Brother Jimmy's doesn't disappoint

by Bridget123

Brother Jimmy's is THE spot for my friends and I, and their Lex location is perfect for an after-work run-in. My fav's: for an appetizer, I usually order hush puppies (the maple butter is to die for) and my favorite for dinner is the BBQ grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. Everything I've ever tried here has been great, though, and you really can't beat homecooked BBQ at such a decent price. Weekend evenings are also fun--join in on the exciting crowd and you may even make a new friend or two.

Pros: Good food, superior hospitality, cool crowd

Casual Dining at it's BEST

by foodfan13

This place is a guaranteed good time! You cannot beat the drink specials and just the smell of the food makes you want to get a table and split a few snacks with your friends. There's literally something for everyone, from fried apps, to healthy salads, ribs, pork and anything in between. We went to watch football and no matter the crowd, you can see the TV's from every angle. A perfect weekend hang out. I will definitely make this a regular place to come in and eat.

Pros: fun/energetic vibe, delicious comfort foods

Cons: can get busy

Amazing place for group outings

by mda2009

I recently went to Brother Jimmy's with my friends from college before hitting up the bars in the East Village. Although it seemed a bit crowded for my liking at first, the bartenders served us immediately and we had no problems getting our drinks. After 5 minutes, we were already running into people we knew and of course, stayed at Brother Jimmy's all night. Brother Jimmy's offers a great place to socialize with fun young people in the city, dance to good music or just relax and have a platter of their awesome wings. Oh yes, must try the fishbowl.

Pros: lively but comfortable atmosphere, casual, fun, great food!

Overall a great time!

by SLC17

I've been here quite a few times and absolutely love the place. It's fun with an extremely energetic atmosphere...not to mention that the food is great too! I love to go to there on Wednesdays when it's Southern Appreciation Night. BJ's will give you a discount with a southern license and will play the occasional country song for all of the country music lovers out there. I've been there other days of the week as well and have had the same great experience.

Pros: Great food, fun atmosphere, inexpensive food & drink

Cons: Can be crowded

SO Happy to have BJ's downtown

by wist43

I have been going to Brother Jimmy's on the UES for years, since it is my favorite place for pulled pork and frickles (so hard to find in NYC) and more importantly, our favorite place to watch football. Since we moved downtown, we hadn't been able to find somewhere else as good to watch games and more importantly, get good BBQ. Sure enough, we found out that this location opened in Murray Hill, a short walk from our apartment in Gramercy, and I was shocked at how amazing the experience was at this restaurant. They not only have outdoor seating, but an entire space downstairs with and extra bar in case the regular bar is too crowded.

The servers had the same charm as the rest of the Brother Jimmy's (I get nervous when my husband goes there alone) but most importantly, it seems as though the food was completely revamped and grew up with the restaurant's look. I still love my pulled pork, but the newer items I noticed (blackened chicken, bbq chicken sliders, turkey burger sliders) were really great as well.
I would recommend Brother Jimmy's to anyone, just be careful on busy football days because there's sometimes a line to get in - but I guess that's not really so bad if everyone is lookin to go there.

Pros: Best BBQ in town, TV visability

Cons: Lines on weekends

Great place for sports/after work

by mwill25

I've been to this location several times and love it! They have great food and it's not too expensive. It's pretty crowded on the weekends now with football fans, but I went during the week and got a seat at the bar no problem...I love the bartenders here and haven't had any problems with service that others mentioned.

Pros: Good Food, not $$$

Cons: crowded on weekends

No Southern Hospitality here

by BBQluvr

The food is mediocre and the service is horrendous. Came one night and had the bouncer curse at my friend without any justification. When I confronted him for his language he graced me with more of the same.

For a place that pretends to have a southern-theme, they oughta learn some manners and little southern hospitality.

I won't becoming back now, y'all hear?

Pros: Lame bouncers are good for a laugh

Cons: Employees swear at customer's

horrible service/ extremely dirty

by binkster01

we made reservations... they made us wait for an hour... not only they kept telling us we were the next ones to be seated, they kept on seating other people in front of us... then while we were waiting, we kept getting pushed by the bouncer from one end to the other, because there was no space to wait. after an hour, they told us they were never going to be able to seat us!!!! but i was glad... because when we were about to leave... i spotted a creepy crawler crawling on the wall... so i guess everything does happen for a reason!

Pros: none

Cons: creepy crawlers/couldn't get seated

"BBQ" and "bouncer" do not belong in the same sentence

by Excalibur212

My roommate was there with a friend for St. Patty's. Being over 23, I'm not accustomed to all the rituals of contemporary Murray Hill life and sauntered up to the door and showed my ID. A wobbly, jerky moving fellow said, "Who are YOU?" to which I naturally responded, "Why, who are YOU?" Apparently there was a LINE. A line! To get into a BBQ joint!! *LOFL*--which is exactly what i did, instinctively, without malicious intent, laughed out loud in his face! I proceeded to enter the "5 person queue"...7 minutes later when I got to the door, I was denied entry by the same pr1ck. Give me a break. This is Brother Jimmy's, not a meatpacking district club. What a joke!!! Perhaps i have matured out of this pretenious neighborhood, but i hate to have offended his delicate ego. I guess they have to give him something to do to feel important. It must be tough living in Brooklyn in a 5th floor walkup and denying people entrance to a BBQ place on Tuesday night filled with yuppies. ROTFLMAO!!! So many better things to do with my time......I spent my money at a nice Irish Bar instead, which is what i should have done in the first place. And had a much better time.

Pros: it looks nicer than the vacant lot that used to be there?

Cons: it exists
