06/18/12: 'time for change'
I didn't appreciate a visit that when the Vet & Tech left the room the computer screen was left on and open (for my "nosy"ness to read). I didn't like the tone that the things were written about us. I never complained to anyone, but I left feeling very insulted. It seemed a bit unprofessional (even if I wasn't supposed to see it) and that appointment made me decide that we were changing Vets (after almost 9 years of going there) because you request a Vet & you don't end up with the one you want.
I've been coming to Brighton Eggert Animal Clinic for many years and have never had a problem. I've seen all the doctors and all of them are knowledgeable and caring to my many pets. If there's a major issue with one of my kids I can usually get them in within the same day. Sometimes there's a wait to get in, but I know there's a lot of patients that need to be taken care of also. The costs of their services are fair. For us going to the doctor, luckily we have insurance, and don't have to pay the full price. We can get everything done for our pets under one roof - x-rays, blood work, hospitalization if necessary, etc... unless there is a specialist involved for further diagnostics. We always receive reminders when my kids are due for their next yearly check up. I really like how they have urgent care hours now also. They are right down the street for me which is convenient for me and my pets, since they don't like the car.
I've been a client off and on for about 10 years. To tell you the truth I take my animal to two different vets. WHY? Cost, it's simple. Brighton-Eggert does give good quality care but they do run a bit more expensive BUT when you get multiple shots you get a discount. But there advantage is more costly....ok so here's what I do! When my pets need multiple shots I get their office visit with ear cleaning, toes clipped and all there shots done. When they are sick I take them to McBride Animal (GET CROSS the female vet not the goofy guy) they are much cheaper. I had a dog once with a severe spinal injury and they were the best ever. His bill was huge and they put me on a monthly payment plan and they continued to treat him and I paid what I could every month. Took me over a year to pay them in full. SO if you've got a healthy animal and only need a yearly and you get all those required AND optional shots B-E is your vet (some are good and caring and some are not so personable but they all seem qualified) If you've got an older or sickly pet move on over to McBride.
I also stopped going here mostly because of the absurd prices and their non-caring attitude. I have to disagree with the previous two posts. First of all, I would always get a different vet.... I never had a vet who really seemed to care. They would play on your heartstrings. For example, my cat has a heart murmur. They wanted to send me to a "cat heart specialist" and the initial visit would cost around $350. When I told them I couldn't afford it, they told me they knew of a person who's cat had a heart murmur and they found the cat dead!! What a thing to say!!

I have to respond to the lady who thinks she is being nickel a nd dimed to death. Prices are not cheap, I agree BUT you get what you pay for and as far as I am concerned, my animals are worth every penny and I wouldn't trade Dr. Miska for all the money in the world, and Dr. Mahoney is also a treasure. They both care about the animals, not the money.
The doctors have no control of the prices, sadly that is controlled by the corporation that purchased the business.
I live on SocialSecurity, but let me tell you, my animal children come first and I do not trust anyone but Dr. Miska and Dr. Mahoney. It is very tough to afford sometimes, but I take care of my kids with the best doctors in Western New York in my opinion. I feel sorry for you that you put money first.

I have read a lot of reviews on this vet about, not seeing the same doctor, the cost blah blah?Firstly if you want to see the same vet , ask when you make your appointment. We have 4 cats. @ that have no issues and I see whoever, one with asthma and one with dental issues. First Dr Shondi?WONDERFUL! Our asthmatic cat is very cranky at the vet. He is so wonderful with him and really took the time to explain our cats condition and how to treat it. Because he gets so stressed at the office Dr Shondi calls us every month to follow up. Second, Dr Barr. She sees our cat with dental issues. She was so kind and caring, coming in on days off to check on our cat, researching her condition on her own time at home. She is awesome. They are worth every cent. Those 2 docs are outstanding! Like I said if you want to see the same doc each time, just ask. I would send anyone to them! My cats are so worth it.

DON'T CONSIDER THIS PLACE! \r
I had taken my pets there for 30 years until the owner sold the clinic and it is being run like store with little concern or empathy for pets. I have been nickeled and dimed to death and have had horrible misdiagnoses and improper treatment for my dog's eyes which after countless visits, are still not right. They also have exorbitant charges for medications and could care less about the cost of treatment. The vet turn over is high and the vets come and go and you never see the same vet twice. I wanted to leave many times due to their incompetence and now I am glad to move on. I wouldn't mind the cost, if I felt like they cared about my dog instead of their high fees...then compounded by poor service! I feel like they treat me and my pets as monetary instruments instead of patients. It is so bad that I feel they they wil soon start charging additional for ""floor clean up"" when a pet urinates on the floor due to nerves about their visit! GO ELSEWHERE
i had taken my pets there for years until the owner sold the clinic to a corporation. then i was basically nickeled and dimed to death. between paying extra for services and the horrible customer service, i knew it was time to go. i found a wonderful vet elsewhere.
I would RUN fast from this office unless you don
I recently moved into the WNY area and was searching for a new vet. This clinic happened to be the closest to our house and being unfamiliar with the area, we gave it a shot. It was the worst decision we ever made. Expect to wait 1 to 3 hours AFTER your appointment time in order to be seen. Also, expect for the vet (we saw them all and had the same experience with each) to be cold to your animal and not very knowledgeable about canine disease. They also will not take the time to explain anything to you. You are rushed out a.s.a.p. probably because they overbook each day. We have 3 dogs and have taken them all here, they charge way to much for the service you actually receive. \r

I will leave you with the story of the diahrrea problems we had with our new husky puppy. Brighton-Eggert tested his stool for worms/bacteria/etc and charged us $60 for it. Said nothing was wrong and the diahrrea should clear up on its own. It didn't. A month later we had him tested again, same result. This occurred 3 times. That's $180 in poop testing charges. We then take a trip back home to Kansas for Christmas and take the puppy to be neutered at our old vet. Without charging us a nickel, our old vet noticed he had worms just by LOOKING at his poop and gave him a shot (FOR FREE). It cleared up in a week. Brighton-Eggert couldn't even figure that out in the 6 months we taking them to him.\r

I STRONGLY DISCOURAGE ANYONE WHO CARES FOR THEIR PET FROM USING THIS VET.
Yes, I do save up for my dogs yearly visit to Brighton-Eggert Clinic. My dogs have visited the vets. there since the 1960's,I was a kid with(tall thin older gray haired guy with mustache) a German Shepard! Yes, it does seem less personal, but so do my visits to MY doctor! It is just the way things are these days. When I called around to try to find cheaper care for my dogs, guess what? Everyone cost a lot! Some even MORE. I also get 'sticker shock' at the grocery! All the more reason for us all to take BETTER CARE of ourselves and our pets so that unnecessary visits are not needed.
I had been a customer of Brighton Eggert Animal Clinic for 9+ years. My last visit there was ridiculous. After all these years I left there feeling like I was being nickeled and dimed to death! I was told one thing in the examination room and charged something totally different when I checked out. I have left there the last few times frustrated and finally have had enough! I will not go back there no matter what! Anyone who goes there should really look at their invoices and decide if they are really worth the bother. I have found a WONDERFUL vet right up the road.
