Recently opened in Belltown, Gambas French & Japanese Restaurant was the brainchild of a longtime Seattle chef who cut his teeth working in a French Restaurant. Throughout over 30 years of restaurant experience working both in a Japanese Izakaya and Sushi as well as his start in French Dining, Gambas is the perfect combination of local Seafood. Both cuisines thrive with fresh fish, and Gambas has choosen it's menu to pair both influences. You can stop by for an amazing Sushi meal early, or have a French delicacy prepared for you at dinner. Gambas is also available for catering to Belltown, Downtown, and as far as Ballard. Delivery and Takeout too. Happy Hour is daily from 5pm - 7pm and features $1 sushi (select single pieces).

This sushi place is surprisingly great. The location is convenient, but not exactly on the best block. It's right on the edge of the free ride zone, and the bus stop across the street is always crowded and draws some interesting crowds. However, the sushi is incredible, and available for incredible prices, especially at happy hour and on saturdays.

Newly discovered hidden gem ...

I found Gambas on the web and called them to see if they could cater my dad's birthday party. Not many sushi places offer affordable catering if at all. They came onsite and prepared such a drop dead gorgeous spread, everyone at the party asked who the caterers were and immediately went searching for the full menu on their iphones. The presentation was unimaginably beautiful, and even that may be a slight understatement. Gamba was uber professional - of course - he hails from a managerial position in the kitchen of a 5 star hotel in Colorado. His staff was courteous and even helped out with serving when the hired servers were bogged down cleaning up someone's spill. Their Belltown restaurant is easy to find and I've never had a problem finding on street parking - nor has my husband who frequents them for lunch during the week. I am always happy to support a family run business especially when they are dedicated to sourcing local first quality product and pave their own way with delicious,creative and uncomplicated food in a neighborhood that is somewhat innundated with pretentious establishments with too-precious sounding food.
Pros: menu variety, super friendly owner/chef, fabulous catering
