Small hip inner city restaurant. Good for a casual business lunch or a night out with friends. Salads sandwiches and gourmet burgers are the general menu items. It can be little pricey for the food/ portion size.

mediocre place
by checkerhead
I stopped by here to grab lunch after visiting my favorite spa next door, but was not really that impressed. I had some chicken sandwich, which was not all that impressive or memorable. I personally didn't care for the atmosphere so much either. It's loud, not very warm, and hard to find seating. Menu selection is small, and I think there are plenty of other places in town for healthy eats which are more tasty. Overall, I'd say if you happen to be in the area then go but otherwise not worth going out of your way to try.
Cons: parking

Gone downhill
by cvm
I have been going to Ruggles Green since February and it used to be one of my favorite places in Houston. Recently I have been very disappointed and after my last experience, I don't think I'll go back.
The food is not as fresh as it used to be, and it seems like whoever is preparing it doesn't care as much as they did in the past. What used to be my favorite salad was so awful the last time, I didn't even finish half of it. My husband ordered shrimp and they tasted and smelt fishy.
Shame.

lackluster food, depressing ambience
by luli_brooks
Admittedly, I went here the first week it was open, but it was so blah I've never wanted to go back. The food was bland compared to the usual Ruggles fare, and the menu's choices were not very inspired.
The absolute WORST cheesy soft rock I've ever been subjected to was playing non-stop, and the look of the place was uninspired.
Go to Ruggles Cafe in Rice Village instead. It has a nice porch and fantastic food.
Pros: the desserts are decent
Cons: boring entrees, terrible music

Great service, great food!
by sugard0t
A group of 3 of us visited Ruggles Green for the first time a few weeks ago. It was pretty packed, so we ended up sitting outside at one of the picnic tables. Each of us ordered a different sandwich/burger and they were all delicious! We were there chatting for a while and one of the nice staff members made us some watermelon cotton candy to enjoy (very impressive!).
Pros: Food and customer service
Cons: Limited parking and seating during peak times

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
by letmetellyou123
The food is good yet overpriced. It might even be worth overspending a little except for the fact that the customer service and management is horrible. The worse I have seen in a while.
I have eaten at other Ruggles locations and have never had any issues. I have eaten at the new Ruggles on Alabama st. diagnolly across from Whole Foods twice so far and I refuse to go back. My first experience, I was pressed for time. I called in a to go order one hour ahead of time letting them know I would not be able to pick up the to go order for about an hour, hoping they would simply have it ready for me by then so I could pick it up and go. When I got there to pick it up they told me they through it out because I ordered it an hour ago and they didn't think I was coming to pick it up. I made if very clear on the phone to the person taking the order. Seems like that would be something to note. I waited about 30 mins for my food so I was late getting to where I needed to go later that evening. They offered me a free dessert for the next time I came in. I didn't get anything on paper or even a name to redeem my dessert but had planned to never return anyway.
I made a bad choice of picking up lunch there today. I thought it had been long enough maybe I needed to try again. I ordered a house salad with grilled chicken to go. They said it would be ready in 10 minutes. I arrived 10 minutes later, paid, and they told me it would be right out. I happen to notice a black bag with a ticket on a shelf behind the counter, which looked like a to go order, and wondered why she didn't check to see if that could be mine. 20 mins later I finally went back to the counter to ask her to check on my salad because my lunch break was now almost over. She said they were checking on it now. She walks up and asked another employee about it the other employee looked at the black bag I saw when I first got there... It was my salad. Had been sitting there the entire time.
Pros: The food taste good
Cons: The worse customer service ever...over priced

Organic and Healthy with lots of flavor!!
by trendyfoodie
I'm already a big fan of Ruggles in general, but Ruggles Green tops them all!! Great food with lots of flavor and pleasant staff!! My girlfriend and I went for lunch 3 days ago and loved it so much we went back last night for dinner.
A great variety of items, I highly recommend the cuban pork panini, cream corn chowder, and calamari which was lightly battered. Vegetarians don't fret-- there's an excellent array for veggie fare.. I recommend the Veggie panini-- filled with flavor along with sweet potato sides!! It's gonna be my new hot spot!!
Pros: Great food, nice casual ambience, nice service, great value
Cons: very quaint, seating and parking are limited

fabulous!
by mary0220
if you haven't heard yet, Ruggles Green has opened on West Alabama (cross street Revere, near Pesce and Borders in the Upper Kirby district). I went tonight and ate Goat Cheese Salad, Quinoa Mac and Cheese, and Greek Pizza. The restaurant concept is all natural, organic, great tasting food and it truly lives up to it.
affordable: a pizza that is large enough for two is $14
earth friendly: i ordered it to-go, and the boxes the food came in were obviously recycled and almost no plastic used in the packaging. also, they use gas-efficient cars in their delivery service, and i read that they recycle all their waste.
unique: if you know ruggles, you know their food is not your usual burger with cheese fare. check out the menu, they have unusual items such as fish tacos and buffalo burgers.
gluten free: some items are listed as gluten free, and i have known a couple people who are allergic to gluten who can't eat anything but lettuce at most restaurants, so this is wonderful for them!
my only complaint is that seating is limited and it was very noisy on a sunday night. however, i can see the small size and low ceilings providing a very cozy atmosphere when there isnt a rush. also, the parking lot was almost full. But it was totally worth it because the food was fabulous and fresh!
Pros: delicous! healthy, earth friendly... i could go on!
Cons: loud when busy

Ruggles Green is also offering GLUTEN FREE alternatives!
by glutenfreechick
After being celiac for 3 years, I can tell you eating gluten-free in Houston is normally not much fun. There are very few restaurants that are knowledgeable about celiac disease and how careful they must be in order to avoid cross-contamination with gluten from other sources. Normally I end up with a plain salad with plain grilled chicken just to be on the safe side.
But Ruggles Green seem extremely promising to become my gluten-free haven! Not only have I had the Hudson Farm Chicken special with French-cooked style chicken and seasoned vegetables completely unaltered to fit my needs (hence, no gluten ingredients) three times over the last two weeks, I have also been back for the delicious Quinoa mac&cheese several times. The staff seem very aware of the issues that Celiacs have (although always ask specifically about each dish!). I spoke with the manager who told me they are also working on offering Gluten-free PIZZA in addition to gf BEER - I am so excited!!! If they pull that off, I don't think I'll eat anywhere else!! PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN! I will bring my whole family to eat there all the time!!
Pros: Delicious gluten-free meals! Value, location, general atmosphere!
Cons: None!!!

SO DELICIOUS... I just had to write my first review!!
by ecriner
I just got finished eating lunch at Ruggles Green and I have to say, I was truly impressed. I just had to rush back to the office to write a review. The food was delicious...I ordered the fish tacos and the staff were very happy to replace the fried fish with freshly grilled along with putting the sauce on the side. Everyone was very friendly! They even have stevia packets with the ice tea sweeteners. There's a fully stocked condiment bar (various mustards, ketchups...even braggs amino acids)! The staff was incredibly friendly and happy to help...and the hemp BROWNIE IS OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! The atmosphere is very comfortable and I felt like I was visiting a friend's home. It is so nice to have smiling faces serving up yummy food in a beautiful environment...using sustainable products and organic ingredients!

Awsome Concept and Food
by floydjunkie
I am a person that eats out 8-9 meals a week. I first went here on a business lunch and was a little worried that the food would be to healthy and weird. The food was awesome. Ruggles Green has found a way to make normal, great food that is healthy.
I also loved their green concept. While there, I talked to an owner that told me how they recycle all of their waste, recycle their oil and donate the carbon credit to charity, and are going to use electric cars for food deliveries. It is so nice to finally see a Houston restaurant care about the environment--while serving really great food.
I highly recommend this place to anyone. I also can not wait for the pizza oven to open. I love unique pizzas and it looks like Ruggles Green has them. Check them out!
Pros: It's like a fast-casual where you order at a counter and they deliver it to your table.
Cons: Pizza oven is not built yet.

Coolest new restuarant in Houston!
by cschace
I love this place. I had a green veggie nut burger and it was absolutely delicious. I also tried the hempenadas; which were so, so good. They just opened, so the brick pizza oven wasn't ready yet, but there were alot of unique and different items to choose from. Not all were vegetarian because I noticed they also had a buffalo burger and a cuban pork panini on the menu. I love Ruggles Green's concept. They recycle their vegetable oil and I heard they do deliveries via electric vehicle. I will definitely go back often.
Pros: Green, Casual and Freindly
Cons: None
