickly, showing a great dedication and enthusiasm that shows her 10+ years of experience.
With so many overrated and unprofessional salons out there, It's great to see Elysia and the excellent staff at 229 remind us all what a great hairdressers can do!
Props, folks! Keep up the fine work!

Pros: Freindly staff, warm atmosphere, inviting area

Cons: Parking not so conveinant, but that's what happens in major Metros!

I have been going to Jessica for years. She's taken my hair from super short and highlighted to long with amazingly complex colors. She is a true genius. I have never had a hair-dresser that is so in-tune with what I want, and more importantly what I need. Her cuts are great - her color is spectacular - and, on top of it, she is a great person. I always look forward to hair appointment day!

Heidi is AMAZING!

by htherd

I never trusted anyone with my hair because I always received the WORST haircuts. One day I made an appointment at Studio 229 and got Heidi. I feel SO lucky because Heidi did such a spectacular job creating a hairstyle that fit my face and met my specifications. I have been going to Heidi for several years now because she makes it a point to remember the specifics of your hair (mine has a lot of idiosyncrasies) and correct anything you dislike. I would rather not have a haircut for a year than go to anyone else (and this has happened)! I have also recommended her to several people and EVERY ONE of them has loved her work.

Pros: Friendly stylists, Trendy atmosphere, Great value

Excellence

by relombardo

I can't say enough good about Deanna and her salon. I had lost hope that there was truly consistantly talented stylists anywhere. It's just ashame it has taken so many years for me to find it. If you are like me, your hair is a huge part of feeling good about yourself. I've been to many of the so called "top stylists" in Seattle. I have finally found the best of the best. I also have recommended many people there. Everyone who has gone has been more than pleased and continue to go back as I have. No matter what age group or what your personal style is you will be more than pleased. Thank you, Deanna, for being so wonderful! Oh yeah, by the way, I found this place on Citysearch.

Stylists that are TALENTED - what a notion!

by jroanddiddlefrog

Well, clearly everyone loves Trista, Jessica, and Cali. But my stylist is Heidi. Reason: she is actually talented. She has the eye to take what I suggest and re-work it (when necessary) into something that suits my face, my coloring, my hair texture, and my personality (ie. I am lazy about my hair). She has never let me down. I have been visiting Studio 229 since 2001. In those years, I spent some time in Pittsburgh, PA. I made the mistake of going to another salon in Pittsburgh and the woman there BUTCHERED my color. It was awful. I left a pathetic, teary message on the Studio 229 voice mail. Heidi rescued me. She called and actually MAILED ME the coloring to repair it dye-job myself along with gloves, applicator bottles, etc. She does amazing work, is a great conversationalist, and is truly talented.

Pros: Talented Staff, Nice location, Resident dog :)

Cons: No parking

Run!

by hellobest

I decide to try the owner. The cut was awful the color wasn't decent either. The layering was done in such a manner that my hair is chopped up. My hair is so short in areas, to have it properly shaped, it would have to be very short. Given the many different lengths... I have to style my hair an inch at a time. The shorter hair won't wrap around a round brush or curling iron. Never offered me a robe to change out of my sweater. As she was chopping away hair was falling in my eyes, lips, down the back of my neck and all over my sweater. Very Unprofessional. Not a bogus review.

Pros: None, None, None

Cons: parking, cut, color

After being betrayed by my stylist, for the last time, I decided to jump ship and go else where. My best friend referred me to Studio 229. I recieved the best highlight and cut I've had in a long time by Trista. She payed attention to what I was asking for and made suggestions to better taylor it to my hair. Since, she hadn't done my hair before she didn't get too crazy on it. She did a wonderful job and I can't wait to go more cazy next time. GO TO TRISTA AT STUDIO 229!!!

Trista strikes again

by nataworry

Review #2 from me...why? Because it's so challenging to find a great stylist and I finally found one so I feel compelled to give Trista some kudos one last time.

I waltzed into the salon last Friday and gave Trista minimal input as I was dead tired. I kept telling her how much I trusted her and that she could do pretty much whatever she wanted in terms of highlights and a cut. The result? I am thrilled with my hair yet again. Thrilled.

Last but not least - I was half asleep when she finished and I could barely muster up the energy to check myself out in the mirror so I wasn't exactly raving about how much I loved my hair. Trista - I hope this review finds you and that you can take to heart how much I appreciate how talented you are. Cheers.

after 12 dorkie haircuts in a row in seattle, that belong on some dork in dockers and rei-wear, i found studio 229. deana fixed my retarded haircut, and i've gone back twice. the babes are back at my door thanks to this place.
it's on the only street with any flavour in seattle, broadway.

Trista is the best!

by makenz

I started going to studio 229 about 6 months ago, unhappy with my same old style my sister recomended me to Trista. So I made an appointment and when i got there Trista was extremely nice and the salon was very inviting. Instead of telling Trista what I wanted her to do, I told her to go ahead and do whatever she wanted to do to my hair! And an hour later I left with the hair cut that I have gotten the most complements from everyone, even complete strangers! She is the best, if you want a great new style from somone that takes your face shape and style into consideration then go to Trista! She is the best!

Deanna

by sheryla

I came to Deanna with horrible hair and color. She took the time to explain the different options I could try and helped me with my selections. My hair is healthy again! Ive been going to Deanna for a long time and I always get a good haircut and color. And the products she sells are topnotch. My hair has never been healthier. I have always found Deanna to be honest, professional, warm, friendly, fair, and fun. And the people that work there exude these same qualities. I love going to Studio 229 and always feel right at home. Thank you Deanna for doing such a first-rate job on my hair! You are the best!

Pros: Professional, Knowledgeable, Friendly

THE BEST COLOR AND CUT I'VE EVER HAD!!!

by mb2

WOW!!! What a great place! I found the staff to be very proff. My hair color was drab and my cut was boring. A friend told me to go and see Deanna. She took such good care of me. She changed my whole look. My confidence has improved 100%. Plus, she made me laugh. What a good time. She took her time in consulting me, showing me how to fix my hair so I can make it look like she does everyday. Thank you Studio 229----Melissa

Pros: good view, priced right, professional

Unskilled and Unprofessional

by bisousbebe

The owner colored my hair and did a terrible job. I ended up with the top of my hair with an orange tint and the bottom half was black. I was going for dark burgundy and very explicit about this request. Plus, she charged me more than she originally quoted. I had to go to another salon to get my hair fixed! I was also disappointed with the lack of professionalism and poor customer service. I recommend AMY at SALON SEVEN.

Cons: Unskilled, Bad Customer Service, BR in Shared Hallway

I picked this place because of the citysearch.com reviews. Now, I regretted so much, my haircut is awful.

What a relief!

by eugmyers

After moving to Seattle from San Diego five months ago, I have put off getting my hair cut. I had a long-term stylist in San Diego and I was afraid I would never be able to replace her. I found Studio 229 on citysearch and was led to Trista - I called and she got me in the next day! From the moment I walked in the door I was greeted and she took me back right way - I was even 15 minutes early! She consulted with me and I instantly trusted that she would give me a great cut. I was right, she helped me find the perfect cut - Thanks Trista! The atmospher is laid back and professional - not stuffy and pretentious. You wil feel at ease - what a relief that I have found me new stylist here in Seattle!

Pros: warm, discreet, friendly

I love my hair!!

by dgardunia

Jessica has been coloring/cutting my hair for almost 2 years and she has never steered me wrong! I wanted a little funkier color than what my last colorist would do for me. I saw a girl at a bar with cool hair and she gave me Jessica's name. I've been going to her ever since. She's creative and because she does cut & color, she can cut my hair to most effectively show off the color plus the cut is very flattering to my face shape and hair type. I have sent friends there too who are still clients. They also do a great bikini wax!

Pros: Talented staff, Reasonable prices, Fun atmosphere

Cons: parking isn't great, closed Sunday/Monday

Gold Star

by stefan

I was in need of a stylist that didn't automatically reach for the number 2 clippers and buzz everything up to my crown. A friend recommended I see Karen. His hair can be hard to cut, so I knew if he was satisfied, that I would be too. Everyone is very friendly and extremely easy on the eyes!
