At this very moment Dr. Lowenstein is giving compassionate, hands-on care, night and day, to my 14 year old Chihuahua rescue Miss Poco who has end stage congestive heart failure. We face some difficult choices but I know that with Dr. Lowenstein, we will make the right decisions enabling Miss Poco to have a quality of life that would not be possible without his spot-on medical diagnoses and considerate care. Did I mention that Miss Poco absolutely adores him? We are truly blessed to have found a vet whose commitment to his profession and to his furry patients and human companions is extraordinary.
Dr. Bruce is the best vet I have found in my 16 years of living in New York City. He has been our Vet for the last 4 years. He is very caring and concerned about my cats. He is the only Vet to properly diagnose my cat's cellebar dysplasia. Which finally answers many questions to previous and ongoing problems he's had. He is excellent at explaining all of your options without loosing his patience. This is a great quality since it is confusing and scary to make decisions with our pets health. He is also pays close attention to your budget and explaining what would be your best option. With Dr. Bruce, I feel that "my guys, bird & buzz" get excellent care at a more than fair cost.
Its great to have a the vet visit our home -- the taxi rides to the vet were always so stressful! I feel that we save time and money and get better care in our home environment.
Dr. Bruce is so nice to Bird & Buzz!!!!
I have lived in New York City for two years now and have worked in the animal retail industry for over nine years. I have dealt with multiple animal hospitals and veterinary clinics but when it comes to the care of my personal animals, the only one I turn to is Dr. Bruce Lowenstein. He brings care and compassion back to the world of Veterinary science.
Quite recently, when my cat Elliott has been having coughing/sneezing attacks that I feared put him in the asthmatic category. He needed blood work done and I contemplated the best way to get him to the vet. After discovering that Dr. Lowenstein does house calls, I decided to make an appointment for my cat; which relieved my concern about bringing Elliott into the stress induced environment that is the city. It was the smartest move I could??ve done! He arrived at my home promptly and explained the procedure to me while giving him and my cat time to grow acquainted. Dr. Bruce was courteous and efficient in the interaction with Elliott and patient and understanding with my qualms. The procedure lasted a whole of fifteen minutes. I believe I was more stressed out about the whole ordeal than my cat was.
Dr. Bruce called me the very next day with the results of Elliott??s blood work and we talked about x-rays being the next point of action to confirm that Elliott indeed had asthma. I have never gotten results this fast before from any doctor, neither for myself or any of my animals.
And just this past Monday, Elliott had very bad asthma attacks which lead to us rushing to the Emergency hospital for immediate treatment. Dr. Bruce was my first call that morning, and after explaining the situation, he called the Medical Center in advance to have them on standby for Elliott??s arrival. Right when we arrived, Elliott was taken care of immediately. The hospital staff was amazing. After multiple tests, x-rays, and a few medicine injections, asthma was diagnosed and I was able to take Elliott home.
I am able to call Dr. Bruce, any day, anytime, with any question and receive a prompt response. No question is over looked and he takes time to explain every aspect of the transaction until both parties are settled and the best decisive action can be made.
If you are looking for a veterinarian that dedicated; is kindhearted, easy to talk to, and a true animal lover, definitely give him a call.
I cannot thank Dr. Bruce enough for bringing the sanity and compassion back to veterinary care for pets and owners alike. I heard about his house call appointments through a good friend of mine (Hogan's mom!). She referred me when I told her I was nervous to take my elderly gent, Reggie, a large domestic short hair cat, out to the vet. He gets so nervous in the street with the noise! I cannot stand to stress him out so much, and that is before the doctor's office.
When I called Dr. Bruce, my cat was critical, he needed a kitty ER stat and Dr. Bruce calmly explained how urgent it was. He had not even met us yet! Once Reggie was home and recovering Dr. Bruce came and checked on him and saved his life yet again. I was reticent to go down a path I had with another elderly cat, one where vet after vet urged me to force care on an animal that should have been put down at an earlier time. I did not want to make that same mistake. Dr. Bruce understood my fears, but also spent the TIME to discuss with me how I could find out if this was something I could humanely treat or if I needed to make a decision about Reggie's future. Once reassured that we were making the best possible step we forged ahead and found Reggie had a problem which could be controlled with meds and he would be a happy, healthy cat for a while to come. I nearly gave up on my cat! Dr. Bruce sensibly and rationally addressed my concerns and fears while getting Reggie what he needed.
Reggie is now thriving! We just had a check up this week and we did not even have to adjust the meds. Reggie appreciates not being dragged out into the city streets, I certainly appreciate not dragging him out and making him suffer needlessly. Dr. Bruce has the most reasonable veterinary rates I have encountered in 25 years of using various vets around the city. He always calls me to check in and always returns my calls in an admirably and incredibly short time.
Yes... there is more. Receiving care from Dr. Bruce is not about just getting a good vet and good service. Dr. Bruce clearly loves what he is doing. It is a vocation, not a job. He just adores these animals and he loves to see them improve under his aegis. Reggie can tell, too. He is much calmer with Dr. Bruce than with any previous vet. The reason... Reggie knows there is sincerity and devotion in this man. Cats can tell! And so can humans. So, THANK YOU Dr. Bruce, for EVERYTHING
Hi my name is Hogan I am a three year old Maltese and my mommy is Leslie L. Ever since I was a puppy (which I kinda still am) Dr Bruce has been coming to my apartment at battery park city. First he just gave me shots n stuff but then I had an emergency tooth abcess and mommy didnt know what to do.Dr Bruce came down first thing in the morning, referred me to the correct emergency facility, and continued to follow up until i was ALL BETTER. He didnt even charge me for every little minute he put in, like all the phone calls to see if I was okay. Plus he always carries treats. I rate him one billion stars for his compassion, follow up, diagnostic skillsnd personality. Did I mention that I bite?
Given that I have bred and raised show dogs, and my husband and I are now involved in animal rescue, we have worked with many NYC vets in many medical specialties, for everything from fertility issues to emergency care situations. We have never worked with anyone as competent, caring and resourceful as Dr. Bruce Lowenstein. By now, Dr. Lowenstein has treated 4 champions we have shared our home with at various times over a period of 8 years and we are very fortunate that he is in our lives.
My husband and I were initially referred to Dr. Lowenstein after our 14-year-old dog had a seizure and was subsequently mishandled by a leading Upper East Side veterinary hospital, causing severe cervical spine complications. We took our dog to yet another well-known UES vet hospital but their treatment failed, as well. Our dog was in such severe pain that he couldn't even lift his head to drink water. We could only hope to find someone to deliver him from pain as soon as possible. We certainly didn't want to move him. The second UES vet hospital referred us to Dr. Bruce Lowenstein who they said is an excellent emergency medicine specialist who makes house calls 24/7. Excellent he was. On short notice, Dr. Lowenstein came to our apartment. When he saw our dog suffering, he immediately went in to emergency mode, showing my husband, a physician, where to deliver steroid injections and showing me how to hydrate the dog gently from a syringe. Within about 20 minutes our dog was drinking water. He lived another two years in good health under the medical supervision of Dr. Lowenstein.
Dr. Lowenstein is also a superb diagnostician. He suspected that our second champion had Cushing's Disease even though she tested negative for it. Years later, it turned out that he was right. He also refers us to the best specialists around and, as we learn over and over, Dr. Lowenstein is himself well respected in the veterinary community. He actively consults with all referring vets, diligently providing them with medical history and records, and following up with them. He is also considerate of cost in conducting and recommending testing and treatment.
When the time came that even the best medical care could not spare either of our first two beloved dogs, Dr. Lowenstein delivered them in the comfort of our home with caring, grace and kindness. We will always be grateful for Dr. Lowenstein.
Our two miniature Yorkies have been patients of Dr. Bruce Lowenstein since they were born (one, a male Toy, is 3 1/2 years old; the other, a female Teacup, is 1 1/2 years old. Dr. Bruce (as we call him, and as our Yorkies know him) is far and away the greatest vet we have ever known. First, he is highly knowledgeable in his field; second, he is extraordinarily competent and caring; third, because he makes house calls; and fourth, he has never failed to squeeze in an emergency visit to our home when one of the puppies became ill suddenly.
Dr. Bruce is warm, friendly and outgoing, and always explains exactly what caused any illness and how to care for our pets. He coordinates our contact with a pet pharmacy, fills out our pet insurance forms and, as we wish any MD or vet would do, he calls to follow up and check how our sick dog is faring. Dr. Bruce directed us to the best animal hospitals when we were ready to spay/neuter our pets and personally attended the surgery. He keeps track of when they need vaccinations and vaccination booster shots.
In sum, you will have a terrific experience with Dr. Bruce Lowenstein as your vet. He has kept our pets healthy through thick and thin. We are fortunate to have him in our corner.
I usually don't write reviews, but I was and am so impressed with Dr. Lowenstein, that I think others should know what a great doctor he is. Mittens is a 10 yr old cat that seemed to be gaining weight very quickly. I called Dr. Lowenstein and he came to Brooklyn that afternoon. Dr. Lowenstein told me that Mittens was in heart failure. She was critical and needed to go in to the hospital or she would pass away. Knowing that I was not in the financial position to take her to the hospital, my other choice would be to help her pass peacefully. He then explained that we might be able to help her at home and I agreed as he went into critical care emergency mode. Dr Lowenstein made one call and had an echo (sonogram) done within 90 minutes at my apartment. Once it was confirmed that she was in heart failure, he was so impressive, removing the fluid from her chest and abdomen and allowing her to breath easily again. He spent 6 hours working to save Mittens life. I have never met another doctor who would even think to spend that kind of time to save my cat and he did! 4 months later and Mittens is now sitting on my lap as I write this review. I have several cats and many stories I can write about Dr. Lowenstein. He has amazed me again and again. I have a 20 yr old cat who had a chronic sinus infection that I was told by other vets would never go away. SURPRISE! Dr. Lowenstein found a medication that completely resolved the issue.... If you love your pet, call Dr. Lowenstein; he truly is special.
Dr. Bruce has not only changed my cat??s life but mine as well. Olivia was very ill and after navigating the circuit of high end veterinary practices in Manhattan not only did she not appear to be getting better but her condition was worsening. I fortunately found Dr. Lowenstein through a very intelligent pet owner/neighbor and called him immediately. He was patient and personable on the phone as I explained Olivia??s fragile condition. I began the process of switching her records over to him as soon as possible.
At first I couldn??t believe that a veterinarian would make a house call in this day and age but that is just one aspect that makes Dr. Bruce??s practice so wonderful. The process of placing a NYC house cat who is not well into a carrier and out onto the noisy streets of the city is traumatic for both cat and owner. Thanks to Dr. Bruce neither Olivia nor I will ever have to go through that process again!
Congenial Dr. Bruce showed up as soon as possible to help my Livvy. He has a way of speaking to Olivia that puts her at ease. Before she was terrified of strangers but now even after he examines her, draws blood, weighs her and/or does the other necessary medical things that cats and humans dislike having done, Livvy walks right up to him as if he were an old friend rather than a doctor. Immediately, Dr. Bruce was able to make a complete and accurate diagnosis, removing the unnecessary medicines Olivia was on and providing her with exactly what she needed. She is happy, calm and doing much healthier thanks to Dr. Bruce.
Dr. Bruce is a true gem, a doctor who obviously treats the pet for the pet??s sake, not to line his pockets with cash. His pricing is very reasonable, an unexpected yet welcome plus. In fact I am sure that the cost of treating my cat is less due to his pricing and the savings from eliminating cab fare to and from the vet I had previously been using. Dr. Bruce is available 24/7, something I wish all doctors would do! And he spends time with me and my pet, more time than any ??traditional office vet?? ever has. He is methodical in examining Livvy all while talking her sweetly through the process (as if she understands, and maybe she does?), and then explaining to me, in detail what is going on, how she??s doing, what needs to be done and when I will receive test results. He promptly returns calls, answers questions and is absolutely trustworthy; everything I could ask for in the physician responsible for my beloved pet??s health. I seriously doubt Olivia would be alive today if not for Dr. Bruce and his amazing ability to diagnose and treat her rather complicated condition with accuracy and compassion.
Thanks Dr. Bruce Lowenstein for making my cat and me happy!
