Animal Dental center has a branch in Annapolis where both my Yorkies have been treated. My 2 pound Yorkie had a dental abcess with jaw fractures and we would have soon lost her. She is running around again with her quack quack again and very healthy. My other 3 pound Yorkie Mia was also treated there by Dr. Luskin and needed her teeth cleaned and her lower canines reinforced. She is doing wonderful as well and as he recommended I brush her teeth daily and use apply oravet to her gum line weekly. I know they are pricey but you cannot put a price on the professionalism and experience they exemplify where your furbabies lives are concerned. Dental issues can kill your pet so the money is well spent.

We have 2 very old Boston Terriers. One is 16 and the other 14 years old. We were very worried about having them put under anesthesia. In addition, Pugsley has back issues that could have been worsened by any surgery if not handled appropriately. Dr Luskin and his staff did an amazing job. They were very upfront about the risks involved and were very specific about the precautions they would take during the surgery to minimize any disturbances to Pugsley's back. They did a fantastic job and I'm so glad we decided to have the dental work done. Both Rutherford and Pugsley showed improvements after healing from surgery like being more excited about eating, increased appetite and more dog smiles. They just seem altogether more happy. Another benefit to consider is although it may cost more at Animal Dental Center, the job is done right the first time. With another vet, Rutherford had gone in 4 times for bad breath. It kept coming back within months. Dr Luskin properly treated him and it's been over 1 yr with a clean mouth. We are so happy and the dogs are healthy and happy Thank you Dr. Luskin.

I cannot speak highly enough about this facility. After going through a traumatic experience with another vet, the Dental Center took a look at my cat with a jaw injury. Dr. Stein and the other technicians and vets took as much time as was necessary to explain to me everythig associated with the proceedires, recovery and cost. I was impressed that each time I called I was not put on hd and was promptly transferred to either Dr. Stein or someone else who had dealt directly with my cat. The facility is clean and they do everything in their power to ease you through a not so fun time! If you are having any issues or doubts about your animals mouth, don't mess around, just bring them here!

I had to visit the Animal Dental Center recently when my beagle, Gwinnie, had a growth on her gum. Her veterinarian had removed it previously, and it quickly grew back. Not knowing how exactly to treat this possibly cancerous growth, they referred me to the Animal Dental Center.
When Gwinnie and I arrived at the Animal Dental Center, we were very impressed with the staff. Gwinnie was quite nervous, as any beagle would be, but Miss Kendal the veterinary tech was patient with her.
Dr.Luskin then examined her mouth. He was very gentle with her the whole time. He explained the previous biopsy results and what he recommended. He was very knowledgeable about this type of tumor. He recommended surgery. When I told him I wanted to wait to schedule the surgery, he did not pressure me to have the surgery that day. He told me the risks of waiting too long. I decided to schedule the surgery two weeks later.
Gwinnie??s surgery went very well. I was able to call in the early afternoon to check on her. Her pain was well controlled, and this was evidenced by her wagging tail as soon as she came out of the recovery room. Dr.Luskin made sure I understood the recovery plan and Miss Kendal gave me tips on how to get her to take her pills after having mouth surgery. Thankfully, the margins cleared on the tumor and Gwinnie did not need additional surgery.
I was extrememly impressed with the Animal Dental Center. They cared for Gwinnie as they would their own pet. I have the utmost confidence in their judgement and I would recommend them for all of your pet??s dental needs.

My Chihuahua, Lil Dude was born with a Cleft Palate. Dr. Luskin explain everything and even showed pictures of surgeries and explained all the risk also. On August 13, 2010 (Lil Dude weighed 1.9 pounds) he had his surgery. He developed some problems because he didn't want to eat and his sugar level kept dropping. He ended up in the emergency room in Bel Air for 5 days. I contacted Dr. Luskin who in turn contacted the hospital every day and kept in touch with me every day. Dr. Luskin is a vet who is very compassionate and caring and takes is truely interested in the well being of your pet. Lil Dude is now 2.3 pounds but thanks to the wonderful care provided by Dr. Luskin he is doing well. Would highly recommend Dr. Luskin.

Sixteen years ago, I took my 2yr old cat Piglet to see Dr. Luskin. When I got her as a kitten, she had a large cleft palate in her mouth. She had already had 5 unsuccessful surgeries to correct it. (Three surgeries by her regular vet, and two surgeries by a veterinary orthopedic surgeon.) It was recommended to me by the orthopedic surgeon to take her to see the veterinary dental specialist, Dr. Ira Luskin.
I did not want to give up on Piglet. She had already had a rough start, she was "dumped" at 8 weeks old, on a co-workers doorstep...for obvious reasons. I knew she couldn't live on a rotation of antibiotics for the rest of her life, so I made the appointment with Dr. Luskin, knowing it was the "last" resort. Dr. Luskin said he had never seen a cleft palate that large in a cat before. He asked if I would be okay with him taking molds of her mouth so he could take them to a dental seminar and see what his other colleagues thought. He came back with some "ideas" on how to repair her palate.
Piglet was sedated a few times to have teeth pulled. Once her mouth healed from the extractions, Dr. Luskin performed her cleft palate repair. And it was successful miracle! Piglet and I were so very grateful and happy that she got to finally live like a "normal" cat.
With great sadness, I had to have Piglet put to sleep on February 13, 2010. I know in my heart of hearts that she would never have lived her long, full life of 18yrs,(she was just 3 months shy of her 19th birthday) if her mouth had not been repaired.
I will never forget the dedication, research and compassion Dr. Luskin gave not only to me, but to Piglet as well. He will be forever in my heart for putting up with my ongoing persistence and questions and most of all for never giving up on Piglet.

My husband and I recently visited the Animal Dental Center at their Towson location for our 1-year old Boston Terrier Cricket. We were referred there by our general vet after she took a look in our little girl 's mouth and suggested we had a specialist do an evaluation. As we later learned, Boston Terriers, as a breed, are highly prone to impacted teeth, and in our case Dr. Luskin needed to surgical extract 2 teeth in the lower jaw that had formed cysts in the jaw. Would those have stayed in they would have resulted in a broken jaw and more pain and suffering for our puppy... not to mention a lot more expense! The facility was easy to find, clean, and everything was very professionally handled. Dr. Luskin even offered to let us keep the extracted teeth after the procedure!

I appreciated the thoroughness of the exam and felt comfortable with what the procedure would entail. I will say that while the cost of any specialist is a bit more than my regular vet would have charged for the same thing, I know it was done right the first time. Would you let your regular dentist perform oral surgery on your mouth? Of course not unless you knew they were experts in that particular field.

More about Animal Dental Center

The Animal Dental Center was established in 1990 as one of the first specialty-only practices for Veterinary Dentistry & Oral Surgery in the United States. As a specialty referral practice, we utilize the latest techniques in Veterinary Dentistry & Oral Surgery along with state-of-the-art technology to provide your regular veterinary team the advanced support necessary to successfully manage dental and maxillofacial disease.

Because of our focus exclusively on Oral Surgery and Dentistry, the Animal Dental Center does not provide routine veterinary care. Any preoperative tests to determine your pet's anesthetic health risks should be done ahead of time by your regular veterinarian. Any diagnostic testing related to the oral problem will be completed by our specialty team.

Dentistry & Oral Surgery is one of approximately twenty specialties currently recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) to provide pets with an advanced level of care (just as specialists in human medicine do). Specialty certification requires completion of at least 3-5 additional years of training in the area of specialization beyond the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. All candidates must pass advanced credential evaluation set up by an AVMA review board, and then successfully complete an extensive written and practical examination before being acknowledged as a board certified Veterinary Dentist / Oral Surgeon or a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College. Seeing a specialist ensures your four-legged loved ones receive the correct diagnosis and expert medical care the first time around.
