There aren't enough words to provide adequate praise for Jessica's work. I have worked with a number of acupuncturists over the course of the past two decades to help with pain and radiculopathy from degenerative disc disease (I had an L4-5 discectomy several years ago that didn't stand the test of time); Jessica is, by far, the most gifted practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine in NYC. When I first went to see Jessica, I was in the midst of an acute episode of debilitating lower back pain. I couldn't stand up or walk, even a few feet, without wanting to cry. Within the first few visits, Jessica helped me get back on my feet and her needle work paired with cupping and moxibustion provided substantial and lasting pain relief. I continue to see Jessica on a weekly basis (my gift to myself) and she is always able to provide me with relief for anything that ails me. She is very accessible, has a wonderful bedside manner, is extremely compassionate, warm and funny and is an excellent listener/communicator. Jessica really wants the treatments to be about the patient and meeting his/her needs.

I was not able to walk without pain. I found Jessica, and after a couple of treatments, I was moving around without pain. My husband was so happy, he said, " Alma you are walking". Jessica is great at what she loves so much doing, helping peaple to get healthy. Oh, and she is friendly too. I will always be greatful.

I have just finished my daily, two mile run, made possible only after the meticulous and patient work of Jessica over the past several months.

I met her for the first time in September 2009, after a severe injury in my sciatic nerve. It was my first time with acupuncture, following days of serious back pain and excruciating cramps in my right leg that had altered my normal running schedule of 50 miles a week to a rather sedentary and sore routine.

Jessica's acupuncture worked simultaneously in many dimensions: trying to alleviate the pain, restoring the muscle' health so energy could circulate more fluidly, improving my posture in order to heal the injury, listening carefully to the signals that my body produced. There was never a perfunctory decision from her--the treatment evolved every week (how much time, how many needles, the place of them, the circulation affected), adjusting it to the changes in my body, so that the acupuncture gained in efficacy.

As the immediate pain receded, acupuncture worked in the long term restoration of my health. Jessica was very patient in following a slow return to my routine, discussing in great detail the benefits and risks of the progressive incorporation of different exercises. She was never narrow in advising a dogmatic "don't run,"--rather, she saw regaining vitality as a central part of the healing process, and the ultimate goal of her work.

Jessica's thoroughness, insight and acumen in Chinese Medicine has definitely helped me through a rough patch with some female problems. I am no recent convert to acupuncture; in fact, I had been seeing a different practitioner for more than seven years. This practitioner was helpful with the normal day-to-day maladies that would crop up. However, when a chronic and potentially debilitating condition raised it's ugly head and I found she was unable to help me, I sought another expert. What drew me to Jessica was her combination of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine expertise. What kept me going to Jessica was her desire to cater a treatment program for me that shifted as I got better. Every treatment with Jessica began with a series of questions about what was the same, what was different, how I was feeling better, and how, perhaps, I might be feeling worse. Then she decided how to proceed. I always had the feeling Jessica was as invested in my recovery as I was. And I can honestly say it helped in my healing process. Plus, her knowledge in her field is very interesting. Every question I asked, with a bystander's curiosity, was answered in both professional and laymen's terms. To be frank, it was totally cool. If you're thinking of going to Yunker Acupuncture, stop thinking and just go.

The Review

I started going to Jessica for poor circulation in parts of my body, and nerve pain in parts of my body after a head injury I got in the months before. Months after the head injury happened, I still had circulation, nerve, and speech problems. I have seen many doctors of all types from acupuncturists, to neurologists, to psychiatrists, to more general doctors. In total, I have seen about 12 healthcare practitioners for the problems I have been having after the head injury and by far I found her to be the most helpful, qualified, understanding, supportive, genuine, and competent out of all healthcare practitioners. I was disappointed by almost all the health practitioners I saw and found a lot of them not seeming to know enough about their studies, how to communicate effectively, how to give me solutions and make my condition better, and even to at least seem like a supportive and understanding person that cares and trying to help or wanting to help. But definitely not Jessica who truly was an amazing health practitioner that truly made a difference!

She was thoughtful about what she thought about the condition I have and giving helpful feedback about why condition is the way it is, informative about what she thought about the condition and what acupuncture is all about for the healing process and all the aspects of acupuncture, and showed understanding by being non-judgmental and knowing how to be there as a health practitioner and being honest and genuine about everything. Every question I asked, she always answered in a thoughtful informative way, and she always told me the types of acupuncture treatments she was doing, and how acupuncture has helped her life and even saved her life from having to get a surgery for her back and how nothing else but acupuncture helped her with that.

After just the first time seeing her, I immediately noticed amazing results with my condition and felt much better circulation, less nerve pain, and less speech problems, and as I gradually saw her for acupuncture treatment, my condition has gotten much better and I really feel like this issue in my life will be gone soon for good, and I didn't feel like that with almost any other health practitioner. Most other health practitioners just made it worse and made me feel more discouraged, hopeless, and frustrated by the healthcare people receive in America.

After my acupuncture experiences, I find acupuncture to definitely be a legitimate health treatment that can help people with all sorts of conditions and illnesses and truly make a difference in someone's life and healing process for a problem they have. Thank you Jessica Yunker for the acupuncture sessions that helped so much, and I hope things go well for the rest of your life!

I started going to Jessica after a long period of dissatisfaction with my treatment for anxiety and depression with pharmaceuticals. Jessica helped me during my transition off of pharmaceuticals, and through herbs and acupuncture has successfully been managing my anxiety and depression. Jessica also treats me for other ailments and injuries as needed with great outcomes. Jessica has also provided me with phone support in times of crisis, such as during onset of illness, and she was able to suggest herbal options to improve my health.

Jessica is a warm, thoughtful provider who really listens to me and who takes the time to see the bigger picture. Also, as a queer and trans person I always feel safe with her. She has also been very accommodating and will see me after work which makes scheduling a breeze.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Jessica!

I sought Jessica's care after injuring my foot which appeared to be on the order of a stress fracture, "treatment" for which is generally rest. As an active New Yorker, resting my foot was nearly impossible and so, in order to go about my daily routine a bit more comfortably and fast-track my return to working out and doing the things I love, I started seeing Jessica twice per week. Almost instantly, I felt improvement and gradually, the pain I felt with every step subsided. I am now injury-free, running and back to yoga on a daily basis!

Jessica truly employs a holistic approach and she experiments with different treatments to find those to which the injury best responds. She provides an inviting, caring atmosphere and is committed to improving the quality of her patients' lives.

In addition to my in-office treaments, upon Jessica's recommendation, which was the furthest information bite from a sales pitch, I purchased an oil which I continue to use to soothe overworked joints . . .it has proven to be an immediate antidote to those bursts of inflammation caused by aggressive workouts.

Currently, I am healed and feeling wonderful. However, should I encounter an injury again, I know that Jessica is the first person to whom I would reach out and seek treatment. Her knowledge is vast, she is dedicated to healing and her disposition lends itself to providing an overall healing experience. I would recommend Jessica without pause.

I started going to Jessica Yunker to address my frequent and debilitating migraine headaches. Now after about a year of acupuncture and herbs, I have less frequent and less painful migraines. Over the year, I have also gone in with additional complaints including anxiety, stomach pain and knee pain and she has always taken the time to talk about the best approach. Jessica truly cares about helping her patients and I have always been able to get an appointment when I've felt ill or needed to come in. She takes the time to listen to how I'm feeling and what's going in in my life that may impact my health. I have recommended Jessica to many friends and family and feel strongly that if you've never tried acupuncture to address a condition, Jessica would be a wonderful introduction to acupuncture and herbs because of her clear, professional and caring manner.

I visited Jessica after a two-year break from acupuncture. I'd moved to New York in 2005 and found an acupuncturist near my midtown office who hurried me in and out and charged me an arm and a leg; it turned me off and I came to the conclusion that I wouldn't find someone in the city who would take their time with me and charge reasonably. Well, two years and a herniated disc later I did a search for acupuncturists closer to my apartment and came across Jessica's website. After one visit I knew I was in good hands and with regular visits to her and a physical therapist, the intensity of my pain diminished and after about six months I was pain free. Each visit with Jessica was a discovery process. She wanted to know how I felt after the prior visit and what had transpired since then; she crafted her treatment only after absorbing all that we discussed. She introduced me to cupping, which allowed us to discover some areas of extreme tightness that I then continued to work out with physical therapy and massage. Acupuncture and alternative medicine take time and dedication but with a competent practitioner like Jessica, it is definitely time well spent.

I had never gotten acupuncture before, and I wasn't really sure what I was getting myself into, but my experience with Jessica was wonderful. She took the time to listen to me and really figure out what I was coming from, each and every session that we had. Whenever I had a question or a worry she made sure to talk with me about it. My sessions with her were the best part of my week.

I first went to Jessica Yunker for the treatment of some back pain I was experiencing.

Not only did she resolve my back issue, she resolved & eased many other health issues I was having.

I slept better, had decreased stress & anxiety, and was able to eliminate many sugar cravings.

I cannot say enough positive things about my experience. Her bedside manner and ability to listen & collaborate are outstanding.

If you are interested in acupuncture this is the place to go!

I have been seeing Jessica for two years, with excellent results. Her treatments have helped me to effectively manage chronic sinus problems and tension headaches. I've also turned to Jessica for more acute problems. Recently Jessica treated me immediately after a Root Canal. The treatment stopped the pain and discomfort in its tracks, and I was able to recover from the Root Canal without any medication. Jessica also has an excellent "bedside manner." She asks questions and, more importantly, she listens. She provides a relaxed, professional and friendly environment that really complements her treatments.

I started acupuncture with Jessica Yunker after beginning a new, and very intense job. I wasn't sleeping well and started having feelings of anxiety. My first appointment with Jessica was extremely thorough; she took two hours just to ask questions and fully understand the reasons I had come to acupuncture. Through our initial conversation, Jessica identified other areas of my health and life she could help me with.

Over the next six months, I went to Jessica regularly (usually once a week). My appointments were always something I looked forward to because of her positivity and care. After only two months, I started noticing that I was sleeping through the night and no longer had any symptoms of anxiety.

After five sessions, Jessica recommended some Chinese herbs that I could take as a supplement to my appointments with her.

While so many others I work with have turned to prescription medication to deal with the stress of the job, I was so happy to find that acupuncture was the answer for me. I would recommend this to anybody!

I've been a patient of Jessica Yunker's for three years. As a person with bipolar disorder, I had come to accept that I would spend my life taking a fair amount of medication, and that even while medicated, I would experience intense ups and downs. Since seeing Jessica, my mood has become far more stabilized than I ever thought it would be. I now take only a small dose of Western medicine and often take Chinese herbs. Jessica has been an ideal practitioner for me, as she is knowledgeable about Western medicine and supportive of my desire to use a collage of treatments. Jessica is caring and thoughtful--she is thorough, dedicated, and smart. In addition to treating my bipolar disorder, Jessica is my primary practitioner for all ailments--from colds and flu to stress to insomnia. I am in better health with Jessica than I have ever been before in my life. I cannot recommend seeking treatment with Jessica highly enough.

Jessica keeps on saying that acupuncture is not 'magic'. I'm sure she is right, I trust her. But the first time I met her I was desperate and now I'm so grateful. For the third time in my life 'the monster' of headache had come leaving me alone with a terrible inexpressible pain (it is also called 'suicide disease') stronger than all the medicines I had with me: this time they weren't working (cortisone, aspirins, ibuprofen and everything else I was swallowing eight/nine times a day). Moreover I was alone in New York, running the risk to go back home before completing my Italian PhD semester at Columbia University (what a pity it would have been!) if the pain hadn't stopped. I began to meet Jessica twice a week, to take the herbs she advised, to follow her advices and to use the essence oil of peppermint instead of swallowing pills (the first time she put the oil on my painful head side I began to think that she was making 'the' miracle). With the sessions of acupuncture she helped me to relax the nerve, to dissolve the attacks, to keep the monster away. I don't know if I have destroyed it definitely but I'm sure it doesn't like needles nor Jessica's delicate touch. I think she also has a gift. She can feel Someone Else's pain. And she works on it, pushing the body to fight the pain. With her you're no more alone with your pain. The result we have achieved is amazing and unexpected, the more I followed the treatment the better I was feeling. Now, I have no pain at all. Thanks to Jessica!

Although it sounds cliche, I can honestly say that the acupuncture & herb treatment that I
received from Jessica has changed my life. When I came to her I had been struggling with
depression for 2 years, and had already tried seeing a therapist. After just a couple of weeks
of once weekly acupuncture and daily herbs I began to feel noticeably better. I describe the
experience as feeling like the "clouds" that had always been looming over my head were
getting thinner and thinner with each passing week. It's been about four months now and
when I think back on the person I was when I started I hardly recognize her (thankfully!). I am so grateful to have been referred to Jessica by one of my friends...I refer others often.

Jessica is a great acupuncturist. One of the things I like the most is how thorough and thoughtful she is. She takes all the time we both need, for me to really arrive, feel listened to, and to receive the treatment, and for her to listen, plan her treatment, and carry it out. Makes me feel safe which is I think the first vital step to healing. Thanks Jessica!
