Called to have a water heater replaced in revere, ma wanted to get a estimate, but was told there was a dispatch fee, and they had to look at job, no problem.

Beforehand i went to home depot, and got a rough price of what the heater will cost, and materials, about $475 tops for both, also went to fergason's a plumbing supply house, and priced a professional quality heater and materials, to cost about $50 more.

How is it then, a basic water heater install, cost $1500-1600?, i know it takes less than 2 hours to install it, so that's $500 a hour?, my lawyer in downtown boston doesnt even charge that!, i found a another licensed plumber, who charged me $825.00 which includes a free dispatch, estimate, and permit fee for installation, get a quote over the phone, or dont pay a dispatch fee, it's a sales tactic, to get in your house and sell you something.

These people answer the phone saying how they can provide you excellent customer service and that is absolutely false! I called with a charge discrepancy and asked that the woman not be snappy and she said I was and then hung up on me! How is that excellent service? As well as the reason for calling was that they charged an elderly friend $100 for a service call and a $350 restocking fee for nothing being done! I have been in this business for 10 years and have never charged a customer a service call for not doing any work unless it was out of my service area AND they were informed prior to my coming out to their home. Worst part is that it was just a minor leak and the part was not needed. Which they would have known if they came and looked at the job prior to ordering parts especially if it was a special order part instead of relying on an elderly gentleman whom is not even a plumber!

I recently left Addario's plumbing after 2 plus years and I find these comments laughable, especially the review by the "ex employee who got screwed out of his licence hours". Keep in mind that since the first review posted on this site in September of 2005, Addario's has installed over 12,000 water heaters. Here is the deal...and if you understand this you will be better off while purchasing a water heater through a box chain store. Because it is the law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, it is assumed that the last water heater you, or the previous owner, had installed had a permit pulled with the city or town you live in and it was inspected and passed. It is also assumed that it is either located in a basement or ground level with outside access. The $289 basic installation that HD charges does not all go to Addario's and if there are any code upgrades they will be priced accordingly and consistently, meaning that the prices are set, the techs aren't randomly pulling figures out of the air. With a gas w/h you are dealing with carbon monoxide, and with electric w/h you are dealing with 240 V, both of which will kill you if not handled properly. One thing is for sure, when Addario's is done, it's up to code and will get inspected. Your local plumber wanted to charge you between 1000 ans 1600 to put the same unit in that H/D will charge 799 for and probably will not pull a permit. If you want the safest installation for you and your family, no one does it better. faster or more efficiently than Addario's. These guys put w/h's in 6 days a week and do 3-7 a day per truck. They have to deal with employees like Jiffy L who like to show up 10 to 45 minutes late...or sometimes, don't show up at all, like he did the day he got axed. As far as his hours for his licence...lol....when you change your name 4 times in 6 years, the board of examiners, along with a few other state agencies, tend to frown upon granting licenses.
When you buy your water heater "1st thing in the morning", you can be sure that by the time it gets over to Addario's that they have already scheduled runs for every truck they have, and this could be as many as 15-30 heaters that came in after 2 pm or were scheduled from jobs that cam in over the past week. These runs are put together between 6 & 7 am, so even if you are in the store at 6 am, chances are you will have to wait until the after noon to get your heater installed. Nobody has hot water, everybody has a job to get to and things that need to get done, including the 20 or so customers that ordered theirs before you. I can't bring my shirts to the cleaners after 10 am, but somehow Addario's can get an order by 2 pm and more often than not, go to you, and get it installed that day. There are only so many technicians and a lot of jobs. Customers might also want to consider making sure the area around the water heater as well as the access to and from the outside is clear.
The person running Addario's might not be a plumber, but she knows what she is doing and she is surrounded by many people that know the plumbing business. It's nice that a guy can go on one of these sites and run his mouth (his specialty). This guy was asked what he looked for in his auto mechanic and he replied "...cheap and dirty..." Good, quality service is neither.

I am one of the longest employees of Addarios and know all who have worked here. Tiffy Attendance was terrible, has come back to work for the company 3 times and the owners took him back. He should have his license by now, and all his tools but spends his money on foolish things. Our prices are reasonable and our job is to make sure all customers we service have their jobs done correctly and up to code, its easy to just do work, its harder and more expensive to it up to code and taking the customer family and their safety and making that your top priority.

I worked for them and the Licensed plumbers they have were more concerned with trying to get their daily jobs cancelled than doing the actual installs. They want you to upsell, which is understandable but, their prices are way too high and unreasonable. They screwed me on my hours needed to get my license and I now have to do my schooling over. They have someone running the business that has no plumbing experience at all. At one time was a very good company but they now seem to be going under

We too bought a hot water heater from Home Depot and paid the installation upfront and was told that the installers would be there tomorrow morning to install. We were told to anticipate some extra costs like $30 for a permit, etc. OK, that's fine. In the morning I get a call from Addario's to tell me the time frame they'd arrive. The woman also asked where my circuit breaker was located - was it on the same floor? No, I told her, and she said nothing else about it. Two guys showed up on time and I'm thinking things are going good until they look at my tank and tell me that by law, because my circuit breaker was on a different floor and not "visible from the water heater" that I had to pay $300 extra bucks for THEIR electrician to come tomorrow to make sure that the tank was installed properly. Huh? Hmm...that's why that woman asked me that weird question. Why didn't she tell me about this fee? hmmm. Next, they tell me that it would cost me another $95 to get a permit for the tank. All of this payable upfront in cash or credit card, or they leave with the water tank that I already friggin paid for. What? Wait a minute? I ask if I can see a copy of the statute. Nope, no statute on hand. Figures. And $95 bucks for a permit? Wow - where are we, Gotham City? No thanks. I tell them to leave the tank - and they friggin tell me that it doesn't work that way - I say maybe for you, but I paid for the tank - it's mine. They say, we bought it from Home Depot, it's ours - I say get your money back from them then, because I certainly paid them for it, see, I have the receipt in my hand. wave wave wave. They tell me there is a $75 fee for cancellations and something else, which totalled $123 in fees to cancel the friggin install. I didn't let them leave - no way - I called Home Depot, negotiated with them and told them this was not our bargain, etc., and installing the $320 tank would cost me over $700 bucks just to stick the thing in my house at the end of the day. Unacceptable. Finally Home Depot agreed to take care of these cancellation fees (called P.O. fees) and the guys left the tank. The guys were really nice and I felt bad that I couldn't do business with them so that we'd all be happy and I especially, would be happy and clean. Oh well. Lesson Learned: don't get installation from Home Depot, EVER, and don't do business with Addario's. Too bad - the two nice guys should go and work for someone else. I fear for weaker people who can't stand up to people, don't question things, just eat crap that's dished to them, and succumb to this type of high pressure sales technique that takes advantage of people at a vulrenable time. I felt like I was being kind of extorted today and it scared me to think of this happening to my parents or friends, the elderly and young people staritng out who don't know crap. Scary!!!

** Also, their game: these 2 nice guys show up and say "oh, they said this was a gas tank, we have to check the truck to see if we have the right tank". I looked at my receipt and it clearly said electric tank. Still, when the other guy came back to say, yes we have a an electric tank, he still did not bring it in the house. Now that I think of it, this was deliberate, a motion, an act, part of the game: they probably anticipate that people will get pissed off because of the unexpected no choice charges and it would be harder to take the tank with them if and when the homeowner refuses installation and demands that they leave the tank. In my case, these guys left and came back to drop off the tank because Home Depot called them. In other cases, I can imagine that they just take off with the homeowner's tank! WOW. I wonder how much $ Home Depot is losing because of this company.

Another Home Depot blunder. Why do they keep these guys? They are the only contracted plumber in my area. I set up a new water heater install for same-day service the moment Home Depot customer service opened, and was told the plumbers would arrive between 10am-2pm. At 12:15pm, the plumber called me and asked if they could come the next day. Due to a faulty valve, I had to shut off all the water in my house - not just to the hot water heater - so I said no, I really needed someone to come. I was told it would probably be 4pm or later, but that they'd even work late at night. OK. At 3:45pm, they called to tell me they weren't coming at all. I lost an entire day's wages, plus had to cancel a doctor's appointment which I was charged for b/c it was less than 24 hours' notice. I was promised I was the "first customer for" the next day, and they'd come between 9-11am. 11am rolls around and still no plumbers. They arrived at 11:20 and now I find out I need new this and that, for another $150 of charges - they already KNEW I had a faulty valve but no one bothered to mention to me what that would cost to replace until they actually showed up. And the plumbers showed up with iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts - freshly full of ice - so glad they had time to stop for that while I lost more wages. In the end, a $900 job ended up costing me well over $1200 with all things factored in, and I was not offered one single discount for the delayed service and my inconvenience (see addition: they tried to charge me more, plus tried to sell me more services!) I will say that the install did go smoothly and quickly (as far as I can tell) but now there is wet rust on the floor in my basement - they didn't clean up after themselves (it's not terrible, but enough that someone certainly needs to clean up.) The side of their truck says "24 Hour Service." I wish they'd lived up to that for my job.

Addition: after they left, I discovered that my upstairs toilet had broken - no water going to the tank. It worked FINE until Addarios had come. They refused to come back without my paying a fee, - said it could not possibly have anything to do with the install - and would not counsel me over the phone. I called someone else who helped troubleshoot for free and it took 10 min. to get it working again (silt/rust in line after H2O heater install - yet Addarios' licensed plumbers apparently never thought of that, and of course never checked anything after they'd left) Addarios: AWFUL customer service, plain and simple. Stay away from them!!!

I too orderer a hot water heater from Home Depot. It went suddenly and I needed new one with any hassles. I talked to a representative of Home Depot on one of their in store phones and made the arrangements for the install. They said the plumber would call for the time etc. The next morning Addario Plumbing called and said they would be there within a four hour window. Now that I new the name of the plumber I decided to google them for piece of mind so to speak. When I read the posted reviews I said Oh My God. They were all terrible. I read them and sure enough as soon as they came in the house it was extra for this and 85.00 for extending a pipe two inches. I said thanks but take your tank and get out of here. I called Home Depot and cancelled my Credit Card payment. I also called the Credit Card Co. to ensure no charges were made regarding this. Thank you for taking the time to write your reviews. They saved my day. Nothing like being prepared for the worst and sure enough they delivered as advertised.

we had a hot water heater installed through Home Depot. Had a problem with installation appointment (this was Home Depot's fault) but once that was settled they came out and did the job. The heater is still working - two weeks later- so I guess they did okay work. Husband thinks they did a good job. He was down there with them and watched what they did.

Home Depot locally was OK but trying to use the national number to order up an installation was hopeless. (local store was out of stock) Installer was a nice kid and professional, tried to sell me some unneeded parts which I take to be part of his instructions from his boss. Additionally they installed a $160.00 expansion tank which is now code for my town. I suspect this was a little strong price wise. After all was said and done the completed job was still done cheaper than local plumbers wanted for the job.(even adding in the $160.)

Not only did the company fail to keep appointments, but they failed to fix the problem they overcharged us to repair. I have now had to call them out for a third visit to repair the initial problem. Once this is sorted out, I will never use them again.

The two previous reviews sound very familiar. I have placed an order for a water heater installation at 11 am and I was told that it will be installed that same day and somebody will be calling me to schedule a time. By 3 pm, I still did not have been contacted. Call back Home Depot every hour, they tried to call Addario sometimes nobody will pick up the phone, or he is away from his desk, or they were closed and they had to leave a message with Answering Service. I asked for the company name and phone. On the second day I called Home Depot again, the same scenario as the previous day. I waited an hour, nobody calls. I called Addario myself and they transferred me to somebody that says "Oh, I was just trying to call you? (I have call waiting; I know when I get a second call). Well, he told me that they will be here between 2 and 6 pm. They did not show up, called to cancel or reschedule. I CALLED HOME DEPOT TO CANCEL THE ORDER.

George B's story sounds familiar. I too waited 1/2 a day, called and learned that they *were coming* that day to install a water heater. Then they called back an hour later to reschedule. They didn't show up at the 2nd appointment either. They called later to reschedule. I cancelled the water heater installation through Home Depot. How many days off from work am I to take so that a water heater I paid for over a week ago gets installed? No more.

I arranged for a water heater to be installed in a second home. I told them in advance that I had to take a day off from work and was traveling from out of town to do this. Subequent to this, they made a mistake on the installation day and called trying to make arrangements for this incorrect date. This was corrected. When called the day before the correct scheduled appt day, they were unable to provide me with an aproximate installation time. They do not do this until the day of the appt.and this was inconvenient for someone like myself (who had to travel to the installation site). They called early the next AM and gave me a late AM or early PM time window. I waited for half a day at my second home and they did not arrive. In the afternoon my wife called me on my cellphone because they had left a message on our primary residence answering machine cancelling my appt. She had called them back and asked that they contact me on the cellphone number (they had used earlier that day) but they had never called me. I called them to find out what had happened. They could only say that there was an "emergency". They did not apologize or suggest any possible remedies or acknowlege the incovenience they had caused me.
I expressed my frustration and dissatisfaction. I then cancelled the installation with them. Since I had arranged this through Home Depot, I also called Home Depot and cancelled. After what had happenned, this morning they called me again to make arrangments to install the water heater. I cannot recommend them because they appear to be poorly organized and unreliable. I might feel differently if they had apologized or expressed some appreciation of the inconvenience they caused me.

PROS: None
CONS: Unreliable, poorly organized, unapologetic for a mistake

Sometimes accidents happen at night so it is great to find a 24 hr, same day emergency service! They have some of the best prices around and they also do kitchen and bath remodeling.

We had a problem with the kitchen sink. My wife called them. They came and wanted to charge me 640$ for the job. The same machine that they wanted to use is available to rent for 25$ at Home Depot and took me 5 min to get the job done.

I have no idea what these people are talking about. We just had a heating system installed through Addario's and we couldn't have asked for a better company. Not only did they have one of the best price quotes, but they were extremely friendly and accommodating, We had to cancel the original appointment the day before because our basement flooded and they completely understood and we rescheduled.
They showed up on time and everything was installed with no problem at all. They also checked out a leaky pipe that we have and we will be calling them to take care of that as well. I would recommend them to anybody. The Manager Nichole was awesome, I had to talk to her a few times due to the flooding and she was always friendly nice and funny. Steve the owner came by and was awesome too. All in all I give them an A+.
