The Laughing Skull Lounge is Atlanta's only full-time progressive stand-up comedy club. We are located in the heart of Atlanta's Midtown Mile, hidden in the back of The Vortex Bar & Grill on Peachtree Street. This intimate setting of only 74 seats, along with today's "hippest" comedians, gives you a comedy experience that you can not find anywhere else... period! Some examples of comedians rolling through the skull: Doug Benson, Maria Bamford, Greg Proops, Paul F Thompkins, Aisha Tyler, Jake Johannsen, Emo Phillips, Donnell Rawlings, & many more! And you can come early or stay late to eat at one of Atlanta's best restaurants... The Vortex has won best burger in Atlanta since 1992 & was recently on The Travel Channel's "Man vs Food" for their double by-pass burger. "Great Comedy, Great Food, Great Space...this is the best club to see comedy in the Atlanta!"-Numerous ATL Comedy Fans

Mixed feelings

by Blair G. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,031

We recently saw comedian Paul F. Tompkins at the Laughing Skull. He was hilarious and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The space and set-up are great, extremely intimate. The club attracts comedians of impressive caliber. The prices are affordable - we received a 2-for-1 deal that we saw advertised on Twitter. I had one problem with the club and that was the opening act by owner Marshall Chiles. To say that his style of comedy is not what I enjoy is an understatement. I found his brand of humor to be immature and felt like his act depended a lot on being as offensive as possible. I understand the artistic value of shocking and offending an audience, but I felt like his "comedy" wasn't even funny. I didn't laugh, I cringed. At the very least I will arrive late in the future to avoid having to sit through his act again. I am actually unsure whether or not I will go back again at all, because he is club owner and I feel wary about supporting him financially.

Finally A Comedy Lounge For Us Intowners!

by jaymaygm

Laughing Skull Comedy Lounge is long overdue. And it's part/adjacent to one of our fave Burger Joint's, The Vortex. No traveling to OTP/Sandy Springs. The progressive guests are great. When Hollis Gillespie takes the stage. I'm rolling in the aisles. Maybe we might even catch a glance of Suzanne, and one of her many bikes. The spirit of Lenny Bruce lives!

Pros: Next To Vortex

Cons: Parking, We Just Take Marta!

Best Comedy Club in Atlanta!!!

by Jimmy Bailey

I went this past weekend to see comedian Hal Sparks and we LOVED our experience. That was one of the best comedy shows I have ever been to and I think a great deal of it had to do with the club. Dont get me wrong, Hal Sparks is VERY funny, but maybe the room helped him be funnier. We plan to come back as much as possible!

Pros: comedians, seating, location

Cons: parking, kinda hard to find

Love Love Laughing Skull!

by Becca Nichols

The owner is hilarious, and we've yet to see a bad comedian!

The venue is a great setting for a group of friends or just a couple. Its definitely worth checking out! I'm sure you'll go back.

Marshall has also generously hosted fundraising shows and donated a portion of the shows proceeds to local charities.

Pros: Great Venue! - Really Cool atmosphere for comedy

Cons: parking is no good...

Best croissants in town! Well, not exactly...

by Brian Clifford

As huge stand up fans, we loooove the Laughing Skull! You get a chance to really connect with the comedians. There's not a bad seat in the house.

Pros: Intimate space; worldclass acts; The Vortex!

Cons: Narrow entrance hall, maybe? That's about it.

Super Cool and Very Funny!

by MillerTime

I finally went to this comedy club the other week and had a blast. This is not like any other comedy club I have ever been to... and in the heart of midtown Atlanta!!!

I am very happy that Atlanta has such a cool comedy club. The comedians I saw were all very funny with unique jokes.

I will be making this place one of my regular spots.

Favorite spot in the city

by crisgray

As a comic, this is my favorite place to perform. The venue is perfect to interact with the crowd. The size and acoustics make every seat a great seat. The audience is smart and fun and you don't have to "dumb it down" for them. Best comedy club in the city. It's inside the Vortex so you get great food and drinks before and after the show.

Pros: Great seats, atmosphere and performances

Cons: None

Great comedy club

by pairademshoes

It's tiny and you're close to the comics, even if you're sitting in the general admission seats. This creates a better experience overall. They even have a wait staff even though the bar is a 5 second walk from your seat. Go to the Laughing Skull. Now.

Pros: Intimate setting, cheap beer

Cons: Paying for parking (not a big deal, though)

Best comedy club in Atlanta

by ozrockett

This is the best comedy club in the city. It's inside the Vortex so you get some great food before and after the show. The bar is also the gathering place of many local performers. Guy sitting next to you could be the next great thing you see on TV.

Pros: Every seat is a great seat

Cons: None

love this place

by LIsaTuga

I love this comedy club, but dont understand how they can bring in big comedians with only ~80 seats... but if they make it, awesome! I have seen three shows here and every time it is a fun time.

Pros: very very cool

Cons: too small

great time

by LanaM

after hearing about this place for a while, I went with some friends and we all loved it. The comedians were very good, without being hacky and generic. The room itself is sooo small, I think it only holds 80 people or so. And it is in the back of the vortex which felt odd, but still kinda cool...

We will definitely go back!!!

Pros: very cool everything

Cons: kinda hidden

great comedy club

by iamstew

This is my favorite comedy club in Atlanta. I went for the first time about 2 months ago just after it opened and have been back about 4 times. Everyone I take enjoys the comedy club and likes the fact that it is so small. I cant wait to see Jake Johannsen in a few weeks....

and I like that I am the first one to review Atlanta's rock star comedy club

Pros: room, comedians, atmosphere
