JCCSF's dining project has been called a food court, but cafe is a much more accurate term. It in no way resembles the Panda Express and Sbarro-filled teenage obesity epicenters at your local mall; it's more like a miniature dining hall for a dorm full of foodies. The two adjoining rooms, with chairs spilling out into the community center's main lobby, feature six separate restaurant identities--Confections Bakery, LuLu Drinks, Pressed, Emma Peel's Pizza Pie, Jo-Jo-To-Go and Lucky Dawg--that run together into one bigger picture from former Meetinghouse chef Joanna Karlinsky and her partner, Victoria Smiser. On offer are a variety of grab-and-go bites ranging from grilled sandwiches to ice cream, whole pizzas to homemade soups, cupcakes to breakfast plates. Look also for coffee drinks courtesy of LuLu, who serve beans roasted by Freed, Teller & Freed.

The Inside Scoop

  1. Know Before You Go - A list of the dining hall's restaurants: Confections Bakery, LuLu Drinks, Pressed, Emma Peel's Pizza Pie, Jo-Jo-To-Go, Lucky Dawg.
  2. The Extras - True to the co-owner's history, Meetinghouse biscuits are available topped with gravy or Meyer lemon curd.
  3. Save Money - Make your sando at Pressed a meal by adding $1.50 for a side of fries or mixed green salad.

Such a Treat

by Cathy H. | top100 Top100 | Rank: 4

I went here while I was in the city and it was very enjoyable. The ice cream is a real treat because it's defiantly more fancy than regular container ice creams. The prices are a little bit more, similar to cold stone, but the quality is great.
