Great experience

by steakum

Dining area is in the upstairs of the restaurant, with a nice lounging area in the downstairs/entrance level.
I was there for dinner with a friend. The service was very attentive, with the manager (owner?) coming over to check on us during our meal. Food was very well prepared, with the spices just right. The tandoori chicken seemed a bit dry, but the spices/sauce and other dishes were near perfect and made up for it. Overall a very pleasant dining experience. Would make a great spot to bring a date too.

Pros: attentive service, nice atmosphere

Five stars all around

by iammacey

We had lunch at Nirvana and it was, by far, the best Indian food. In addition, the service was truly excellent. Really top notch! We are vegans and so our waiter helped us make selections from the menu and also made substitutions where appropriate. The restaurant is very cozy and the atmosphere was buzzing with other customers enjoying their lunch as well. Definitely worth the visit!

Pros: Food choices, service, ambience, very cozy.

Cons: None

Delightful and Amazing!

by VCap0820

Oh my goodness, I absolutely love this restaurant. It is very important to us that when we eat out (especially now) that we choose a place that you have a good combo; good food, good service and the feeling of warmth and welcome! Thank you for making us happy. Can't wait to return. I am planning to have a girls night here and a special party for my boss that is retiring! You guys are really fantastic.

Exquiste Indian Food

by newyorker14

We first dined in Nirvana about 2 months ago and have been there 5 times since! . By far, the best Indian food I have had in the city. Everthing about this place is perfect, starting with its location, but my favorites were in the appetizer menu - truly delicious. Do try the malai lamb, which I would rate as the best.
The ambience of the place is very calming and relaxing, with a lounge in the ground floor and a comfortabe and stlishly done up upper floor for dining. The staff are very friendly and provide excellent service. A must visit place in the city.

Pros: Food, Location, Ambience

Cons: Can't think of any ...!

A Must to Experience - If you are impressed with Excellence!

by AD1964

I decided to use this restaurant to cater my New Year's Eve party. Their website and philosophy first impressed me. Then I met the owner Anil. He really understands the meaning of service and excellence. I looked around and the place is beautifully decorated. I can't wait to eat in. Nirvana's food is exquistie Indian cuisine. My guest went on and on about how good the food was. When I came to pick up the food it was freshly prepared and packed, then at least three servers brought it out to my car and packed it in. The meat is tender and succulent. The spices are fresh and the chuntney is unbelievable! I cannot recommend Nirvana enough, what a perfect name. Thank you for helping to make my party a success.

Pros: The food, the service

Cons: I have not dined in but had catering for 20 people

DIVINE

by allion

Nirvana made my would have been 'dull' christmas eve a Night to Remember. Stumbled upon this place whch looked fancy and new, as I was strolling by the neighborhood. Entered in and was greeted and treated special. I had a few glasses of wine, the staff were so friendly and charming it made me feel so comfortable. I had their lamb potato croquettes and rosemary malai kabab for appetizers and then Lamb Nalli gosht for dinner with nan. The best word to describe my entire experience is "DIVINE". All the best Nirvana.

A place to visit again

by DarkKnight123

Last night I went to this restaurant after reading a few reviews on City Search and Yelp and I found this place live up to all those reviews. The food was very delicious and in my opinion does rank at the top.
The place in itself was very trendy with a cozy lounge on the ground floor and a high scale dining place on the first. I ordered their fish and just loved it. It was really soft and was flavorful. Spices were perfect and the texture was appropriate.

Pros: Great Food. Perfect place

Cons: none at this time

Cold Plates

by herstory

The food was delicious, but the plates were ice cold, so dinner soon became cold & less appetizing. The service was at best sporadic & the waiter brought the wrong bottle of wine chosen from the wine list by our host.

Pros: Good food/convenient location

Cons: Cold plates w/ spotty service

The top three reasons I go to this place again would be : 1. Food, 2. Food, 3. Food.
The quality and the taste of the food I found at this place is rare to find at other Indian restaurants

Best Indian Food / Pleasing and comfortable Ambiance

by Abrp

I was pretty excited to find this great indian place in Midtown...loved the food here..Mouth watering appetizers and great tasting food specially the Methi Mattar Malai happens to be my favorite now. Very friendly staff, prompt service, clean place. The interiors are very welcoming. They also have a great lounge area as you enter, best suited for long happy hours on those cozy leather couches with best shaken cocktails. Iam eagerly looking forward to visit again when i'm in the neighborhood.

Pros: Ambience, Service, Food

Cons: None discovered yet

Great place for family and friends

by Sophiaatnyc

This restaurant's interior brings to mind a feeling of freshness, very modern looking decor with clever play of light and a dark wood floor. At the end of the bar, the place extends like a welcoming cape with a beautiful fire place area and comfy sofas. The bar tender makes some extraordinary drinks with Mango juice. Very inviting place for group dinner or lunch AND their food is very delicious. Fish cooked in coconut sauce is amazing. I also tried lamb chops and it was very tender, well marinated and well cooked. I will definitely go back to this place with a lot of friends.

Pros: Nice Place to relax with friends and have a good time

Wonderful modern and cozy interiors, awesome food and service

by nyfoodie99

Nirvana is definitely one of it's kind in Indian restaurants.... the kind of place we've been looking for since long! It is nothing like the regular Indian restaurants - Nirvana has a modern lounge that serves excellent drinks and also has a fine dining hall upstairs. The food and service is great. I especially love their seafood dishes - so fresh and well cooked. The bar tender makes some awesome drinks - Nirvana Sunrise is my favorite - highly recommended!! The have some exotic game meat on their menu which I am definitely going back to try!! They have a really cool lounge - which is sooo rare in Indian restaurants. It is a perfect place to hang out for a few drinks (I hear they have happy hours too) and enjoy tasty appetizers. They have a dining hall upstairs which has a great ambience and also has a sunroof area that would be ideal for small group celebrations or just dining!! Wonderful place with awesome food for all age groups and palettes.

Pros: Location, Food, Ambience, friendly and professional service

Cons: have yet to find one

Grreat Place

by RMNYC

I read other reviews here and went to his place and found it pretty different from other typical indian places,
This place had an hip lounge which was amazing for after work drinks and the ambience was perfect. Bar tender knew her stuff and she made some good drinks . We had a few drinks at the lounge and we went to have our dinner upstairs.

I have never seen an Indian place with a hip lounge and a modern decored dining place,
The only thing I would recommend to nirvana is to keep the current friendly atmosphere up and just make sure the quality doesn't go down.

Pros: Great service great food perfect place

Cons: nothing right now

Give this a try!!

by SanRafael

We all know there are hundreds of indian cusines in NYC. But we all have the penchant to try new ones. And I have come across this one in Grand Central and since it's new, wanted to try this.

The place stands out for it's flair, first up. I did not imagine to have such a spacious place with such absolutely prefect decor judging it from the look outside. The lounge is hip. But the most important part to me is the bar/food. The concoction of drinks from Mango Juice is awesome. The food is refreshingly delicious!! I just hope that they keep up this standard and don't go the usual way of starting up high and never keeping up..

Give this a try!

Best Indian in NYC

by mncorielly

My friend and I went last night after finding Nirvana on opentable
the food was incredible, it is a long time since I have had so many good things to say about a new restaurant. We started with the samosas and and a potato and lamb croquet both were delicious we followed that with chicken Madras and shrimp bhuna I am still dreaming about the dishes!! The service was a little slow in the beginning but they are only 2 weeks old. If you are looking for great Indian you need to look no further!
