There are plenty of wine bars in the city, but never before have oenophiles been able to experience Napa-style wine tastings one short, tie-loosening walk away from work. Eight California wineries--from one of the oldest (Chateau Montelena, subject of the film Bottle Shock) to some of today's most popular (Saintsbury, whose tasting counter seems to always bustle with sport coats and dresses)--each host their own bar within this high-gloss, soft light and dark wood underground wine shrine on the posh Yerba Buena Lane promenade. While each winery has a five-year lease on space at Press Club, their lists of featured bottles changes often, and with a monthly rotating menu of cheese, fruit, and seafood bites along with a comfortable lounge, communal bar, and private dining room, this swanky spot allows you to get wined and unwind like a Wine Country retreat in the beating heart of the city.

Key Points

  • Wine tasting from 8 vineyards
  • Buy and ship Napa Valley wines
  • Unique private events setting

The Inside Scoop

  1. When to Go - Press Club opens at 11am everyday---though don't expect to catch a buzz until 2pm Sunday through Thursday. The first three hours (Fridays and Saturdays excepted) are for retail customers only.
  2. Fun Fact - The large photographic prints on the walls are all close-ups of the featured wineries' vineyards.
  3. Save Money - If you belong to clubs for any of the participating wineries, your discount privileges will also be valid for any of their wines that you buy here.
  4. The Extras - A large private dining room seats up to 20 guests and can be booked for private functions with a full catering option if required.
  5. Parking - Head a block south to 5th and Mission Streets to a city-owned parking garage that runs about $3 per hour.

Perfect date spot

by CSMobileUser

Once you step in and see the decor, you know you're in for a treat. The service is great and the prices are reasonable. But the ambiance of this place is second to none. This is the most Unique winebar I've ever been to. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's the most visually stunning and best reviewed wine bar in America.

Only for wine tasting -- not a place to enjoy a drink

by 23go

This is great place if you want to spend $10 to "taste" 1 wine -- that's 3 small sips of wine. At least when you go to Napa you get more value. Would have loved to have been able to order a glass of wine but that isn't an option.
