I always appreciate both the professionalism and the personal touch of the City Garage staff in Duncanville. They're the tops!

I am only giving three stars because I love chili dogs, they are my ultimate favorite thing!!! I am on a search for America's best chili dog!!! So whenever I got anywhere where there are chili dogs, I have to try them out!!! We were not all that impressed... It was definately a fun experience, the atmosphere was great, but the food was not as appealing!!! We probrably won't stop in on our next visit to ATL, but it was a great experience...

Classic!! This is a favorite, especially in the fall! If you like onion rings, these are some of the best! If you like hot dogs, they have great ones! If you like cheeseburgers, go! Everything is great! And a wonderful atmosphere!

This is a tradition that must not be broken. You must go here after a game and get your some greasy onion rings and a burger or hot dog and then one of those really yummy shakes. Plus you gotta get the Atlanta culture.."What'll ya have? What'll ya have?"

The Varsity is a must visit when you come to Atlanta. The slaw dog is great and I like the cold chocolate milk. The onion rings are good and greasy. What'll ya have?

It's in Atlanta institution. Get the slaw dog even if you think it's gross and a frozen orange. Know what you want before you step up to order, especially great before or after a GA Tech game.

I went to college down the street at Ga Tech and I love the Varsity. Chili dogs and onion rings are my highest recommendations. It doesn't get better than that!

I go every time I am in town. The food is actually quie bad. The famed hot dogs are just boiled hot dogs on a steamed soggy bun. Those who claim the food is good are delusional or have never eaten a decent hot dog. The atmosphere is what makes going to the varsity worth while. Just people watching is worth the price of the bad food.
I'm not sure which way to lean on it, on one hand there is a great atmosphere because you have the blend of different types of people that come here. Everyone from college kids to working professionals. On the other hand the food is really greasy, any the people could use a little more customer service training. The food tastes really good though, and even though I know its not good for me, I find myself craving The Varsity ever so often.
I coudn't say more but hot wings and FO are the best!
My friend and I visited this place one time and we were very delighted with the perky attendants welcoming us. The food they served was good, We were both very satisfied.
My brother and I visited this restaurant and the food they served us was good. Yes, it was greasy, but it tasted good. It was truly mouth watering. The wait staff was so cool and the ambiance was indeed full of life. We had an enjoyable time while finishing up our meal.
Not exactly health food, but you don't go here for that. Hot and greasy fries and onion rings, burgers and hotdogs...just thinking about it is making my mouth water.
We ate at The Varsity twice while we were in Atlanta for our mini vacation. We ate here after seeing The Varsity on the Travel channel for their hotdogs.
Me and my fianc? wanted to try the hotdogs and hamburger so we got the Braves special with 2 hotdogs, fries and a drink and got a cheesburger too. We split the cheesburger and each got a hotdog. Both were REALLY good. The fries weren't the best, they were soft and greasy. We also got an order of onion rings and they were GREAT!.
We would def. eat here again the next time we go to or travel through Atlanta.
Oh, and they have tons of seating and parking, so there is no problem finding a spark to park or a seat to eat ate.
Pros: Great food, loved the look of the building
Cons: Nothing for us
Seriously, does this place even need to have reviews?? The Varsity is a staple of Atlanta with it's greasy food, hot chili dogs, crispy onion rings, and much more to fill you up! "Whaddya Have?" is what you will hear as soon as you enter into this restaurant. With its upbeat and loud employees, The Varsity is a great place to go before any sports game in Atlanta! It is packed before Falcons games and Braves game and is also the late night spot of choice for those Braves stragglers that had too much fun the Bud Zone at the game! If you visit Atlanta, this is a place you MUST try!

Pros: www.paypalshops.us
Cons: www.paypalshops.us
I know this might sound crazy but The Varsity has the best Egg Salad sandwich in town.
Love the fried peach and apple pie.
Pros: Love It
Ok, so while at a convention inAtlanta (Sept. 8 thru 13, 2009) we heard about The Varsity and the locals rave reviews..OMG! McDonald's would have been a better place to enjoy a hamburger. I got their famous chili cheeseburger and it was smaller than a McD's child's hamburger. The chili was almost none existent. I almost stood up and shouted "Hey Where's the beef?" when looking for the meat pattie and the fries were so greasy it turned my stomach so I threw them away after one bite. The only good thing was the coke products as I hate pepsi.
If you are looking for afordable food that you can actually eat, try somewhere else. You can be sure I will not eat here again nor recommend it to anyone else.
Pros: Big place
Cons: Everything else
This place is truly a frat boy dream, the hot dogs are amazing and this place is a throwback to the 50s Drive-Ins.
truly not to miss.
Pros: BEST HOT DOGS IN THE SOUTH
Cons: the wait
Well, if you want to see a bunch of idiots showing off their cars and motorcycles, the first thursday of each month is a great night to raise your bloodpressure!!! Not only can you eat a deep fried hotdog (bun and all), but you can watch Atlantas finest chase a bunch of ricers when they leave the lot!!! hehe!!!
Pros: First Thursday of each month Import Tuner Car Show!!!
Cons: Fried Everything!!!
The burgers are full of filler and much smaller than the burgers you get at other places. My onion rings stayed warm for a few seconds after I got them. Then I found myself stuck eating cold onion rings. Maybe tradition is not the only important factor, Varsity! Get some decent quality ingredients and serve them up hot!
Pros: It's a landmark. It has been here since way back when.
Cons: The food portions are small, greasy and cool in under a min.
I've been eating at the Varsity for over 50 years now and my standard order for that entire time has been a Chilii dog, Chili Cheese Burger with pimento chees, an order of the world's best onion rings and two PCS (chocolate nilk on shaved ice). A couple of people here (urbanprincess and gross come to mind) have been to a varsity that I've never experienced.
Pros: The food and sharing a dining experience with thousands of other people at once.
Cons: Sharing a dining experience with thousands of other people at once.
Okay, so I had been tempted to try the food at the Varsity ever since I heard about it through word of mouth after moving to the Atlanta area last year. Boy, was I disappointed!! First of all the establishment looks like an outdated high school cafeteria. The staff appeared to be mostly teenagers who were grouped up behind the registers looking as though they had something better to do. I ordered a cheeseburger and onion rings, not knowing that the cheeseburger only comes with the patty, cheese and a bun. After realizing this, I took my receipt and burger back to the register thinking that they had left off the condiments and toppings and that's when a girl behind the counter told me that that was how they came. The onion rings were good, but very greasy. I personally would not recommend the burger unless you like bland, kid's meal-sized burgers. Most likely I will not be returning to this so-called Atlanta "landmark."
Pros: Plenty of Parking
Cons: Food, Service
I've been in and out of Atlanta for 20 years, and never been to the Varsity until last weekend. None of my ATL friends will "deign" to dine there, so I went on a whim. And I got just what I expected...old fashioned, greasy, beat-a-hangover junk food...nothing fancy, but the "arnold's from Happy Days" kinda stuff. The onion rings were great...and I paid for them for days...I probably missed some of the charm of the place since I only did pick-up (how many places besides S-nic actually have car-hop waiters?) and the burger, well, I hate to say, I prefer Mc'D, and I never eat there...but now I can say that I've eaten at an Atlanta Landmark
Pros: quick, no-nonsence service, good hang-over cure, cheap, old-fashioned stuff
Cons: yougetwhatyoupayfor, very limited menu, don't go if you're on a diet
What more could I ask for? Another greasy meal. Historic landmark and I can see why! If I could eat there everyday, I would.
Pros: Great burgers.
Cons: Long line during lunch.
Wonderful, affordable food. Great and fast customer service. Crowded on the weekends, primarily Sundays.
Pros: A nice place to soak up some of Atlanta's ambience.
Cons: Not a good place to dine if you're counting calories.
I went to the Varsity after a afternoon of sightseeing with my out of town guests. I had never been there and thought it would be another great way for them to experience Atlanta. WRONG!!!! I shouldv'e taken my initial reaction after stepping inside as a clue to turn and run. The staff was less than friendly and it had a high school cafeteria feel to it. I sat down with my burger and for a second, I thought "they must've forgotten to put the patty on the bun". But it was there. It was just so microscopic that it was actually smaller than than the bun. It was sloppy and looked very unappealing. Only thing I could compare it to is a McDonalds cheeseburger, which actually would've tasted and looked better. The fries were limp and heavy. The onion rings were good. The prices do not match the quality of the food. That burger should've been $.79.
Do yourself a favor, skip this Atlanta "landmark" and go to Five Guys where $6 gets you great service, perfectly cooked freshcut fries and a juicy 1/2 lb burger.
Pros: good onion rings, lots of free parking, lots of seating
Cons: poor quality food, overpriced, overrated, unfriendly service
It is always interesting to take someone to the Varsity for the First Time.... I do all the ordering and show them how to fix the dogs and steaks... A Heavyweight Chilidog, a Glorified ChiliSteak, a Large PC, a large FO, and on, and on... The very best anywhere! If you remember Flossie or Kirby Walker and the "tittle tot from Agnes Scott" jingle the Varsity ahs great memories for you! It is Great to be able to get a Varsity Fix in Cobb County, Gwinnett County and in Alpharetta, however the BEST IS STILL ON NORTH AVENUE! Bury me with a ChiliDig and a Fried Apple Pie...... I'll be happy for Eternity.....
Pros: GREAT and NOSTALGIC MEALS
Cons: Those dogs can "bark at night"...
Everytime I visit Atlanta I always stop at THe Varsity. It's a place where if your an avid hot dog, hamburger, or sandwich lover you'll be in heaven! THe people that work there are always very nice and try to help their customers in any way. If you don't know what something is on the menu ask...don't just order something that you think has a cool name. The french fries and onion rings are awesome...try this place and you'll come back again and again!
Pros: fast place
Cons: if crowded parking might be a little challenging
After every Braves game, their is only one place my kids love to go. We have a similar place in Chicago, but this place in Atlanta is a classic. Chili dogs, lttle burgers, french-fries, and greasy onion rings. My kids love those Varsity hats. This place makes us proud to be Americans.
Pros: Great All-American Drive In! Kids Love It.
To all the "one star" heathen: we KNOW it's greasy! Personally, I cannot stomach the onion rings, but have grown to respect, nay, ADMIRE those who can and do and live to sing their praises. We KNOW it's filthy. I once watched a suited corporate executive remove his shoe there and in mid-sentence smash a [deleted offensive crawly thing] against the wall without so much as batting an eye. We KNOW the staff is rude. Their mock incivility makes us giddy with laughter as we swap stories about how badly they've treated us in the past. We already KNOW all the things you don't like about our beloved Varsity. But we go there anyway. Don't you always go home to see your family during the holidays? And as much as they drive you crazy, is there any place you'd rather be?
Pros: Always busy, yet always fast
Cons: No cardiac care facility within fainting distance
It is what it is - a burger and hot dog joint. Don't have unrealistic expectations and you won't be disappointed. It's a wonderful throwback to an era when people didn't order salads instead of burgers or raisins instead of french fries. The service is lightning-fast, and they serve the best hot dogs ever. The french fries and onion rings can be hit-or-miss, but when they're good they're amazing. Don't miss the Frosted Orange - it's like a creamsicle shake.
Pros: All the food!
Cons: Heart attack on a plate
If you love down home, deep fried road food, this is the place! Located conveniently off the interstate, it's easy to find and lots of parking. The decor is bright lights, big diner and the counter staff was trained by the "soup-natzi" (the censorship natzi's wouldn't allow the word spelled correctly!?), so be sure you're ready before you step up to order... The hamburger buns are freshly baked and the burgers hot and fresh. The onion rings are awesome, and save room for a peach fried pie. Wash it all down with a frosted orange (dreamsicle like beverage) and run for the alka selzer!!
Pros: Fresh, comfort food, FAST
Cons: not tons of healthful choices, but who cares!?
You can't eat there very often or you'll look like Subway Jared before the Subway. The rings are awesome and I highly recommend the chili cheese slaw dog. Slaw on a hot dog? Yes, in Georgia it seems so. Always an interesting mix of people - we saw a wedding reception group on our last visit.
Pros: price, the rings & the dogs
Cons: grease attack, but it's expected right?
Loved the Onions rings very fresh cut. Didn't like the fries. The chili dogs where ok, didn't like the chili hamburgers. Good experience and love the free varsity hats. Always crowded but lines move fast.....
Pros: great onion rings, cheap eats
Cons: didn't care for the fries..
And I do mean legend. Before McDonald's, Wendy's, and Burger King, Atlanta had the Varsity. I went with my parents as a kid, in high-school-after every football game, and now as a business man, when I need a good grease fix. Everyone from President's Carter and Clinton, to Hollywood's elite, are fans. It's not for everyone, since Atlanta is changing, but for the one's who like tradition, it's still the place. As a kid, the car-hops from Nipsey Russel and Flossy Mae, were part of the routine. Just give me a chile-dog, rings, and a large P.C.9(That's Pure Chocolate). Only the strong survive!
Pros: Best Original Greasy Fast Food Ever!
Cons: Can't go as often, as I would like!
I have loved the Varsity my entire life. It's the typical lunch stop for Metro Area school field trips, and my personal favorite for before or after Braves games. The prices are cheap, and the energy is nonstop. They definately get people in and out with their constant yelling "Whattya have?" The only downside is that as a vegetarian, I have always been stuck to getting a grilled cheese sandwich. Upside to that of course is that I have yet to end up sick from the Varsity...something not many people can say!
Pros: quick service, landmark, fun drive in
Cons: may make you sick, bad veggie options
The varsity has been one of my favorites for many years the chili dogs onion rings and frosted orange are at the top of my list of favorites, the Varsity is one of my favorite places to eat, always crowded and noisy but in a good way, it's always fun. It's one of a very few places that hasn't changed much since the fiftys I guess thats why it's always so busy I can still remember my first visit with my Grandmother,we were visiting my Grandfather who was in the hospital, we ate then carried a couple of chilidogs to the hospital for my Grandfather, I was in the first grade it must have been fifty or fiftyone,I carried my Grandmother to the the varsity for last time in 93,she passed away a couple of years later.Any time I think of the Varsity I always think of my Grandma & Grandpa,
Pros: Chilidogs& onion rings are great, nice atmosphere is good always fun
Cons: ?
To appreciate the Varsity properly, you must have grown up in Atlanta, Some, like myself, remember it as a treat back in the early 50's, when they were still competing with the Yellow Jacket (long gone). Then, there was the high school days--in my case, the early 60's when it was the destination of choice for after the prom. Then there were the college days, when you could check out any of the existing three tv channels for free as a study break at Tech. You should have seen the TV rooms on the night that the Beattles were on Ed Sullivan! It goes on from there! Now, I actually have my flight attendant sister bring me chili dogs on her connections from Atlanta to my home in New Orleans! It's not really about the food so much--it is our living memories. it should be designated as a national landmark!
Pros: chili dogs!, onion rings!, Varsity orange!
Cons: miss the carhops!
The atmosphere is great and every tourist needs to stop in! Takes you back to the 1950s. However, the food leaves much to be desired. The chocolate milkshake didn't taste very good and didn't settle well. The fries and onion rings were too greasy to enjoy. I'd go back for the mood, but not the food.
Pros: Great atmosphere, plenty of seating
Cons: Greasy food
Ok, this place is a classic. They can serve a LOT of people and never break stride. Assembly line work at its best.
The food is ok but the portions are small. The burger I had was tiny, I was 1/3 of the way through it before I bit into the patty. The onion rings RULED as did the FO. The chocolate shake was so-so, like McDonalds.
I opted for a #4 - the chili dog and chili burger with onion rings (or fries) and a med drink. The dog was ok, more chili than dog. The burger was tiny. Kind of greasy though. About 3 hours later it hit me. What I thought was a chili dog/burger combo ended up being a total gut grenade.
The only downside is that a lot of people were having to return their orders since they were given the wrong food.
Pros: cheap, fast
Cons: small portions
This is my favorite restaurant in whole world. I have been coming to The Varsity every since I was kid. My family and I pull up outside and Flossy Mae the Carhop with the most incredible hats I have ever seen. Lots of colors and he was always good for giving kids a Varsity hat. I still go today and get a hat, of course I'm 21 now. But that place I can still be a kid there. Remember the peach pies are the BEST
Pros: Good Parking Sometime, Great Food, Different T.V. Rooms
Cons: Sometimes Crowded, Parking, A lil expensive
When I wasn't studying at nearby Georgia Tech in the 60-70's, I was spending time at the V...after ordering, you take your food into one of the many TV rooms, tilt your head back and then let 'er slide down...yummy! It's been a while since I've eaten there since I'm no longer living within a day's drive ... I do think of it often as it brings back many good memories...it was the best on cold winter nights when burning the midnight oil for exams. While I graduated, I feel like a flunky compared the the V's founder, Tech dropout Frank Gordy! Black comic Nipsey Russell was a carhop who got his start there while practicing on a captive car-audience! Great place!
Pros: Food, Ordering, TV Rooms
Cons: Sometimes noisy, needs more locations, Are you kidding!!!
The WORST fast food money can buy!!! Greasier than you can imagine!
Don't look for anything special here except great chilli dogs and onion rings. This is a great fast food place to indulge and the peoples reviews below must have had different expectations of this place.
The Varsity is a true Atlanta staple for fast greasy food when you are in the mood for it. Everyone has to go at least once.
Pros: chili dogs, onion rings, ATL cultural resto
Not only does The Varsity have the best burger in Atlanta it has the best burger in the south. Worth the drive if you're within the city limits.
Pros: Inexpensive, Good food, Friendly setting
Love this place! It is a "drive in" with character and charm. The fresh rolls make the hot dogs! Fries are wonderfully greasy fries like we had back in the 1950s.
I lived in Marietta from 1981-86 and try to get back for visits every year. The Varsity is always my 1st stop on the way in and the last stop on the way out of town. Everyone needs a greasy chili dog, fries and an FO every once in awhile. Whatta ya have, whatta ya have! You've got to love it.
Pros: good service, fun
Cons: , acquired taste
I love The Varsity! Yeah, it may be a little greasy, but it's really good! WHat I like most is at The Varsity, Jr. you can just order and eat in your car. SOunds relaxing, huh? No more going in the food place or going through a drive-thru and having to end up eat while driving! They have very, very nice people there to serve yoU!! The service is very nice and you don't have to wait on your food forever.
Pros: good service, good food, NICE employees!
Cons: , greasy food
If you are looking for a scenic route - park out side and eat at the drive up! Very Best Hot dogs and Hamburgers, also homemade ONION Rings are delicious and at a convenient price! I love to eat in the car at the drive up.
Pros: Inexpensive, Good parking, good service
