This comment is actually about Dr. Mike Hellman...he has taken care of my dogs for 30 years. We had one dog live to be 16 one dog live to be 18 (this dog he saved from near death experiences3 times, poisoning, severe dehydration while we were on vacation and a horrible case of gastrointeritis) and one who just passed away from congestive heart failure at17 in december. Dr. Mike lovingly prepared us for what was to come last summer and we were able to let her die in her sleep, in comfort with no pain, around Christmas time. 2 out of our 3 dies have peacefully died in their sleep of old age because of the care and compassion of Dr. Mike. As a family, we feel so blessed to have such a great men looking after our animals. I cannot say enough about someone who actually just saved.. my puppy from an incident where she got into rat poison. He stayed after hours and kept her from dying, she is now 5 months old and happy....this is one veterinarian that I would trust no matter what!

I have had a few different animals through the years and have trusted the vets here the whole way. I had a dog from a pet store that was with the vets her for the first 6 weeks of her life. She had no chance of living and they miraculously saved her. She just passed after 14 years with our family and Dr. Mike was nothing but great through it all. If you are shopping for price they are average but I will I have found they have one of the best staffs I have found in California. I would recommend them to anyone looking for great care for their animals.

I had a beloved dog that was with us for 12 years. We took him to River Oak for all his pet needs. So we weren't to concerned when we took him in because of a lump that we found. The vet checked him and ran some tests and found that he had cancer. We were given insufficient info and false hope. The surgery was going to be pricey and we were told that because of the location that the vet would get it and it wouldn't come back. UNTRUE! After convincing us to try one more surgery because "The vet stated that he must of missed some" 2 months later I had to put him to sleep. If they had been upfront and honest I would never have put Jack through that and I would have enjoyed the time that he had left making him comfortable. I will never take any other pets there and would never recommend anyone take theirs there either unless you hate your animals!

I am limited to 5000 words to describe all the reasons I love this vet....They love our dog. They love every animal that comes into their hospital. Who wouldn't appreciate that?!!The most recent experience was this past month. Our son was deploying to Iraq and just before leaving discovered a tumor on his dog's paw. We took the dog to see Dr Shaner and long story short - the dog required surgery and subsequently needed to be boarded there at the hospital. When she was home, we had to change her bandage twice a day requiring all sorts of bandages and supplies. Dr Shaner and his staff were more than generous, the kindest people we've ever dealt with, and kept the dog the weekend our son deployed so we could be with him.I feel like they're family now. I would NEVER go to another vet - even though one of my good friends husband is a vet, we're so confident in Dr Shaner and all the vets at River Oak. They really are the best!!They fully meet and exceed all expectations, are the best value for any service I've ever received anywhere, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone for any thing!!

We've been going to River oak in Riverbank, CA for almost 2 years now and everytime we go wether it be for a small problem or big (had a couple) , they've been great! Their attitude for animals is amazing!! They are very very friendly and have no problems answering questions over the phone if you have concerns.
We feel comfortable leaving our pets in their care. We have 2 border collies, 1 cat, 2 finches and a gold fish : )

Thanks River Oak!!!!

A little more pricey then other vets. But I feel the really care about the animals they take care of. Very helpful staff. The Techs are very warm and seem to really love the animals.

Since our pets are like our family the choice of a good vet is like picking a good peditrican, you must go with your gut instincts. The employees of River Oak Vet are very nice and seem genuinely concerned for the welfare of the animals in their care. Unfortuately, we had a situation where our dog broke his leg. They casted his leg and the cast fell off in their lobby. They recasted him. It fell off two days later. They recasted him and it fell off a few days later. By this time, we were really concerned and decided to take him elsewhere to finish his treatment.
