I've been going here for years, dog shots, health issues, etc. I've always brought my new pups for vet check and never was charged until today. I contact them and was told I've always been charged. I KNOW this is not true as I always ask if there's a vet check charge in case it's changed and it's always been NO until I got home and got a bill. It's not so much the amount as it is them blatantly lying about it. Therefore, I will not be EVER going back.

I will never go back! My six week old Great Dane passed away a little less than 13 hours after his first set of shots and when I called Prairie Animial Hosiptal and explained to them they JUST gave them his health and wellness examination the day before and how could this be they offered an autopsy method. After we went through with the autopsy it took six weeks to get all the results, which is fine, but WE had to HASSLE them to call us and let us know any new information they have learned about. Heck, even a call once a week would have sufficed whether it be new information or not because it felt like they didn't care about our situation or their customers. I had to call Dr. Ellis who was performing the autopsy herself at WSU to find out ANY information and she was more helpful than anyone in our traumatic situation. Too much work for the very little results we received. Receptionist was also rude and lied to me about supposed information they received. I WILL not return or recommend this place.

I was recommended Prairie Animal Hospital back in April of 2008 when my "Baby" calico cat of 16 yrs was showing signs of old age and distress. I took her in and after a diagnosis of a tumor in her little chest, I busted out crying as I realized my time with best girlfriend was limited. Dr. Sherman even had a tear in her eye and that's when I knew I had a vet for life. Over the next six months, I visted the office every Saturday picking up my weekly shots for my "Baby" and was always greated with smiles and compassion. In September, I asked to talk to Dr. Sherman and she was happy to make time for me. I aked her about how I would know when the time was right to bring my baby in (No one wants to do this any sooner than they absolutely have to) and Dr. Sherman was gracious and caring. On October 2nd I called Prairie and asked if Dr. Sherman was available on the 3rd to be the one to put my Baby down and she was. My husband and I got to the office at our schedule appointment and Dr. Sherman was there with the compassion and sympathy one could only expect from a lifetime personal doctor. After the most worst moment of my life, Dr. Sherman took extra time with me to listen to stories about my Baby and when all was said and done, gave me hug and said.. "You gave Baby a summer I never expeccted her to have, I didn't expect her make it a week when you brought her in (in April) but you did." That's when I asked her if she would be my vet for life. she said she would be happy to, and added "I'll be happy to see you again when you find your new best friend." Soon after, I even recieved a wonderful sympathy card signed by the staff and obviously initiated by Dr. Sherman. Although the card made me very sad at the rememberance of what I went through, I was relieved to know that I had made the right choice in veterinary clinics and I never had to worry about where to take another friend.

I for one expect to make Prairie Animal Hospital my hospital for life and Dr. Sherman is the angel to all animals.

Thank you so much.

We had a traumatic experience with our dog and we could not have asked for better care and compassion than with Prairie Animal Hospital. We were staying in Lake Couer D'Alene when our dog took very ill. We were going to drive home (5 hours away) but a compassionate person told us where to go. Prairie Animal Hospital squeezed us in and were so loving and compassionate during our time of stress. It was hard for us to go to strangers but they were wonderful. Our wonderful pet Bailey had to be put down for he had reached his end of life at 13.5. It was wonderful to find such a place during our time of need. The Maehlums

Unsurpassed!! Prairie Animal Hospital has treated all of my "babies". They have always been knowledgeable, friendly and caring. Their reputation is top-notch and I have seen that consistently over the last 25 years. They go out of their way to ask questions...make suggestions and their treatment is thorough. When my last furry child became very ill and her time with me was slipping away....the staff tried everything they could to save her, but in the end we all had to let go. A few days later, I asked for a meeting with one of the vets to discuss what had happened. They obliged me! That means a lot to me. Recently, I took several pages of a "MSDS" report to their office for their opinions about whether our lawn service was using any toxic chemicals. Prairie Animal's people reviewed the paperwork and called me TWICE with recommendations...no charge. SO, how can you do better than that? My review of Prairie is that they are GREAT!! Hopefully, you care for your animals as much as I do - and will trust Prairie - they have a stellar reputation in our area....deservedly so!!

I feel this Prairie is a great place to bring your animals. Whenever I bring my bird or puppy in, they always shower my babies with love and affection. I have been to vet practices where nobody even looks up to smile at my pride & joys. Vets & techs who arent even working with my animal will walk by and say hello to them. The veterinarians I work with have never made me feel rushed or that I was asking too many questions- always very informative and open minded.

The only complaint I do have is when I brought my bird in for a yearly exam, the assistant tech did not know how to handle birds at all- I was a little upset with that, but the actual veterinarian was knowledgable- I just wish she would have said something to her assistant, as I am too shy to speak up.

Being a first time pet owner and it being my first visit to a vet I was not sure what to expect or what to do. I made it clear when I scheduled the appointment that I was a new pet owner and then again when I arrived. I came into contact with two receptionists, two veterinary assistants and the vet, none of whom bothered to introduce themselves to me. I was sold an AVID microchip, without being made aware of any other options available not even the new AKC chip that I would have been VERY interested it, or being told that there were additional costs in addition to the implant fees. The assistant took my 9 week old puppy away from me and did not tell me where she was taking him or what she was doing. When I had questions for the vet after the exam he was visibly annoyed by my questions. I was scolded for him being overdue on his shots. Mind you, my vet appointment was 4 days after I brought the pup home. I got no positive feedback or encouragement of any kind. There was almost no conversation or narration of what was being done to my animal. Their animal skills may have been adequate to get the job done, but their people skills left MUCH to be desired. I felt rushed in and rushed out. They treated me as if I should know the routine. I was very upset when I left and even more upset that I did not complain to them.

They helped us with a very difficult emergency medical situation and worked us in without a long wait or causing a delay with their already scheduled patients. Every staff member I have come into contact with whethere it's via phone, or in person from the front desk, techs, and veterinarians have treated me with respect, even if I felt my questions were silly, I was assured they were not.

Thank you Prairie!

The people at Prairie Animal Hospital really care about your pet and realize that they are "family". You feel confident leaving your pet with them knowing the quality of care they will receive. I have taken all my pets there for years and I have always been happy with their service. I highly recommend them.

PROS: Quality Care, Caring Attitudes

I wanted a place that would offer help to find the right stuff for my animals. I had to find another pet supplies place that was never crowded like Pet Co. I was a first time owner and was very new to the whole animal situation. I went in to Ark Pet Supplies with the new addition to my family and we had our own little personal assistant. They helped us find everthing we needed and some stuff that was just fun. They helped us all ajust to the new situation and made it comfortable and easy.

PROS: personal - helpful - polite

We can not say enough positive things about this vet office. They are always very helpful and have the best reputation in the community. Their office is set up nicely with the rooms very close to the main area. I will admit, though, that it does depend on which vet you get. They are all very helpful, but some do not count the visit down to the last penny (which is helpful when they charge per quill to get porcupine needles taken out of your dogs mouth)!

This is the best vet around in my opinion! They are always very helpful and can always "squeeze" you in if it's an emergency! They care for small animals as well as large animals such as horses! Wonderful staff as well!
