I cannot say enough good things about HSSEE. If you read no further than the next sentence. Holly Springs School for Early Education is the place to make sure your children are prepared for the school age years. We had 8 wonderful years at HSSEE and while we are excited to move to the school years, we are sad that we are leaving our HSSEE family. From tiny babies to eager to learn pre-schoolers our children were unconditionally loved. Kate and Amy and their staff are incredible, they love each of the children as if they were their own. Most of the programming that they do there amazes me, and really benefited my children. On top of all that HSSEE is award winning, multiple "Best Preschool" awards over recent years. You will not regret letting Kate, Amy and the staff of HSSEE take care of your kids.

My daughter had a very tough time adjusting but the teachers were really sweet and nurturing and gave me tips to ease the transition. They are very accommodating and truly love children.

The staff always listens and communicates with us and desires to resolve any concerns that we have had. It is very family friendly environment where they hold many activities throughout the year for family to be involved at the school.

The best thing about HSSEE is that the staff is very caring and open to discussions about our son's progress and needs. They have never made us feel that any of the concerns that we have voiced were not important.

Often my daughter will come home to tell me that she likes her teachers and they like her. Her counting has improved greatly this year, as well as number recognition.

I am the mother of a child that was enrolled in this facility from January 2011 until January 2012. We looked at about 4 other facilities in our search and decided on HSSEE because of its convenience to our home and the cost (it was lower than other schools that we looked at). We had a pretty good feeling about the school, but that ended quickly in January 2012. In June of 2011 a beloved teacher was terminated from HSSEE by the owner. I was curious because of the length of time that this teacher was at this facility so, I called the day after the termination and was told by the owner that she was let go mostly because of burnout and that she was beginning to lose patience with the children and it was just time for her to go. She assured me that no child was harmed. In January 2012, I was informed by a witness that my daughter was thumped in the mouth when she repeatedly dropped her breakfast and then she had her pants and diaper pulled down and was spanked. When I confronted the center director when we found out, she told me that this was the first time she has heard about this and even hinted that she may have been out of town and she "would have to check the schedule". At this meeting the director told us that maybe the owner knew about the incident and she would have the owner call us. Within 30 minutes of being home the owner called and talked to my husband and after much pressing the owner finally admitted that we (her and the center director) were told of the incident of my daughter being "patted too hard". I then proceeded to call North Carolina Division of Health and Human Services and file a complaint and per their investigation (that can be found on their website), it states that "this violation has been corrected as the staff member was terminated in June 2011, when the incident was reported to the owner and the center director". While I applaud the swift termination by the owner of this staff member, I am at a loss that they did not come to us and tell us what happened especially because it directly involved my daughter who was only 15 months old at the time of the incident. We quickly pulled our daughter because obviously the trust was gone. We just could not believe that they made us sign incident reports for every scratch, every time my daughter scratched another kid, but did not feel the need to tell us when their staff member put their hands on my daughter. I have had several other teachers from HSSEE tell me that they had heard what happened, but they were instructed to not say anything to any of the parents. I hope that they have learned a lesson and will be more honest about what happens when they think no one is watching.

Business Response:

Like any business owner, I take complaints about my business seriously. It's more than a business for me â?? it has been a large part of my adult life. I've been in the child care business for more than 20 years and have owned Holly Springs School for Early Education for more than 10. As the owner of a business which cares for children, I take complaints about my staffâ??s interaction with the children very seriously. I was not present in the school at lunchtime on June 27, 2011, but it was brought to my attention that one of the teachers may have acted inappropriately. I investigated immediately and determined by interviewing those who were present that the teacher had acted inappropriately by using a harsh tone of voice, pointing her finger in a childâ??s face, throwing away a childâ??s lunch, and patting some of the children roughly at nap time. At no time did either of the other teachers mention one childâ??s pants were pulled down or thumped in the mouth. At no time did I uncover evidence of abuse of this child or any other child under the teacherâ??s care. We have three teacherâ??s in the classroom. The conduct described above, however, did violate our company policies and I terminated the teacherâ??s employment that same day. â??the beloved teacherâ?ť had been with Holly Springs School for Early Education for over 6 years and many parents loved her work with their children through the years. This conduct was not at all typical of her usual performance. Nevertheless, I could not tolerate this breach of our policy. 8 monthâ??s later a disgruntled ex-employee informs you of something different. You state that there was some attempt to cover this matter up. Nothing could be further from the truth. I sent out a letter to all our parents on June 29 explaining the dismissal immediately. Further, I met with you and other parents who had questions or concerns. What I told this parent then is what I believe to be true today â?? there was inappropriate conduct, but nothing rising to the level of abuse. I believe as well as the other teacherâ??s present that day is that this is nothing more than an ex-employee who wanted to tarnish the reputation of a good school because why wait 8 months to tell a parent you were close with? Our teachers are professionals and would NEVER work for a company that â??told them not to tell parentsâ?ť about something as serious as this allegation. Doing so would put their careers and integrity in jeopardy. After an investigation was made we were also found not negligent of anything abusive. I believe that Holly Springs School for Early Education provided quality care for this child during the time that she was with us. No other parent believes this to be true as well. The conduct in question was an isolated, one-time incident. It is one thing regarding the ex-employee to be an unhappy employee who could not collect un-employment, itâ??s another to slander a great school. It is unfortunate that this caused a family that was very happy with us to lose faith. As far as choosing Holly Springs School for Early Education because it was â??cheaperâ?ť, I have been in Holly Springs for 11 years now and take our families financial needs into consideration. Since I am locally owned and not a franchise I can offer parents education thatâ??s reasonable. In conclusion, I understand people may continue to use this site to voice opinions whether truthful or not. It's unfortunate about everything. I stand by my reputation and being voted â??Best Preschool in Holly Springsâ?ť and will continue to offer families the best care and education I have been doing all along. I Kate Collins Newton

I just wanted to say..."Thank you so much for all that you do!" I love everything about your center and appreciate all the wonderful things that you all do each day for my child. We switched schools from a "brand named school" b/c we didnt' know any better. So much turn over. Through word of mouth we found you and are so happy we did. The extra activities that are offered to parents and the fact that the school is homey and not "chain like" is what sold our family. As my two children have aged up they each have had the same teacher which is so nice. I feel very welcomed there. I am happy that the owner (Kate) is on site each day and that the school was founded by an educator. Holly Springs is a growing town and your school fits right in with the community feel. Keep up the good work. everybody. We look forward to your next event! All the Humphries!!

Wonderful school! I am so impressed with everything this school has to offer us! Any parent looking for child care for your child(ren) or just moving here should look into Holly Springs School for Early Education. The family feeling and warmness is felt throughout the school. My children are in two different classes and I can't be happier with the teachers and all they are learning to do. My toddler is so busy each day with art, playing in the sensory table and I love, love the Family and Me days where I can come and join in the fun. I like the consistency of the program and the sign language. My older daughter is already reading pre-reader books and I love that she will be ready for kindergarten. I just wanted to say thanks for all you do!

As a parent in the school after seeing the two disturbing comments I feel obligated to let people searching for schools see both sides! I was a parent in the same class as the toddler mentioned during the same time and I experienced nothing short of wonderful. The teachers always gave great communication. My child learned sign language, went for buggy walks and the afternoon teachers were seen dancing and blowing bubbles in the room. I remember the new trash can w/ Elmo on the front and all the children were wanting to play with it but I never saw any child tall enough to reach inside and if ever the children were doing something they shouldn't I always saw (while watching through the window) a simple "no, no" and redirected to something else. I spend a lot of time in the school for mommy and me days and just hanging out in the afternoons. I'm sorry that parent had a bad experience but this center is awesome and anything that you need they do for you immediately. The owner and/or director are there everyday and I think this parent should have a personal nanny not daycare or group care. As far as "Jennifer" I believe she was a teacher whose children attended and was let go from her job. As any parent should do...Visit and tour the center many times and you'll get the feeling you want!

I am so impressed by what this little school has to offer. Besides the curriculum for my young son which includes sign language, family and me days at school and all the skills being worked on I have an older child who is already reading. As a teacher myself I pay close attention to curriculum when I looked at the schools in Holly Springs. they seemed all about the money. At HSS the owner is onsite and also a teacher which shows her love for what she does. All the family events, and close communication with me makes me feel a part of their family! Having my four year old come home showing me yoga poses, reading to me and talking about "random acts of kindness" proves I made a good choice in schools.

Wonderful school, wonderful teachers, wonderful staff. Everybody in HSSEE is passionate about children. Being an only child, my son was having difficulty with social skill and separation anxiety. He had been to two different schools which did not want him. HSSEE welcomed him with open arms and was willing to work with him. Now he is excited to go to school and loves all the people there.

My child just graduated from HSSEE. I have been told by his kindergartden teacher that he is far above his peers. they use the authentic curriculum that the public uses. I love the fact they change classes. They may not have all of the bells and whistle that other schools in the area have but they do have excellent teachers and my children loved being there. I didn't shop price i shopped program.

I have been very happy with the preschool curriculum at Holly Springs School for Early Education. I love that the preschoolers have a base classroom but then switch classrooms so that another teacher can teach them a couple of different subjects. The director and assistant director are very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. I drive quite a ways to take my child to this preschool, and it's been well worth the drive.
