then Blue Smoke is the place for you. After reading mixed reviews and visiting their very well maintained and appetizing website, I decided to try the place out for myself. Although my party was seated right away, the service was quite speedy, and the employees were fairly respectable, the food can only be described as putrid. My friend and I ordered ribs for two which included Memphis Baby Backs, Kansas City Spareribs, and Texas Beef Ribs along with Mac and Cheese on the side. The food came within minutes and looked very appealing, causing my mouth to water instantly.
I began with the Mac and Cheese, having very high hopes. However, after shifting the top layer of golden melted cheddar, what laid beneath seemed to be a smear of dairy diluted by a gallon of hot water. Instead of Macaroni and Cheese, it should have been called, Macaroni con Agua. After biting into the dry, rough, and bland meat of the ribs, my friend and I were taken further down the path of disappointment. Forget about fall of the bone, melt in your mouth, the texture was so dreadful, I felt as if I was chewing on rubber. By the end of the meal, my jaw felt sore from all the rigorous exercise that I had put it through. It is a good thing I had ordered something to drink or the mountain of salt used to preserve this ancient slab of meat would have caused severe dehydration. At least now I know why they put so many different sauces on the table; to compensate for the lack of taste of their food. Maybe the service is so fast because everything has been sitting there since the place opened years ago. Giving this restaurant more than a star would be a crime against taste buds everywhere!

I always have a great time at Blue Smoke but this time seemed even better. The night I was there proved how much of a difference great service can make to a meal. We had an awesome server who made perfect suggestions and took great care of our table. The manager came over and asked how our meal was and then handed his card out and said if we needed anything to reach out. It was impeccable service in addition to an amazing dinner. We started with hush puppies which have an accompanying sauce that has a bit of a kick. We split the salmon, chicken and pulled pork alongside some mac and cheese. Oddly enough, for being a BBQ place, I'm not a huge fan of their ribs, but their other items more than make up for it. Their wings are seasoned to perfection and their mac and cheese is so rich and delicious. For dessert we had this bread pudding that had bits of bacon in it which sent us into a salty sweet food coma. Had a great night here!

I've been to Blue Smoke a handful of times since it opened and the ribs are definitely well above average for NYC. It's in the same league as the other popular city BBQ places...Dinosaur, RUB, Hill Country and probably better than Brother Jimmy's. The decor and atmosphere is a little unusual for a "rib joint" being a tad upscale but that has nothing to do with the food. Service is good as well as the bar but the quality of the food seems inconsistent. One night the food is great and another afternoon, it seemed leftover and dry. When it's good it's very good and when it's bad, it's not worth it and definitely over-priced. I even tried some of their ribs at a Mets game at Citi Field and was quite surprised at how good it was considering I was at a baseball game. For New York City, it's still well above average BBQ and worth a try...but if you're from Texas, Kansas City, Memphis or Carolina, you may be disappointed.

DMANBURGER ??Blue Smoke?

Ever since I started writing about burgers, people have harped on me to try Danny Meyer??s contribution to the burger world. I doggedly avoided patronizing the obvious invention of Shake Shack, opting not to anguish in long lines and potentially overrated smash burgers. Today I decided to sample his other beef emporium, Blue Smoke. This mouthwatering St.Louis natives BBQ joint features signature ??cue? favorites such as ribs, beef, fowl, southern vegetable sides, mac and cheese and home-style desserts and pies. Their Blue Smoke burgers are on the list as a must try on many restaurant critics lips and today was my privilege to give Chef Kenny Callaghan and the genius restaurateur Danny Meyer??s creation a shot to see what the boys have learnt.

As I followed the manager to my table, I admired the factory/abattoir chic decor, surrounded by red-hot oversized booths, steel and concrete fixings and large close-up photos of pickles, potato, and various other historic nostalgia. The bar was a giant man perch, perfect for sampling the many home brews, while watching sports and gnawing on pork and beef treats. My table was in the back of a lively dining room in which the sound of jazz, jovial conversation and rib bones clanking in galvanized tins provided as makeshift BBQ spittoons filled the room. I ordered my Blue Smoke burger medium with good old American cheddar cheese and maple-cured bacon. The patty was a ground sirloin and arrived on a freshly toasted homemade brioche bun. After fixing an annoying wobbly table with a stack of coasters, my waiter proceeded to execute the story of the creation of my anticipated beef pleasure. He explained that my burger would be seasoned and char grilled with a secret mix of herbs neatly packaged and labeled ??Magic Dust?. Although the name scarily reminded me of the other less legal kind of dust, I was confident that I was safe and secure with his description! After a short while my burger arrived with a mountainous portion of crispy French Fries and fresh lettuce and tomato. The taste of the burger was flavorful but, unfortunately was overcooked and left a dry aftertaste following a few bites. The bun was an excellent complement to the burger with its firmness and texture.

Despite all the state of the art high-tech barbeque grills, smokers and other pit masters essentials that are present in kitchen, the Blue Smoke burger was sadly disappointing. Hopefully Mr. Meyer and Chef Callaghan have targeted their talent here more toward their BBQ, because their burger skills were lacking this day. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the extensive menu and live jazz music which makes Blue Smoke a fun and entertaining pig-out spot. Try the ribs, brisket and home-style desserts and maybe leave the burgers for some of Mr. Meyers other restaurants!

What has happened? This place was once the BBQ restaurant to be. Just went there and seriously had one of the worst meal I had in years. Ordered babyback ribs, beans, mac' cheese, and creamed spinach. The ribs has the texture and look of dessicated corn beef and I had to spit out a lot of the meat licking that saltlick. Any reheated frozen ribs would taste so much better. And I'm not exaggerating. The side dishes are equally awful. The beans are unsurpassably pedestrian. The mac' cheese is a pile of goo of condensed butter I felt I just gulp down a bottle of tacky glue. The creamed spinach has astronomical sodium level. I walked out of the place very bewildered, and as I walked away I was infuriated by extremely low quality of the food. Any deli counter can whip up a more tasty combination. This place is hopeless if they keep serving this kind of food. I will never go back.

Entering this must stop-over for most native New Yorkers, you would think you were going to sit in a familiar bar. Instead, your lead to a sprawling rear area, in-where people are laughing, eating and enjoying this spectacular experience. I began my meal will an appetizer of Fat Back with a peanut butter & jelly vinaigrette. I know, but it was one of the most amazing app I have ever tasted and I'm quite a table hopper in this town.

Then, me and my best friend had an assortment of ribs that were to much to finish and overwhelming in fantastic taste. Not only was a doggy bag prepared, we added ribs and dessert for the road.

If you haven't dined here, do it now!!! I don't care what anyone tells you, find out why the place stays packed, the location is convenient and the experience haunts you to return. If at all possible, bring an inflatable bed to sleep it off before leaving, they will feed you into a coma.

If your looking for authentic Bar-b-que in New York then head to Blue Smoke. Offering many styles of bar-bque, including, Memphis,Texas, St. Louis and North Carolina there is almost too many good things here. They also have a great bar and are located right above a great jazz club!!!

I choose this restaurant because I wanted to try a new place and what better time to see what NYC has to offer than Restaurant Week 2009. So I was a little nervous when I saw a packed bar and restaurant but graciously planned ahead by making a reservation. Reservations are recommended so that the tension of waiting is void. Once seated I was blown away by the food and the service. I had the BBQ spare ribs with collard greens and the ribs fell right off the bone. The drinks were pretty good and the staff was friendly. I will def go back with a crowd and have some more of that homegorwn sauce. Check it out for yourself and enjoy!

This place was awesome. We ordered the chipotle wings, spicy cheese fries and fried calamari. Everything was so good. The restaurant decor is really cool as well - wide open space with a city-meets-southern BBQ Pit kind of feel.

Huge fan of Shake Shack, and Danny Meyer is equally as impressive here. No drawbacks - this place is a ust go.

I just came back from a $400+ client dinner. When the bill came, which was already over the top, I noticed there were ITEMIZED olive charges. The restaurant charged us for olives that were in the martinis. I will NEVER go back. I am a New Yorker, and consider myself pretty forgiving, but to have "olive" charges on the bill for all of the martinis is ridiculous and appalling, and I would not recommend Blue Smoke. In addition, I told the waitress that this was unheard of, and she still did not remove the olive charges from the bill. Too many great restaurants in NYC that serve great food and service, to ever go back.

We went to Blue Smoke during restaurant week in the hopes of having a good and filling lunch. It was plain and simply bad- both food and service. We arrived just before 3pm to be told that the lunch menu was not available, only the Dinner menu. Our waiter was on his first day so he was not completely to blame but as I surveyed the restaurant, which was only half full, I noticed that sevaral tables were getting impatient waiting for their food. I understood this only too well as it took 50 minutes for our order to arrive at our table. The waiters did not seem to be in a rush on this particular Saturday, they were more busy chatting to each other than serving their customers.
When our food finally arrived it was dissapointing. I had orderred the Texas Salt and Pepper Beef Ribs. Out came a plate of bones with a little meat on them. Well to be fair, 1 of the 4 ribs did have some meat of it, the other 3 seemed to have been scraped of most of the meat before they arrived at our table. My companions were equally dissapointed. They had 2 Blue smoke Burgers and a Pulled Pork Sandwich. All the vegetables that came with our food were either cold or luke warm. The mashed potatos were watery and the salad partially wilted. To serve up this bad meal took 50 minutes and cost us over $150 (including 2 beers and 2 bloody mary's in total)
In short, bad service, lousy food and a complete rip-off. This is not worth a visit.

I've tried quite a few BBQ joints in NY, and until I ate at Blue Smoke I'd never has a bad meal. However, that streak ended tonight as soon as the first bite of my pulled pork open face sandwich reached my lips. I was immediately horrified that the meat was extremely, overwhelmingly salty. Not salty the way pulled pork should be -- smoky, moist, BBQ-y with a bit of a salty taste. This pork was nothing but salt. Horrendous.

I reached for the BBQ sauce, hoping to mask the flavor with a few generous shakes of sauce. Again, disappointment. The sauce was watery, thin, and so mildly flavored it could barely qualify as BBQ.

Ok then. I switched tactics and sampled my side dish of baked beans. Mistake. They tasted like they were mixed in tomato sauce with green peppers stirred in. Ugh.

Needless to say, i was really unhappy with my meal.

My friend was happily eating his ribs and mac and cheese and loving every bite. I sampled the mac --it was pretty good.

On the plus side, the service was good, and the setting was very pleasant and comfy. But it all comes down to the food and the bottom line is, Blue Smoke did NOT fit the bill.

Blue Smoke is by definition a restaurant but that category does not do it justice as it is light years apart from any other place that calls itself a BBQ place. I think Smokehouse is a better definition but regardless of what you call it you will find some damn fine eating there. My personal favorite is the Texas Salt n Pepper ribs which is amazing and don't worry no sort of honey/molasses BBQ sauce is slathered over your food it's all good cooking.

Ate here for a early dinner. Ordered 2 Mojito's to drink, potato chips and blue cheese dip as an app. The drinks came in a surprisingly small glass and were not very good, the only flavor besides rum in it was a very bitter taste and the drinks were very pricey. The chips and dip were very good with a spicy kick added by the BBQ 'magic dust' and the dip was very creamy with a nice tang of blue cheese.

For entrees I order a half-rack of the Texas salt and pepper ribs and my wife ordered the sampler platter (ribs, pulled pork, chicken and sausage) and we got coleslaw, mac and cheese and fries as sides. My ribs were flavorful and smokey but very dry, it's likely we got the tail end of the lunch service ribs (it was a very early dinner). My wife reported everything she had was good but had the same opinion on her ribs that i had. I only got a taste of the sausage which was very spicy. HTe pulled pork did come out already sauced which she did not mind but annoys me to no end.

The coleslaw was very good (a vinegar based slaw not milky like most places) and the mac and cheese was very creamy (and the blisters of burnt cheese were really good). The fries were average and pretty blah.

Overall the food was very good but at these prices that's to be expected and the slight mistakes become magnified. The bad (and horridly overpriced) drinks and the dry ribs take away from the overall meal. If it hadn't been for those missteps (or better prices) this could have easily gotten 4 or 5 stars from me.

We went there in May for our honeymoon, the chips and blue cheese dressing were good and my husband loved the sweet potato fries, the cole slaw was okay but not creamy. All in all it was good barbecue and we would go back again, the staff was very good.

We tried Blue Smoke last night. For a Wednesday night it was packed. We started with orange margaritas. They were good. They went a little overboard with the salt and it was a little too sweet for me and it was also a very small drink. But, nonetheless, very refreshing.
We had the BBQ potato chips and blue cheese dip. This was really awesome! The dip is addicting and even though the BBQ potato chips look pretty standard, the taste is outstanding.
Next we got the rib sampler (for one) and the fried chicken. The fried chicken was really good. All white meat and not greasy at all. But, since the ribs were soooo GOOOD, we ended up fighting over the ribs. Next time, we would probably get the rib sampler for two. The kansas city and memphis ribs are really good. The salt and pepper ribs are really good too, but were a little dry for my taste.
I would highly recommend coming here!

We were there on a busy Friday night and had a good time. The place is a bit loud, but overall good. We started with the homemade potato chips with the warm blue cheese dip, which was real nice. The dip was pretty addicting. We also had the peel and eat shrimp, which I was surprised was a hot dish. ( heat-hot) If it said it on the menu, I missed it.
We both had the rib sampler platter which we ended up having packed up to take home we had so much and were saving room for dessert. I highly recommend the macaroni and cheese, it was delish. Best thing of the evening. Neither of us particularly cared for the cole slaw.
Dessert was the chocolate layer cake and banana cream pie. I had prearranged with the hostess that it was my husbands birthday, so they wrote his name in chocolate on the plate and put a candle in his cake. Unfortunately I was a solo in singing as a food runner dropped it off and immediately left. The banana cream pie was a little too much on what tasted like artificial banana flavor in the pie filling, but the walnuts on top were a nice addition.

Pros: The Macaroni and cheese - yummy!!

Cons: Too loud!

Went on a saturday night, was told the wait would be an hour and a half and were seated in less than an hour.Good drinks, good beers on tap.Staff is young and the place seems really touristy. The food was horrible.I'm not big into barbeque, but I've been to R.U.B. and Pearsons in Queens and enjoyed it.I had the pulled pork which had no taste except where it was covered by some sort of sauce on a stale piece of garbage whitebread. The wings sucked! They were doused in barbeque sauce, and had very little meat on them. This slop repeated on my stomach all night long.In all fairness the desserts were pretty good.If it weren't for the dessert, this would probably be one of the worst meals i have ever had.

I've eaten here before, and I'll admit the food is very good. But now they treat
their customers like crap. The manager even called me 'a liar' when I
complained the hostess had promised to sit us whithin 60 minutes but after
120 she was not able to produce a table. They literally refused to serve
us and kicked us out of the place after complaining!! This was an informal
business dinner for foreign customers, so you can imagine the
embarrassment. Bottom line, go somewhere else -- unless you like to be insulted!

I've been there twice and both times I had tasty food, great drinks and excellent service. Once was for a client dinner and the other was when my brother was in town and the restaurant caters to both settings. They have a funky menu that leads you to 'try something new' and everything I tried was good... I even bought a T-shirt from them :)

I have been there countless times (expect at least an hour wait if you come between 7:15-9:45 pm).

I like to start with the BBQ potato chips, they come out very quickly and taste really good, it helps make your wait shorter....

I have yet to have a burger in the city that was better than blue smoke, the fries are solid every time, and with the help of their "magic dust", the burger is perfect.

As for the ribs, I'm not really into pork, but the salt and pepper beef ribs are very very good, the only problem is they have very little meat on them, for their price.

A wonderful New York barbecue joint, stylish atmosphere, an upscale taste to BBQ. The Mac n? Cheese is a must, along with the ribs and chicken. Great place to eat with friends and have a good time!

I've been to Blue Smoke twice. Once before moving to NYC a couple years ago and once after moving here. The food was consistent and delicious. Sucked that I couldn't substitute cornbread for coleslaw with my pulled pork sandwich but oh well. Prices were sorta steep since this definitely isn't fine dining, but it was in line w/ NY restaurants. Both times I ate here was for lunch and I ate at the bar. First time I had really nice service. Second time, the bartender was busy complaining about his co-workers to a manager the whole time. I really didn't want to overhear this negativity while eating. This could happen anywhere, and yeah sucky co-workers and the service industry in general can eat you alive but keep it to yourself in front of customers man!

Went to Blue Smoke with 4 adult and 1 child. The decor is simple, yet comfortable. Spacious surroundings even when there are lots of people in the restaurant. We sat in a very comfortable booth, with plenty of room for all of us. They have toys for kids to play with while we waited for food. The rest of our dinner experience was not as good. The waiter keep getting our orders wrong. We had the sampler and the beef ribs are more like beef jerky. There is hardly any meat on it and it was really tough. The rest of the meat was not as tough, but they were completely tasteless, you have to drown it in BBQ sauce to be able to eat it. We have been to some top notched BBQ places in Memphis, and the ribs at Blue Smoke is just garbage. Will definitely not go back again.

somehow ended up going there TWiCE this week, lol. Tuesday with a girlfriend, friday with my fiancee. REally liked it. one thing I got to say :THE SERVICE WAS FABUOLOUS . Fast and everyone seemed to have a very pleasant attitude ,it was nice to see waiters in a such honest good mood.Very attentive.I had a rib sampler ,my friend doesnt eat pork so she had the beef ribs and liked it a lot.out of the rib sampler i am more into juicy ribs so I liked the Kansas ones the BEST!!! OH and the salad (mixed greens with feta)they some how managed to distibute the dressing all over frisee and all i know you need to have one each its good.Mac and cheese had the burnt marks on it .it was still bubbling.GOne in 60 seconds. If yoiu are really hungry have a full order for yourself its just enough. The beer is good tooo but I recomend having a shot of tequila patron silver right before getting a pitcher.Anyway Friday was obviously ridiculously packed (waited for 1 or so by the bar, whatever. The waitress was a sweethart, although I was pretty hammered by the time we got seated ,it was actually pretty romantic (booth) thats what i asked them at the door to do .Anyway we had the restaurant week $35 setup.Maryland crab salad was blah coz i was drunk but im sure its good. The ribs were the bomb!! three things though: beans were undercooked, the to go order got messed up and I was missing my cole slaw(yam ,not creamy but crunchy and smothered with a sesami vinegret,i love cole slaw I was eating theirs the next morning before work soooooooooo hungover) Cole slaw is a must. And they completely forgot my desert( drunk so didnt care) and I am sure they will make it up to me some other time.Defianetely go there ,it rocks and its my new spot. TOP SERVICE ,VERY FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE, the guy by the door (blonde guy) was really nice when my man asked him to change the channel. LOVED it and i am defianetely coming back and bringing more people. ENJOY!!!

Blue Smoke is one of those places where you can bring your parents or a first date for safe BBQ. The food and drink is always good and the atomosphere is comfortable, but as a "real" BBQ joint, its nothing to write home to Kansas or Texas about.

I love this place. Granted, I was born in New York and the closest I've been to "real Texas BBQ" was a 30 minute layover in Dallas, but that does not detract from the gastronomical decadence I experience at Blue Smoke. The atmosphere is fun, the food is so tasty, and the Jazz downstairs can be pretty good, too, sometimes. Great place for friends and the more relaxed clients alike. All the meats are about to fall off their bones, the sandwiches are dripping good, the hush puppies are... interesting, and BBQ chips with blue cheese dip? So good.

I was with a group of 40 which means we usually get mediocre service and cool food. We had great service and great food. They have an amazing smoky blue cheese martini. The chicken wings and sliders were terrific appetizers. The beef ribs were some of the best but the babyback ribs are better than anything I've had in Memphis or Kansas City. The smoke is genuine and not bottled. You get a good whiff of it as you walk into the restaurant. BBQ fans, NYC has the genuine article.

I hesitate to write such a glowing review b/c I fear the restaurant will become too popular. I went to dinner there this past Saturday night and it was fabulous. I have no idea what all of these bad reviews are about. I don't eat pork, so my options were limited. The beef ribs are so flavorful, the sweet potato fries are fresh and tender. My mother had the fried chicken and she thought it was the best she's tasted below 110th street. We both enjoyed the apple crisp, as well as the fried pear & cranberry pie. All of the food we tasted was not over powered or over-seasoned. All in all I have to add it to my guilty pleasures list!

probably the best buffalo wings i have ever had; meaty, nice and spicy but not too tangy. throw in the deviled eggs and im good. oh and the baked beans are tasty.

the ribs are ok and the mac and cheese is weak.

also avoid sitting at the bar to eat, the service is not as attentive.

I love BBQ and, in my opinion, it takes a lot to screw it up. A fan of Virgils, I wanted to try something new and heard good things about Blue Smoke. Unfortunately, I was disappointed from the start.

First the service: I am not sure what the hostess or waiter expects but people eating BBQ are probobly not looking for an "exclusive" night out so they would fare well to drop the whole "VIP" facade. No matter how pricy or well-known the restaurant, when it has neon signs and serves Mac-N-Cheese there's a cap on how much attitude you can expect guests to handle.

Food: I found the Mac-N-Cheese bland, the hush puppies overcooked and served with something that tasted like jam and the ribs were fatty. The Brisket was cold and their fries came with something that resembled cheese whiz. My friends and I ordered a plethora of food and created our own little "Tasting menu" only to feel like it was all sub-par and empty calories. No fun for a splurge.

Value: Let's not kid ourselves, it's all overpriced in NYC but this place doesn't even attempt to give you a decent value for your Washingtons ;)

For better BBQ, go to Virgils or make your own. Blue Smoke is just not worth it.

I work near Blue Smoke and have been there multiple times for both lunch and dinner. I recommend the pulled pork, mac n cheese, deviled eggs, sausage sampler, hush puppies with jalapeno marmalade-- pretty much everything I've eaten there has been delicious. As with all of Danny Meyer's restaurants, the service is very friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed and easygoing.

I've been in the restaurant industry, management and kitchen, for close to a decade so I understand when someone's trying to make a reservation for over 10 people, some restaurants get a little greedy, and others get a lazy for multiple duplicate orders and go "Family Style". But this is wrong. I called the main reservation desk to try to get a reservation for a Sunday night (slow dinner night) for 12. He immediately said, "For reservations over 10, you would have to speak with our events planner." I said, "Basically, it's very casual and we're all just having entrees." He said, "No matter; for groups over 10, you'd have to speak with the events planner, who's gone for the day. Can I send you to her voicemail?" I sensed something was unusual in the works, so I said, "There's going to be 10 adults and 2 children...." hoping that more info would help. The reservation taker then adopted a slighty annoyed tone and said, "That's STILL 12 people, ma'am," and transferred me to the events planner's voicemail (It was around 5PM). What he should have told me but didn't (either restaurant policy/neglect) was that Blue Smoke has this policy that for groups of 10 or more, the only dining option is "Family Style", i.e. big portions of dishes passed around, preordered by the host., at around $45/head. This is not uncommon in restaurants to make extra bucks and save labor, and also protect themselves from large groups of people sharing 3 entree's.. what angers me is that this was not told to me staright out at the reservation desk. I had to leave a message with the events person, wait for her to call me back, then tell me. It was a waste of her time and mine- I could not go ahead with the reservation with children charged $45/head, and not knowing which meats my people would like. Her time was wasted as well, calling me and finding out that I did not know about the Family Style policy, and did not want it.

My wife, six friends, and I went to Blue Smoke last night for Restaurant Week and I was pleasantly surprised by several things. 1st, contrary to a lot of the postings, we found the service quite good. Unlike many places, our party was seated as we arrived rather than made to wait for all of us. Each of us was given a drink while waiting for the rest of the party, rather than having to wait for all to order. Our server was very attentive and friendly. She answered all of our questions about the menu and was always engaging. If she wasn't checking on us personally, various other waitstaff checked on us and made sure our drinks were refreshed. 2nd, the food was quite good. No, it didn't arrive quickly and it's not the best BBQ I've EVER had, but you can't compare it to the South or Texas or any of those other places. You have to take it for what it's worth because it is some of the best ribs the City has to offer. I know b/c I've eaten at just about all of the BBQ "joints" in the City (5 Boros). At least there is a variety of ribs rather than only one choice like most BBQ joints. If you can't stomach that- simply don't go. 3rd, although I personally didn't order from the RW offerings (I got the rib sampler), most of the table did. The portions Blue Smoke gave for RW were very generous - The biggest portions I've ever seen in a RW, and actually bigger than the regular portions of many restaurants. They gave 4 courses rather than the standard 3. Everything on the menu is easily shared and you can save quite a bit of money if you do- even side dishes are easily shared among several people. Considering the prices in other restaurants, Blue Smoke is about average with dinner and drinks being about $50.00 per person (but if you share, it's not so much). The place is part touristy, part scene, but, remember, this is New York City. By definition, the entire City can be described that way. I would definitely go back.

The atmosphere at Blue Smoke is casual and friendly, yet trendy enough to make a fun night. Our waitress was very nice and helpful and went out of her way to make our dinner enjoyable. For an appetizer I ordered the deviled eggs....they were to die for! Creamy with a special spice that I just can't place. Next up were the ribs. A little fatty, but the flavor completely made up for it. Amazing sauce. For dessert I ordered the sticky toffee pudding with creme fraiche, which turned out to be an incredible end to a wonderful meal. The key lime pie is also delicious. Better than my own which is saying a lot!

We had spare ribs for saturday lunch here, we had fun, the service couldve been a little more attentive, but then it was lunch time, so we didnt want to be difficult. We had their dessert sampler...........The Brownie was to DIE FOR.. I have no words to express how delicious it was. I am actually thinking of ordering it for my husbands birthday, as they also cater. Cant wait to have it again.

We had spare ribs for saturday lunch here, we had fun, the service couldve been a little more attentive, but then it was lunch time, so we didnt want to be difficult. We had their dessert sampler...........The Brownie was to DIE FOR.. I have no words to express how delicious it was. We just ate here this past Friday night, we were a party of four. Although the food is very good, the service was pretty awful. Granted, they were very busy, however, I used to work in the restaurant industry and I truly feel that the service in a restaurant sets the tone. For example, I was unable to truly enjoy our night out with friends because I was preoccupied with the fact that we waited over half an hour for one drink...and then, another half an hour for our appetizers. The table next to us arrived a solid 20-30 minutes after us and received everything before we did...not sure why. In addition, when we complained about the service, we then received some attitude from the wait staff. This made my husband uncomfortable which I find unacceptable when we are paying for a dinner. This restaurant is not cheap, therefore, good service should come as part of the package. I would not eat here again because of the poor service as there are other very good BBQ places in NYC.

Pros: decent BBQ but not the best i've ever had

Cons: awful service

The ribs are great tasting, though huge portions. The brisket sandwich and shrimp platter are at least more manageable fr an average sized meal. Great beer selection. Best key lime pie east of the Mississippi!!!

My boys and I went to Blue Smoke one night last month and was impressed by its unpretentious-ness. The decor and the scene were raw and warm, the food was hearty and flavorful, it was generously propotioned, unlike some other place serving tiny amounts of food. The service was prompt, too. My friends loved the beers. The only drawback was when I ordered a combination plate of 3 different barbecues, our waiter brought the food over without specifying the names of the 3 kinds of barbecue sitting on the plate; so when I almost finished one kind and wanted to know the name so I could order next time, it was too late for my waiter to tell from the leftover bones. Now I only think about the mysterious kind of barbecue whose name is unknown to me.

I have been to this place many times before writing this review, and for whatever reason have failed to write about my great dinning experiences there. My last visit to Blue Smoke was last week with a bunch boys from work. We were seated promptly after arriving around 6pm without a reservation by a friendly and attentive hostess. Before going into the food, the decor is simple yet homey and Southern feeling. Classic wood floors and tables, high ceilings, and a huge bar with great beer and specialty liquor selection from around the world. The food is absolutely great!! The different styles of ribs offered is great for people who have different likings. Slow cooked, tender, juicy, and not full of fake liquid smoke-these ribs are the real deal. The pulled pork along with the chicken where full of flavor and not dried out at all. The sides offered where both original and inventive. The hot BBQ chips w/ blue cheese dip is amazing, and the Mac n' cheese is thick, creamy, and unbelievably cheesy!! Another great dish was the sausage sampler for an appetizer with the stone ground mustard. The price of Blue Smoke was not expensive but not cheap-definitely worth the price. The service was on point and up to speed-we never felt rushed or uncomfortable by the waiter's presence. The noise can be a little loud when dinning during prime time dinner hours-this place does do a lot of business and is usually packed with people at the bar and people waiting for a table. They only reserve half the dinning room and leave the other half available for walk-ins, so if you go early enough-you won't need a reservation!! Unfortunately, I have never had enough room for desert when dining at Blue Smoke, but I am sure it is up there with the rest of their food. Blue Smoke is a must if you are ever in New York City!

Having been to Nashville to sample real BBQ and then after eating at RUB and the Daisy May's lunch stand, I think Blue Smoke is a pretty good place. We started with Iced Tea, and the cool thing here is that they give you a small pitcher of simple syrup instead of sugar to sweeten the tea. We shared a plate of chicken wings and while the sauce was good, I prefer my wings fried more for a crispier texture so that I don't taste any rubberiness of the skin. We decided to share a sampler plate, hush puppies and mac-n-cheese. The mac-n-cheese is unbelievable - creamy, decandent and delicious. The hush puppies are good - crispy outside and fluffy inside and the jalepeno jam is a nice accompaniment. The funny things is that the best hush puppies Ive ever had are from a BBQ place inside Moeghan Sun up in Conn. The sampler came with chicken, sausage, pulled pork and ribs. The pulled pork was moist and tasty. The ribs were meaty and full of juicy flavor. They only give one piece of sausage but it is spicy and tasty. The chicken wasn't that great. It was kind of bland and forgetable. For dessert we ordered a vanilla milkshake, apple crisp and sticky toffee pudding. The kitchen was cool and split the shake into 2 glasses for us. It was very good. The apple crisp was good and met my expectations. The toffee pudding stole the show. It was more like a bundt cake with a puddingish inside - it was delicious. Overall, for all of this food, the bill was only $75 and the staff was extremely friendly and accomodating.
